  1. At the same time I swapped the heavy stock crank pulley for a Stillen Lightweight crank pulley [#400338-01] made from CNC machined Billet 6061 aluminum and 304 S/S sleeves. Weight 600 g vs stock 2.14 kg. The reduced inertia recovers some otherwise lost HP.

An idle thought — Does the VQ37 engine have a harmonic damper? I am vaguely aware that some lighter/competition pulleys (generally) omit this, meaning that there is an increased risk of crankshaft failure. (Google: pros and cons of lightweight crank pulley). I wonder if this is a consideration on our engines? Is this whole issue just hearsay that we shouldn't worry about?

  2. Hello chaps,

I run a Quaife QDF10L on my 370z 7AT (with VLSD from factory). My notes on this are http://www.350z-uk.c...20#entry1457750, and the whole topic is about what I found along the way to getting it installed.

On a 350z you just choose the appropriate diff. from Quaife. to match your present setup (auto/manual/manual+VLSD). On the 370z the process was a little more involved. Note that the difference between the models for open vs. viscous is in the length of the half-shafts, as the VLSD is offset.

I ordered mine directly from RT Quaife, who happen to offer very good technical support.

It is the single most useful upgrade I have made to my 'z, and the first thing I would do if I was starting over.

  3. Looking to pick up a spare rear diff, viscous LSD if anybody has one before I go hunting on ebay?

I want a spare to drop an proper LSD in for a straight swap over.

    Would a 370z one work

If so dom aka djaw on here has one

Yes, it should fit (based on how the Quaife parts I used were designed for 350 but I am using in a 370). You may also need to get some new half-shafts, also note that the 350 shafts are bolted on with through bolts. The 370 shafts are threaded. Jez at Horsham knows how to do this.

I have the VLSD innards. I think they should fit inside the pumpkin you have already. Mine had done about 37k miles when I swapped it for the Quaife. You can have it for £150, if you like. I'm not looking for a profit, just a quick sale!

  4. The traffic in Farnham was pretty bad yesterday, but a side effect meant such a slow drive by down in Wrecclesham from the Le Mans blue 370 that a smile, wave and a chance to admire what a gorgeous colour that is!

Shortly after, in Dora's Green Lane I passed and got a wave from a fancy looking Nismo 370z

At about half five that evening, a black 370 with a F* FLE plate caught up with me on the M4 after the Theale/Calcot junction. Big smile and wave from the blonde driver, which was nice!

So, there you have it Zed drivers are a nice bunch. A friendly wave never happened when I had a Porsche, or an MX-5 for that matter!

  5. Boring status update: new MPSS tyres all round. A few hundred miles in and initial impressions are good. Slightly more comfort, definitely more dry grip, not had much wet weather yet. All of this is marginal.

Standard sizes… there's enough rolling and unsprung mass already.

They're definitely quieter than the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta that was there before.

  6. First thing, I left work early and some school kids shouted "I love your car" in Newbury… ahh!

Having not seen any other zeds out for a while I passed two on Hatch Lane, Old Basing yesterday: a Chilli Red convertible 350, blanked me. I thought "grumpy git" then a Ginger 350 came past moments later who's driver flashed and waved.

This morning a friendly flash on School Hill, Wrecclesham (Farnham) from the driver of a Le Mans Blue 370.

A pointless exercise, all in, but it is nice to see other zeds about.

  8. Quaife is perfect IMHO. Quiet, maintenance free and has made the car super controllable.

I understand that a plated diff will be better for track use, but for everyday use, and even some track work you can't go wrong with the Quaife. Horsham Dev. knows how to fit them, having had a go on my car. No issues. More info on my car's blog, link in sig.

    Dominic.
