I'm thinking of selling mine. It's a 2004 GT spec in Gunmetal Grey with FSH and 69k. I'm based in Sheffield. It's on eBay at £6795 to test the water on a 10 day listing that ends on Thursday. I turned down a £6000 bid on day one but I would take that now I've had time to get used to the reality that it might have to go. I cycle to work in the summer and so it hardly moves (4k a year) and my wife's struggling at work and has dropped her hours and might have to give up work in the next year so we'll have to drop to one more practical car between us. All the details are in the eBay ad but feel free to ask any questions if you'd be interested, cheers Craig
  2. Hi, The bubbling indicates it's gone through from the inside to out corrosion and it's near the petrol cap. I'd have it treated sooner than later as bodyshops are a bit wary of welding near petrol tanks and so might want to take it off the worse it gets which would be more time and expense. I'm trying to keep mine from getting to the stage where it goes through part way up the panel like that. The lips on both my back arches had bit of rust on so for the last 2 years I've had them and the insides rubbed down and treated but yours will need a section cutting out and a new section welding in. The alternative being rear quarter panel which is a big job. I asked for quotes on both these options should it come to that and was told I'd be looking at £600 per arch for the weld option and he said he wouldn't even like to say about the other option!. I've had both front wings replaced due to the inside to out corrosion because once it's like that they can't try and treat it.
  3. Hi - I got a nearside front wing in gunmetal grey (WV2) off a 06 plate from a breakers yard in Motherwell last month. He might still have the drivers side. The one I got was £90 including postage and it's in good condition. Qwikcarpartz on ebay or 01698 747364 - cheer Craig
  4. Nissan have quoted £310.43 for the wing. £130 labour and £190 materials so this isn't looking like an option so has anyone got a gunmetal grey (W2) nearside front wing in good condition for sale?. The ones' I've seen on breakers yards so far are silver and would still need spraying, as would non genuine ones so I'm leaning towards a secondhand one. I've got the MOT and service next month and the roof needs a re-spray,and there's rust on the back arches that needs sandblasting, treating and spraying (and a small piece cutting out and a patch welding. So reluctant to buy the front wing new from Nissan when there are other issues. So if anyone's got one please drop me a PM, or wants to advise on what to do 'I'd appreciate it.
  5. I've got rust on my nearside front wing and so I see my options as being: - get an original new one from Nissan which is going to be expensive - buy a non genuine wing for around £75-£90 but I hear they can fit badly and be prone to corrosion (has anyone bought one for a 350z that's been ok?) - buy a second hand one from a breakers yard for around £125-£150, but there'd be every chance that it would be suffering from wear and tear and be on the way to being corroded. So there's risks with both the 2 cheaper options Having the original wing treated isn't an option due to the corrosion being from inside to out and too far gone (not covered by warranty either), but that's another story. I'd appreciate any thoughts or advise on which would be the best option. Thanks Craig
  6. I'm in Sheffield and have a 2004 manual UK GT model with black leather, 65k, FSH that I'm debating with myself whether to sell or not. My situation has changed in that I'm cycling to work most days in the summer so I don't have a car parking permit at work. On the days I do take the car in I park on a woman I used to work with's drive but she told me last week she's moving house so it looks I'm going to have to stump up £450 a year for a permit. Also at home the next door neighboro's are moving in 3 weeks and they only had 1 car, but the new buyers have 2 and so I'm going to struggle to get parked at home aswell as we don't have a driveway. So I'm contemplating selling up and sharing my wife's Fiat 500 as I only do 4k a year miles in he 350z anyway. So I'd be interested in testing the water to see how much I'd get for it if you want to have a look at it?, or hear more about it?.
  7. My local nissan dealer said they do a repair when it goes there as its a known issue for £60! I was stunned as they had just charged me £300+ for the service that flagged it up as being rusty.
  8. Oh yeah! I've had the car 2 years and prob pressed the black stick thing every time I've filled up.....so a complete retard moment there eh
  9. I've just tried to reset it after filling up with fuel and it won't reset or switch between A and B. The buttons don't appear to be stuck, ie they still depress and release and the mileage is still displayed and increasing. I checked to see if it could be a fuse but there doesn't appear to be one for it. Has anyone else had this issue? or know how to resolve it?
  10. I noticed rust on the front offside wheel arch of my 2004 350Z about 18 months ago. Nissan agreed to replace the wing as it was deemed inside to out corrosion and covered by the 12 year corrosion warranty being intact with the vehicle having a full Nissan service history. When I got the car back from the bodyshop I check the nearside arch and the rear arches and there was some bubbling on the inside edges of all the remaining wheel arches. I went back to Nissan and they refused to cover these under the warranty. After a long battle which ended up with me going to Motor Codes the Independent Arbitrator who ruled in Nissan's favour as although there is a full Nissan Service History there's a 3 year gap in the service dates due to the previous owner only covering 9,000 miles in the 3 years he owed it and not having it serviced during that time, and also that this rust wasn't deemed inside to out corrosion but caused by stone chips. I had argued that they had set a precident in doing the first wing and couldn't then refuse an identical second claim, but they said the first claim was done as a goodwill gesture. So after finally giving up on pursuing this I took the car to a bodyshop who ground the rust off back to the bare metal, resprayed and waxoiled the inner arches, but a year later there are signs of it starting to come back. They warned this would be the case and a new wing is an option on the front but the rear arches are part of the main bodywork and so it's more complicated and expensive. The bodyshop said even if they cut out a section and welded in new arches on the rear its a tricky shape to get right and the area where they weld it oxidises the metal and this will then rust and I'd be looking at £600 per arch so I'm finding this offputting. I don't want to have to get rid of the car before it loses any resale value it has left. I paid £6000 for it 2 years ago and it's only got 64k on it, GT spec and apart from this rust issue it's in good condition. I'd wanted a 350Z for about 5 years prior to buying it when it finally came into my affordability range and I look around at what I'd get in it's place if I was to sell now and nothing appeals so I want to keep it but I'd be interested to hear any thoughts or advice from any forum members. I'm currently thinking of taking it back to the bodyshop have the rust ground off again and having it treated with POR 15 which I've heard is the only anti rust treatment that works (if any really work). The issue I've heard with POR 15 is that it can't be overpainted afterwords as paint tends to peel off, but it does change the chemical structure of rust and hopefully will stop it spreading and going into a hole. So I was thinking of having the insides of the wheel arch lip coated in this where respraying isn't so much of an issue. The bubbling isn't visable from the outside, you have to look upwards at the inside of the wheel arch or use a mirror to really see it so its fairly early days and it's not spread to the outter part of the lip yet so I want to try and keep on top of it if I can. So I'll probably keep having the rust ground off each year and having it touched up rather than just giving in and just letting it take hold. I can't see my circumstances changing drastically for the better in the next 3-5 years in that I'd be able to afford something desirable from the next price bracket to swap it against so it's looking like a case of keeping it and enjoying it. In the back of my mind I just have a vision of if I keep the car in 3-5 years I'l be driving around in a rusty old scrapper with no resale value that's ready for the knackers yard, which would be a real shame as I only do about 5k a year in it so it would only have 79-84k on it. Call me shallow as a puddle but I like it to look good and it to be a head turner, I don't want people to look at it like a manky old dog that needs putting down. So has anyone had any experience with rust on their 350z in the same places, and if so what did did/are you doing about it?, or if not what would you do about it if in my position? how long does it take to really take hold and look a real mess if left untreated? would you stay away from products that change the chemical properties of rust and stick to grinding, paint and waxoil? would you just leave it and save the money for a new front wing and welding new sections on the rear in a few years time? or any other advice would be appreciated Thanks Craig
  11. I got the offside front wing replaced due to rust issues but needed FNSH and original paintwork (9 years into the 12 year warranty) but they have knocked back a claim on the nearside wing for the same issue as the whole of the nearside was resprayed after the car was keyed down the entire length of the vehicle. The rust is under the lip of the wheel arch in an area that's still the original paint so not accepting the nil and void warranty reply I've just had. They set a president doing one rusty wing, common sense says the other wing will have the same issue and the cars not up to the ambitious 12 year warranty issued. Next move small claims court and writing to autoexpress etc for publicity.
