Good luck left the AA a couple years ago - couldn't organise a filing cabinet drawer, let alone a recovery.
Twice the morons let me down, once by not being able to find me and giving up - despite being parked outside a school and providing the street name and postcode. Then claimed I didn't have recovery - had to leave the car overnight and get a friend to drive 30 miles to pick me up at 10pm (broke down at 4:30pm). Finally the next day they realised I did have cover and towed it back.
Second time cambelt snapped taking out the engine - which I explained on the phone, so they sent a small van with no towing ability (to the wrong town originally!) then he tried for 15 mins to fix it.... After which another hour passed and they sent a local tow truck - explained on the first call that the car was lowered so needed a low loader. Did I get one? er no. Country hick they sent asked if I wanted towing or not. I'd given up the will to live at this point and he proceeded to winch the car on the back, ripping the front bumper off on the way..
In comparison the RAC have been great, polite and have gone the extra mile to get things done (dropping girlfriend off at different location on the way, phoning around local tyre companies for replacement tyres, etc...)
I'd forgotten my pent up frustration with the 4th comedy service until I saw this post! (breathes into paper bag..)
