Should have framed the question better. Should I go for a cheaper car, with less miles but sans rays? Or go for a car at a dealer, circa 60k miles, but with rays and apline HU? Tyres on the private sale are Nankang Ultra Sport Contisportcontract 3 on the front, and Kendal Radial on the rear, car also in need of a wheel alignment.

I'm an idiot, didn't notice that only the trade zed has rays. Now I'm pretty much torn. How difficult is it to put rays on?

Planning on seeing a zed tomorrow,however this one has popped up very close to me. The Bose has been replaced by an alpine head unit, perhaps she used to belong to someone on here. I'm based in Hayes, Middlesex. After reading the tyre section of the forum I doubt I'll go for 452s, might plump for Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. Unless someone can recommend some alternatives? or if the rears have some decent tyres.

I'm viewing a Zed on Saturday, not the colour I want, but I'm an equal opportunies kinda guy. So it's a private sale, 06 but lower tax bracket, gt pack, full service history, Alzaten leather. Around 44k on the clock. Only thing is, the front tyres need changing. Where would I, and how much would it cost to buy and fit a decent pair like Falken 452's? Also, how worried should I be about replacement brake pads, clutch and flywheel? I know the usual to look for, clicky rear axle, bubbling on alloys, uneven tyre wear, bose skips, clutch slipping, spark plugs changed etc. Can anyone offer any more advise? Any local Zedders fancy a trip on Saturday lol?

Just ran a HPI check and it mentions something about a plate transfer "Plate transfer 1 previous plate(s) recorded for this vehicle" "Alert Details Plate Transfer The current plate was transferred to this vehicle on 24/02/2008 784LMT was applied to this vehicle on 23/06/2005 There are no interests recorded against 784LMT" Perhaps I'm just dunce, but what does that mean? I'm assuming a private plate was used at one time in it's life? Haven't got the vin so will complete the hpi checks tomorrow.

Went to view the zed below, the dealer originally mispriced and we have agreed a £6.5k price. Wondering if anyone knows the car? Went for a short test drive and it is a complete different beast to what I'm used to. The clutch was heavy and had a high biting point. Also the gear change was heavy, is this all normal? Car has a full service history but only P1 and p2 and a "full service" spark plugs etc have been changed. A couple of advisories around rear break pads. Body is in good condition, some corrosion on the rays and a couple of dinks on the doors. Unless I can pick one up for a bargain price of 8k then pre facelift it is for me too. Probably a "how long is a piece of string question" but how much would you, out should you be winning to negotiate off of trade poor private buys? I've always like the mk 1 cupra r, very mean styling. A simple remap would see the Leon around 260 bhp, not far from the zed, and when on boost would probably be difficult to shake. Just a pity that the mk 4 base was one of vw's worst.
