  1. Quick Update : so I definately have the wrong part for my manufacturing year.

My ZED was built September 2006 (late 06); and the correct part code is 80606-CD70B

Just ordered it - will post another update soon.

Looks like I now have a door handle for sale (2003-2006 model) - 80606-CD40B........ any offers? :D

  2. Another thread to discuss rattling / grinding:-

So, I've had my Z since Jan 2011, and experienced a strange / rattling noise - which *luckily* I could reproduce; and is now fixed / gone forever.

I've seen quite a few threads on this, and wanted to share my own views on this; and more importantly - give you something else to check / diagnose / discuss with your mechanic.

From a cold start, the rattling noise was louder, as the engine warmed - the rattling noise was faint, but still audible.

Accelerating to around 2500 - 3000rpm, and then 'backing off the pedal' / coasting (in gear) would cause the noise.

Noise was present from idle --> 2500 rpm / coasting back below 2500 rpm

    My local Nissan dealer / mechanics *god bless them*; did a sterling job of finding the problem; after checking all of the usual suspects like the heat shields etc. It was none of these *typical 350z* problems;

The actual fault was related to the VVT control solenoid (there are two); which had 'gunged up'; after a thorough clean / flush out - hey presto *noise was gone*

So, at the next service - I'm going to get them to do a full engine flush - just to make sure everything remains clean and gunk free.

Hope this post helps at least one other person who has this noise, and is going insane !!!!

    : sanity restored :

  3. I've owned my Z since Jan 2011; and the drivers side door handle (external) was damaged on the edge *not done by me, but probably due to the wide doors scraping off nearby walls etc.

[by the way - the handle seems to be made from a quite soft materials and does seem to damage easily]

Anyway.... long story short. I sourced a part from everybody's favourite auction site (which was a genuine Nissan OEM part # 80606-CD40B) and spent about 1 hour removing the damaged one from the car. [took my time so not to damage anything].

On close inspection; the two handles seem almost identical except for where the lock / key barrel aligns with the rebated area on the back of the replacement handle.

The new handle #80606-CD40B- does not have a 'top lug' cutout; and hence will not line up [the extra lug on the key barrel misaligns the keyhole in the handle, with the barrel].. and is therefore not usable.

I'm sure the part is for the 03-06MY; and mine is a late 06MY/07 registered car; so I took a punt and purchased the handle anyway; it doesn't align with the key barrel.

Two pictures show my key / lock barrel - and my original door handle - you can clearly see the extra lug on the barrel - and the slot into which the lock slides to align the keyhole.

Option 1) Do I need to source a different part for a later model? I think there is an 80606-CD40C [2007MY] door handle; but I'll be checking with my local dealer.

Option 2) Would it be advisable to grind off the top-lug from the key barrel to allow the two things to align? ..and save me a fortune buying a new handle from Nissan.

Advise welcome please; wise ones !

  4. Hi everyone

Just wanted to introduce myself on this; I'm Mark, and I'm from the West Mids.

Although I'm a new member; I've been reading this forum for many months, so decided to give it a shot - and join in the fun.

Had my Z since Jan 2011 [hence the frosty back window] - UK late 06MY/2007 registered in Silver Alloy (K23). GT Pack, Birdview (yikes!); Bluetooth Kit, 21K miles [..and now with my private plate]. Apart from the factory upgrades - a standard motor with the VQ35DE.

Will get some more pics.up once this delightful british summer will allow me time to wash / detail....

I have a few extra posts I'll be putting on soon; in the right forum areas [i hope?]

Bye for now; would be great to hear from you; and especially the local members to me; Can't wait to get 350 posts ...and get my sticker !
