  1. Dash cams have to fitted in a certain position so as not to obstruct the driver,s view and also so that the driver can not view the data as it is being recorded. It is an offence to not position the cam in the correct position. I didn't know this.
  2. Mine is to the left of the black dotted area (behind the rearview mirror, when sat in the car) as the suction cup won't stick to the black dotted area, so can't be hidden behind the rearview mirror. It was installed by Halfords. If it makes any difference it is on a roadster.
  3. It doesn't obstruct the field of view from the drivers perspective as it is on the passengers side of the windscreen, I am just wondering whether this area is taken in to account in an MOT. I can't see that it is but I suppose I am trying to find a suitable explanation for the cameras removal. I found this article: https://www.driving.co.uk/car-clinic/car-clinic-will-having-a-windscreen-camera-mean-ill-fail-my-mot/
  4. But how would one know this to be the case? Do we now have to ask a garage whether they have a policy to allow or deny a vehicle from being checked if a dashcam is installed? I agree with the above that a courtesy call to confirm the intentions would have been a much better way to proceed. I think the dashcam was disconnected for the MOT as not to obstruct the drivers view and the garage didn't put it back in place. The camera wasn't just disconnected it was physically removed and placed on the passengers seat.
  5. Yes may be I am being too overcautious or naive to think that garages would care about the customers property.
  6. I feel I should add that since getting the car back, there is a droning / humming sound that is very audible at around 40mph. I hoping it is wheel bearing but I'm fearing something more expensive is lurking round the corner
  7. Good advice Dan about asking to have the camera connected next time. I haven't decided whether to use or not to use them again though.
  8. a garage that disconnects your dashcam? I had a recent service and MOT at a garage and after reviewing the video footage, I saw the car being taken for an MOT at 10:00am and then nothing until I collected the car at 17:30pm the following evening. When questioned I was advised that the dashcam was disconnected because: A. they were worried that the camera would run down the battery - I advised it wasn't on a permanent live, only ignition activated then they said B. the car was in our pound overnight and though it is locked, we have had trouble with people breaking in to cars to steal things (plausible) However I still don't trust this as why disconnect at 10:00am if the car isn't due to be locked in their pound until after 18:00pm. Also no footage of the car being driven back from the MOT test station or the car being worked on for the service. Would you use this garage again? they are a backstreet garage, but really good with high performance vehicles, or so I thought. Any trusted garage in the Bristol area that members would like to recommend please? Cheers,
  9. would you recommend application to be done with a DA or Rotary rather than by hand?
  10. Hi Ricey, What are your products of choice at present? ones that an average person can buy please. Don't think I can stretch for £2K for some wax. lol. DC.
  11. yes went for Black Mohair:) Hope for some better weather now. The guy said that I could drop the roof after 24 hours of installation. But I have been reading to wait 3 - 4 weeks. So I am erring on the side of caution. Hopefully the British summer won't be over by that time though. DC.
  12. update 2 - so it looks like the temp issue has resolved itself.
  13. Hi, I think it might be time to look at replacing the door rubbers on the 350Z roadster. Where is the best place to buy from and are they fairly easy to fit considering I'm very much a novice mechanic / diyer? Cheers, I think I found the answer from an earlier thread which seems to indicate that Nissan do not sell these as separate items only as a roof trim kit. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
  14. update: so the temp on the drive in this morning was 9C and then dropped to 8C so it seems not to be stuck at 12C as I first thought. I'm going to see what it says when I leave this afternoon, It should be well above the 12C fingers crossed. I think the Z sensor is also behind the front bumper, but perhaps someone with more knowledge can confirm? Alex - can you PM me the details on the bushes, costs and payment methods and the type please. I am planning on having a service done in a couple of weeks. Also what brake pads are people using this days for general road use? I have Ferodo DS2500 all round but am thinking of something else as they squeal a bit, even after having them removed and then reseated at the last service. Cheers.
  15. Thanks Alex. I'll call them in the morning to explain. It is a bit strange with the outside temp gauge being borked as well so I'm not sure I would consider it coincidental, but fingers crossed that might sort itself out tonight. If I get up tomorrow and drive off at 7am and the temp is still 12C then I know something is broke. Thanks again. Also, I might be in need of some banana arm bushes - can you still get them?
  16. what both issues? could the changing of the roof cause the temperature gauge to be out? the guy said that the window issue was probably down to some gunk on the rails again I'm not sure if this is correct. What could he have inadvertently done when replacing the roof do you think Alex?
  17. Bristol Sunroof Centre as they were recommended and are local to me. The guy seemed to know his stuff and loves all kinds of convertibles / soft tops.
  18. Hi. OK had a new mohair roof fitted today and have a couple of issues since getting the car back 1) the drivers window doesn't drop low enough when opening the door to clear the top of the new roof. Is there a window reset or do I need to get this professionally looked at? 2) the gauge that show outside temperature seems to be reading 12C when it was more like 20C. Again can this be reset? or would the replacing of the roof have caused an issue with sensors? Cheers for all your advice and comments they really are welcomed. Once I get chance I will post some pics of the new roof. DaddyCee
  19. has anyone got good quality photos to show the difference between PVC and Mohair please?
  20. Mohair it is then. Thanks to all. Just need to get the car booked in and the sunny weather to begin
  21. Is it hard to keep clean and does it suffer from mould more than the PVC one does?
  22. Ah so I am being fibbed to then. I'm shocked as I really trusted the source.
  23. Hi Everyone, It looks like I need to get the hood replaced as it has failed on one of the corners near the drivers door and also it looks to be going on the otherside as well. Do I replace with like for like i.e. PVC or go for Mohair? I hear that Mohair is harder to maintain but a nicer finish. The best price I have is £850.00 all in but its a fairly long journey away so locally I can get £898.80 +VAT this is for Mohair or £645 all in for PVC / Standard Another question - I am being led to believe that Twilweave is another name for Mohair is this correct? Cheers and appreciate all your responses. DC
  24. i thought the standard horn on the 350Z was pretty good. I can tell you the one on the Ford Puma is pish.
  25. looks like £850 inc VAT fitted at their premises for a mohair variety. I'd be interested in this.
