  1. :D

Looking to book up my first ever track day for 11th Sep at RAF Cottesmore.

    Full day open pit!

Can anyone give me any standard advice re-track days or any info specific to Cottesmore please?

    :drive1

I'm a complete noob, so be good to more of an idea of what to expect!!

Also, other than checking all fluids, brakes, tyres etc, is there anything else I should consider doing?

    Cheers

  2. For people who haven't heard a K1 in person, to give you an idea of just how vocal it can be when I was installing my one I ran the engine with just the cats on for a laugh, and giggled as it was monstrously loud. I then finished fitting the y-pipe and K1 and started her up, and it was no quieter than when there was nothing on there cat-back! :scare:

All the K1 does is add tone, whether or not it's a likeable one is very much up for debate :)

    :lol::lol::lol:

I'm glad to see all that stainless and so called back boxes make a lot of difference!!

  3. local enough to get there any back under my own steam. I only ask as i know that the javelin days are expensive for one driver, but cheap for a second, plus it'd be hard to get your moneys worth i reckon if you go on your own. tbh i'd be quite interested in even just coming along as a passenger - what date were you going over there for?

back on topic though, id start the day with no bungs, and then put them in if they ask you to. I personally dont believe a car can ever be too loud - if you ever watch a GT1 race you'll realise that loud is good! been on a day with an s2000 running a straight pipes and while he did get black flagged for noise, it sounded awesome (could clearly hear it wherever it was on the track lol)

Possibly going on the 11th with a buddy of mine. If so I'll let you know. Happy to give you a passenger ride after I had a few practice laps!!

  4. I've done quite a few trackdays with my K1 mate.

    My set up is:

    Standard Cats

    Japspeed Y pipe

    K1 exhaust.

Based upon static tests at Cadwell, Oulton and Mallory

With the bungs in at 3/4 revs I get 93.5 - 94.0 Db (Based on 4 trackdays)

With the bungs out at 3/4 revs I got 103.7 Db (Based on 1 trackday)

After the one day at Oulton I always leave the bungs in, my ears were bleeding far too much and I had a beast of a headache!

You will have aboslutely no issues with a bunged K1 unless you have HFC's or de-cats at which point I can't help regarding noise level conformance.

Thanks SteveW, that's good news and sounds promising!

I have standard y pipe and cars.

RTBuscuits airbox mod and a K&N filter.

So should be similar to yours!!

    Woo hoo......

    :drive1

  5. You wouldnt hear the exhaust much through a helmet anyways!

Very Jealous of you going to Cottesmore - I've been trying to find a mate for some time to share entry and fuel costs with, but to no avail! if you want someone to share entry and fuel costs with let me know lol

    Good point, helmet will help.

Are you local to the track?

  6. Cool, you would have thought a few cars would be a lot quieter than jets taking off!!

Excelent, can you notice a difference with them out?

May stick some ear plugs in the cubby just in case!! :surrender:

    :drive1

  7. Hi, thanks for that.

TBH, I think I'd need ear plugs if I was driving it without the bungs!

Tried it for about a mile or out of curiosity and stopped to put them back in!

Looking to go to an open pit lane session @ RAF Cottesmore.

Hopefully not too challenging for my first go and has plenty of run off space!

  8. Just wondering if any one can help?!

Looking in to track days at the moment, but there is a 105db noise limit.

I'm running a K1 exhaust with bungs in.

Any ideas as to whether I'll be under this limit?

If not, where can I get a cheep meter from?

    Cheers

    Jacko

  9. Loving the visor, and the lights on the roll bar, looks great.

Unfortunately I had a 4 Life, so not quite a fancy, but black over sil B) ver was a good look.

Did the Warrior have rear diff lock, the Animal's apparently didn't.

    Dodge Ram, awsome! :teeth:

But that doesn't do many to the gallon!!

Like wise in the snow, my route to work was blocked, so a 5 mile diversion through the snow and green lanes was good fun!

Did almost get stuck in a bog once too, eventually rocked it out only to find I had a puncture, interesting changing that in a muddy lane!

Have seen a Vid of the Hilux having handling issues on You Tube, not know if it's fixed, but up on two wheels looks a little interesting!!

  10. Thinl most people have covered your arguemant for you, but thought I'd give you some insite to the L200.

I had one as a company car a few years back, 53 plate one.

Loved it, loved driving it, even though it wasn't very quick off the line, but it cruised well.

Also, very practical, especially if you had a decent box on the back.

Great fun on the odd snow day and muddy green lane too!!

Down sides, the engine blew up, or rather a con rod broke and made a nice hole in the side of the engine! This also happened to my bosses one! Fortunately they were both covered under warenty.

The turbo on mine was also a little tempermental and the one strapped to the new engine was noticably better.

Servicing costs a bomb, especially at Mitzy, up to £700 for a major!!

Still, I know this is a company vehicle and you don't have to pay for any of this, but my company decided to get rid of them as they cost too much to run and maintain and after their warranty period would cost an arm and a leg to repair!

I'd like to think the new ones are better and more reliable. I do know our director has had two Navaras in the past 8 years and nothing major has gone wrong with those, the second one was basiaclly a new upgrade!!

    Navara v L200 v HiLux???

  11. there was a fix posted up a while ago to straighten the k1.... something that can be done with the mounting rubbers

Cheers Neil, I'll have a search for that, sounds easier than bending!! :)

My stock one was pretty level, but the K1 I'd noticeably different, probably 15mm out!

  12. This thread as been mega helpful!

I am however looking at the buddy club exhaust and just wondering if anyone else has got this or had experience with one. I want a good bit of grunt when I punch the throttle but I don't want to wake up the street when I'm pulling onto the drive late at night.

ideally id like to come down to a meet and listen to a few, im based in Southport north of liverpool and any help would be appreciated guys

The buddy club will wake up your neighbours from 2 miles away without the bungs. The scorpion is pretty loud when beasted and silent on long journeys. The k1 with bungs in sounds perfect IMO but t's just a shame it looks so shite and has fitment issues.

I have a K1 and unfortunately the bungs don't make it look great.

Must admit, tempted to paint them black! Or mounth them further in?!

It sounds good when accelerating and isn't too bad on long journeys.

I didn't have any problems fitting it, in fact the hard part was getting the old one off!

Only problem is one side is higher than the other!

Still, when I get time, I'm sure I can bent the exhausts bracket a little to level them up.
