  1. Certainly not the quickest but not too shabby for my 2nd time at Oulton in the GTR. Always funny how a video can make it look like you're driving so slow!

First time using Harry's Lap Timer, will definitely be using it every other track day, highly recommended!

How can I embed the YouTube video?

  2. I'll be there about 8am, briefing is normally 8:30am and if you miss that you have to go to another one around 9am which means you might miss your first track session.

There's a petrol station about 1 mile away but I normally can't be arsed going off-site to get petrol so I just get it on-site during the day. It's more expensive but normally about £5-6 more for a full tank, nothing extreme.

The on-site petrol station is only open once or twice through the day so I normally fill up at the petrol station 1 mile away on the way there and then use the on-site pump at about 1pm.

You're free to come and go whenever you want once you have your wristband(s).

  3. Nice monster there, be good fun in the summer. I cant wait to get out on my 996 now ive fitted some better tyres!

What are the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa like (I assume they were the stock tyres on that too?) Read a few reviews and some have said they're a bit crap in the wet.

  4. If the SLS AMG gearbox wasn't so turd it would be next on my list. The GT looks nice but not enough theatrics about it for my liking.

I used to like the C63 but then the chavs seek to have gotten hold of them and attend weekly meets just revving the @*!# off of them then wheel spinning down the road like a bellend.

  5. You'd mainly notice them after doing a track day without them and with them. The OEM lines after a decent stint start to give a spongey feel to the brakes, you'll end up pushing the pedal down more to get the same stopping power and eventually you're brakes will just feel like turd and not stop you properly.

I'll have to take you out in my car to show you the GTRs stopping power, it's rather abrupt :D

  6. Hi

Done a lot of track days with my old cars and have a standard 350z currently and want to get back on track this year :)

Plan to get some uprated brake pads and brake fluid (5.1) - is it recommended to fit an oil cooler?

I never had issues doing 20 minute sessions on track with my 350z. Decent brakes, fluids and braided lines help a fair bit though towards the end of sessions.

  7. i got a quote for £100 whcih i thought was good... and my car isn't 30K

my mate will be over that threshhold so he's better going to the insurer themselves?

If it's a specialist insurer, ie not Admiral, Direct Line etc then look online to see if they offer track day cover. It's usually the cheapest option but if it's just a general car insurer they won't so you'll have to get track day insurance as a separate policy.

There's quite a few to get quotes from, they'll normally set the excess as 10% of the vehicle value so if you think the excess is high it's just standard.

I would've thought you could insure a zed for a fair bit under £100 per track day considering a £45k car is around £140-150.

  8. He might struggle if it's over £30k. See if his insurer can do it as that's by far the cheapest. Any 3rd party track insurance is expensive and just based on car value. Probably looking at £100 for £30k car per track day.

  9. It'll possibly be 6 runs depending on light, i think in October we had 6 due to it getting dark earlier. 20 minute stints are decent enough as if you're staying out longer than that your standard brakes will start to fade.

I've booked it and sorted insurance now so looking forward to it! :D A mate in an Elise is coming and he's bringing someone with a Clio 200.

  10. As above, start off slow and build up as the day goes on. I was crapping myself on my first track day but by mid afternoon I was absolutely loving it. The tuition is well worth the money, they give you a lot of confidence in the corners and have you carrying a lot more speed through them.

You can rent helmets for £10, driver and passenger will need one when on the track. I normally take a few snacks and drinks with me as the food there is expensive. You can normally nab a garage too which is handy if it's raining outside or if you fancy taking a chair for when you're not on track.
