  1. Eureka! ***FOUND IT*** But how to cure it? Its the (silver) plastic cross-brace cover that has the 'Z' in the middle of it thats in the centre of the boot area. If I grip this (silver) cover and give it a shake (simulating the car moving) I get the exact same squeek. Any ideas why this might be squeeking and/or how I remove this cover chaps? Thanks for your attention so far guys.
  2. It sounds like you have located your problem in the rear of the car, specifically the space saver. Please don't take it to Nissan, it will be a waste of your money. +1 - Best option is get someone from on here whio knows their way round the 350's and passenger you. Not sure where you are based, but if you let on then I am sure you will get some help and a drink comes an awful cheaper that £100 an hour. Might regret saying that as someone will say they can down more than £100's worth in an hour Hi Chaps. Unfortunately its not the space saver - I took this out and drove down the road but the noise is still there. I live in the Horsham area of West Sussex.
  3. Well, thats it! I'm at a complete loss as to how to narrow down this squeek so its off to the local Nissan dealer at £100 per hour to get it sorted...unless...somebody knows where I can get the instructions to remove all of the trim in the boot (including the Polystyrene tool holder). I downloaded the service manual but can't find the instructions in there either. I've removed the spare wheel, pushed wedges between bits of plastic trim that seem to move in order to hold them firm but I'm clearly overlooking something and really need to get it all out and then re-install until I find out what it is thats making it squeek. Cheers
  4. Thanks again for all your replies chaps! I did the bleedin' obvious last night and stuck the TomTom in the cubby and drove around for a bit. No problem - got the full signal all the time. Great. I still can't believe how well the TomTom XXL & XL fit into that compartment - its like it was tailor made for them. And a simple pull-out to update the maps when required. Top tip guys - this is the way to go if you want a Sat Nav installed in your car. You can even reclaim the cubby at a moments notice for storage. Anyway I rang Road Radio back to see if they'd just run the (hidden) lead power for me - which they'll do for about £35 by installing another cigarette lighter socket behind the dash. Its £35 unless they have to remove the standard factory fitted Nissan 6CD player to get at the wiring behind the dash. The bloke seems to think that the below the cubby is blanked off so he might have to remove the cd player...in which case the price is £50 all-in. I'll post a picture when its done. Cheers
  5. Thanks for the replies so far chaps. Unfortunately the 'Nurish' idea, whilst undoubtedly a good deal, is a no-go for me as my daughter bought me a TomTom XXL as a present to go with my newly purchased 350z and I don't have the heart to ask her to return it to the shop so the solution must involve this bit of kit. The only decision is to mount in the cubby or have a short stub of wire showing. Will the cubby lid not interfere with the signal then? Perhaps not. I suppose this will mean drilling a hole in the back of the cubby for the wires.
  6. Hi chaps Ive just rang a Nissan dealer re getting a bona-fide nissan Sat Nav installed (Bird View is it?) and was quoted £1,900.00... ...yep...£1900.00... ...to have one fitted! Having trawled through here I found an old(ish) thread where a chap had adapted an ordinary stick-to-the-windscreen Sat Nav and fitted it into the centre cubby and wondered if it would actually, in the real world environment, work and work well??? I rang Road-Radio who said they wouldn't fit it into the cubby as it wouldn't get any reception (or at best get patchy reception). They said that they'd hide a new cigarette socket somewhere and run the Sat Nav's power lead from this up to the dash and that it would poke out somewhere near the windscreen. Effectively this would hide the wires and leave a short stub sticking up on the dash that I could connect up to. It would certainly be neater than the wires-everywhere I currently suffer but not quite as sexy as the pictures below. I've PM'ed the guy who did this to ask if it works but to date no reply. So - will the pictures below actually work or are Road Radio correct? - whats the considered opinion of you chaps on here???
  7. Hmmm...this is a strange one. If I take the spare (space-saver) wheel out the squeeking stops but if I put it back... Anyway, the noise sounds like the noise you'd expect to hear if polystyrene were squeeking. I see the tool kit is housed in something very similar but the spare wheel isn't touching it... I'll have another grope about next weekend. Thanks a million for all your input though chaps - it was very much appreciated and led to me scrutinising the boot for the culprit. Other than that, with the spare out the car is fantastic.
  8. Hi Guys Well just picked it up and its treat to drive. Lovely and smooth and grippy as hell. One niggle though. There's a squeeking coming from behind me, it's very persistent and is kinda like a bit of plastic trim is rubbing against something or like a squeeky spring - at least, thats what it sounds like. This is spoiling my enjoyment of the engines note. I can take the car back but its a 2 hour drive so if its a known fault (ie loose trim) I'd get it done locally and save the time/petrol/hassle. Before I take it back any ideas? Cheers in advance!
  9. Crikey!...a fourteen step guide! With cut lengths of rubber hose and mole grips and take some sandwiches...wow. Cheers though Dave. Does this mean that Toon Chris's idea might not work?
  10. As per the title really. Does it just unscrew? Cheers.
  11. Cheers Leeroy. Yep, the 4L V8 SC Chimaera was indeed a bit of a beast. 0-60 in just under 4 secs and sounded out of this world....right up until the engine exploded......twice.......and that wasn't the only issue over the course of my stewardship of it - don't get me started on that Still...I had 3 great years of fun with it when it was running and on organised early Sunday morning runs it was almost orgasmic - almost. So, in a nutshell, TVR ownership is great BUT to be realistic you'd best have deep pockets. I'm hoping (nay praying) thats not the case with the Z and I suspect it isn't as, after a while, it has a wearing effect. The community that surrounds TVR ownership is brilliant though and thriving and the cars look stunning. I love the look of the Z as well so it was a natural move for me. Pistonheads (if you know what that is) was originally a TVR only forum that grew but is still predominantly frequented by TVR owners and thats just one of the many sites that can be joined. I'll post up pics of the new Z after I collect it - which hopefully will be tomorrow! This is my first ricer - really looking forward to it. Cheers.
  12. Very nice - Is it picking up the satellites ok though? I spoke to Road Radio about mounting a Tom-Tom in the cubby and they said they wouldn't do it as you wouldn't get Sat signal.
  13. What is this "issue" please? I'm picking mine up at the weekend and could do without any "scares" on the way home just as I'm getting used to it. Cheers
  14. Again - many thanks to all those welcoming me aboard.
  15. Yep - thats it. They've offered me a deal that effectively makes my outlay on both cars the same - the grey one doesn't have Sat Nav the orange does so I'd have to have it fitted which is £££'s. I see I got the mileage wrong but the mileage differential between the 2 cars right at approx 4k. Oops - to late, they have my deposit. What was the problem with them, they don't seem any worse than any other indy dealer?
  16. The Grey is on a 56 plate and the orange on a 57 plate. The grey has 26,000 miles though whilst the orange has 30,000 and the orange has sat nav and azalean leather.
  17. Hi Guys I've just been given the option to switch my deposit paid for my Gunmetal Grey Z to a Z the dealers have just taken as a px thats in Temper Orange - the price is the same. The dealer tells me the orange variant of the Z is a much rarer beast and says all things being equal he'd swap in a heart beat. I'm assuming he's not trying to offload the orange for any reason. So, can I pick your brains please chaps 1. Is the Orange colour perceived in the Z community as less desirable than the Grey (or any other colour come to that) - after all its almost the same colour as the Ford RS orange on their Focus etc and they are usually driven by boy-racers. Or does that make it more attractive 2. Are the orange cars just as re-sellable as (say) the Grey/Silver/Blue etc? As its neither here nor there to me from a beauty point of view its other considerations like the above that will sway me one way or the other. I don't mean this to be a popularity contest or insult owners of orange ones - just get a handle on the ramifications of going orange - if any. Cheers! im00
  18. Thank you - I most certainly will - roll on Saturday.
  19. Oh - 1 more question please - when I drive it off the forecourt next weekend what petrol should I be putting in? Unleaded, Super Unleaded, or Optimax Only?
  20. Fantastic info & links chaps. It would appear then that I have both the Cradle & Adaptor. So presumably its just a case of now pairing my mobile with this adaptor? I'll do a search for this on this forum. Again - wonderful responses. And no smart-arse comments like on Pistonheads! I'm gonna like this.
  21. Brilliant - Bluetooth adapter, makes sense - Thanks Guys and thanks for the warm welcome! My last car:
  22. Hi all. I've today put a deposit down on a lovely Gunmetal Grey 350z on a 56 plate (GT Pack Included) from a dealer in hampshire. I'm really looking forward to this - my last car was a Supercharged Chimaera so I needed something equally exciting and think I may have found it. Anyway...one question I wonder if anyone can help me on - you'll probably all know what this and in 6 months time I'll be embarrassed I asked but here goes: When sitting in the drivers side of the car I opened the cubby hole on the centre consul that sits between the 2 front seats roughly below my left elbow. Inside it was empty save for something that resembles black plastic mobile phone but it doesn't seem to be moveable within the cubby hole. It had a lead running to it. I've read the owners manual on-line and it doesn't mention what this is. Can any of you chaps enlighten me please? Many thanks for your help in advance im00
