So the zed has gone and a few bits still in the shed
Boot Liner - I must say that this was my favorite bit i bought for the zed. Moulded boot liner (coupe only) great if you dont have the thick boot mat. Its lovely thing even if you do!
Zed badge on the mat - they are about £180 from nissan.

1 Series BMW's are probably the best little (ish) cars on the market at the moment in my opinion.
+1 Mrs Drivebyabusers 1 series is a joy to dive and even though its a 118d it feels nippy enough most of the time

You won't have noticed me. I was in a cab. It was a prius and I still feel the shame and regret. You however were making 'progress'

It would be great to know what makes a difference - i was going to strip the boot this weekend but seems no point.
Fixed it - it seems that the bit of plastic on the boot hatch (the lower bit that covers the wiper motor) was loose. I took it off and re fitted it and was done. Simples

Not when I go round a bend - its more when driving over uneven ground (effectively when the car is shook from side to side).
Its deffo not the zorst - it was making the noise when we had the stock one on. Its prob drop links - need to get round to changing them in honesty. New tyres on Saturday first though!
did this work? i have the same squeak on mine. its driving me nuts!

Current Beemer is a 1.8 petrol and is a lovely motor that has done us well over the past few years......how would the 118d auto compare? I take it the auto drive is the 'lazier' option but is it still an enjoyable car to drive in regards to responsiveness and power delivery??? Being a true petrol-head I hadn't considered a diesel but I suppose with our mileage a diesel would be beneficial to have in the household!!!
I find the auto really good - yes lazier but in semi-auto mode still enough to play with. Its obviously no zed but the torque and the gearbox make it an everyday car that is pleasant to drive and trust me you will enjoy it enough when you are on your own.
Also a 118d is plenty fast enough in real world. You may not win a traffic light GP's but it gathers and keeps speed very capably. The economy (regular 36mpg around town however its driven) is a bonus. You will end up leaving the zed keys on the side if you know you are trawling through traffic.

I have to say my missus' 1 series is one of the best cars I have ever driven. 118d auto se - it should suck but i just cant fault it. 35mpg around town rwd and a giggle in the bends. IMHO the best small car you can buy. And £10K gets you a nice one. Enough room for a family even and a boot. Try one you wont be disappointed.

Sorry - Didnt mean to open a can of worms!
The beauty of forums is that they "polarise" opinions and the debate is almost always healthy
I think its got to be worth a punt - I'll post up the results when i get them.

I met a guy in a car park the other day with an '04 GT that he had had since new. He told me that BG44K fuel additive and carbon deposit cleaner had worked wonders on his Zed. It gave him.... drum roll .... 2 or 3 extra mpg on an urban cycle and 4 or 5 mpg on the motorway.
Its £20 per can so not a major risk - i just dont want it to ruin my lump!
Has anyone used it? Is it snake oil?
Having googled it there seems to be some quite positive reviews and mentions in various forums.
Would be interested in any informed opinions

I have the same - i thought it was something to do with the aircon or the heating system. I get the noise intermittently after about 30 mins of driving then seems to go away. Curious if anyone has an answer.

Got today - Many thanks

Bit random - need the bolt that clamps the spare wheel in.
Mine never came with one - Just wondered if anyone had one knocking about?

Is anybody going to the Pistonheads Sunday service in maple cross on the 15th May. I have my name down as I'm local. If you are there give me a nudge (black 55 plate) - there may be a couple of other zeds there but apparently its a nice morning out and a chance to chat with other people with half decent cars.
Its a Renault and Nissan sponsored event so it may have some interesting metal there too.

Had the afternoon off after a wedding I went to in the morning
So i decided to clean the car properly. I'm a zed newbie and this is the first time I have had a car that I wanted to actually spend some time cleaning. While I know a lot of you folks do it the whole time i was quite pleased with my efforts (although as soon as it was all finished i saw loads of stuff i could do better)
I used the muc-off kit that a mate of mine got cheap for me. With Muc-off Uber Shine, Muc-off Wheel cleaner and Muc-off split second detailing wax. Came with brush wash mit and micofibre cloth too
After washing used Meguiar's quik clay on it and although only a small bar was impressed with the results. (I cant help rubbing my hands over it like some kind of perv )
After a bit of work on some of the scratches and a going over with my electric car polisher; then used the muc off wax and finally with some carplan nano that i had never used.
Never seen the zed look as good and i am afraid that many more afternoons will be spent outside the house with the house.... Its very addictive this detailing lark i can see why people get hooked on it.
Mrs drivebyabuser was very scornful when i started but despite all the bleating and moaning that i was a sad looser she couldnt help being impressed.
Came out this morning and it was covered in tree sap and pollen but still looks great.
I like the muc-off stuff too - cant see it has much of a following but its good value and i thought it did a good job. It also smells of coconut
Now i am after some snow foam and a good quality polish...and another free afternoon when the weathers just right!
