  1. Sees like your battery has expired Buddy; if the car restarted after a run the alternator is probably charging OK and the battery isn't retaining the charge. You can get a reasonable quality replacement for £60-£70. Ask a battery supplier to give the suspect battery a load test before you buy.

  2. Try an apprpriately sized 'metrinch' socket or spanner. It will allow you to apply much more torque than a standard tool as they apply pressure to the flat of the fastener head rather than the point of the hex-head. They are also a 'slacker' fit for a given size and that will help with rounded and/or rusted fastener heads.

  3. Can anyone help please? My local dealer have included minor caliper damage as part of a P2 service. Obviously they are being invited to repair/replace but I recall some recommendation of a Humbrol enamel for this job. Can't find it via 'Search' (only a 2008 thread on a custom mix touch up), do any of you guys recall the Humbrol colour recommended?

  4. Its a bit over your preferred engine capacity; but have thought of a Land-Rover? Very easy to work on, an excellent way to learn skills and basic technologies, parts are readily available and unbelievably cheap. Plus, make a decent job of your work/mods and you are bound to make a profit as Land-Rovers are bought/sold on condition not age.

    Good luck.

  5. I have for sale one part-worn Potenza 245/45/18. I had a P2 service 2 weeks ago and the service report declares this tyre as Inner 5mm/’Midd’ 4mm/Outer 4mm. The tyre’s axle companion suffered an unrepairable puncture last week and I bought a pair as replacements. The tyre for sale has no damage or repairs. Price is £30 plus shipping to UK Mainland by Hermes at £12 (Hermes declared ‘remote' areas excepted) Buyer can collect from Malvern district Worcestershire or I will deliver to J7 on M5. Will ship on receipt on cleared funds. I have paypal account.

  6. I was with AA few a few years and had the misfortune of needing their assistance - unfortunately I found them a total waste of space on each occasion. Converted to Britannia Rescue, they have bailed out my (notoriously) unreliable Land-Rover on many occasions. Great service, quick and get top ratings on many reviews. Recommend you change to them.

  7. I considered keeping my old car for use in the week and driving the zed just at the weekends. My main reason was that I do 500miles a week, and my old car was doing 60mpg, tyres cost 25quid each and it cost me hardly anything to service myself.

But where the idea fell down for me was the insurance. I got loads of quotes and even though im nearly 40, and have 18 years ncb, the cost of insuring the 2nd car threw the whole idea in the bin. I would have though the insurance company would have welcomed the idea of me driving a cheap 2nd car rather than the zed in the week, as surely that would drastically reduce the risk of me having an accident or making a claim. But, instead they wanted something like 550quid on top of the 800quid the zed is costing just to insure the old banger. I was execting the zed premium to be reduced due to lack of risk, and the 2nd car costing a lot less.

So I sold the old banger now use the zed full time every day as my main car.

If you are only driving at the weekends anyway, then i wouldnt think having a second car would be worth it. You can fit load of stuff in the zed, incl golf clubs!

What??? I insure my Zed, a Discovery and a Golf with LV= for a little over £500 pa net. (Zed is £274 of that, excess £150, 8000miles pa). I live in rural Worcestershire, clean license. 75%NCB protected.

  8. You shouldn't really need to spend anymore than £10 on the high street - many used 'phone dealers will do it. Also search on the internet for unlocking codes, there are plenty of sites around offering free codes (Nokia is particularly well served).

    Good luck
