  1. This is the same noise mine was making. I had the clutch and fly replaced and is now spot on. The springs in the flywheel had compressed in mine, the rattling is the two sections of flywheel hitting each other as they are no longer cushioned by the compressed springs. (on phone so hard to give better explanation)

  2. That sound good to me, cheers.

I have all tcs systems switched off. I know its been discussed on here but thats the way I like to drive the car.

I really do rate the federal tyres. I purchased 235/40/18's and 255/35/18's for the rear. They drive well on the road and grip better than any road tyre ive used, they are better than hankook rs2's in my opinion. I have not drive in the wet on them though. They have worn very smoothly and have not torn or worn the edges. They were around £540 delivered for the set

  3. Always wanted to ask - what's it like driving the ring? Always been scared that it would be hundreds of radicals and bikes buzzing past me so a degree I didn't even feel confident to give it any, constantly looking in the mirror.

    Is that accurate or unfair?

Everybody has to be a beginner at some point. Stick to the right and be observant and you will be fine.

Just make sure you do it. Book up, drive over and do it.

If you are a petrolhead, there is no better place.

  4. I have completed roughly 85 laps of the ring now over 7 trips and 6 years.

Practice is key but the distance and cost limits how often I can get there.

My brakes held up great, I am very pleased with them. I had zero braking problems. EBC discs, Bluestuff pads and my trusty cooling ducts.

I tend to run 2 laps back to back then take a cooling down period, this not only helps brakes but also tyres to stay at resonable temps and pressures.

I had my BC's set to 15 front and 13 rear. I was running 255/35/18's on the rear so wanted to compensate for the very stiff unforgiving sidewall. I run 15 clicks all round (30 clicks of adjustment are available) on the road, as some of you know, the ring is quite bumpy in places and not smooth like a normal race track.

@Bennet/ GT4 Z- you may well be right about some of dodgy lines. I will have to look up the corner names so I can check out where you mention my lines are off. I have not had any instruction at the ring and just "use the force" .

What I do find usefull though is to play ring lap videos side by side so I can compare different lines and speeds. I have watched Taurim vids and he is just quick all the way round! Do you have your 8.15 lap on video? I'd love to see where I am losing the time.

    :drive1

  5. Thank for the comments guys!

Check out the other vids on my youtube account from the weekend if you like. There are some interesting tussles on there!

There really is nothing like a trip to the nurburgring and the high speed autobahn blasts that go with it- 150mph gps for what felt like ages, my rear tyre profile has robbed some of my top speed.

I have some ring lap tickets in the for sale section if anyone is planning a trip over there. Check them out.

  6. Hi

I have a total of 15 laps for sale at the Nurburgring. They are spread over 3 cards. One card also has 20euros of food vouchers on there.

So thats 15 laps and 20euro food voucher. This would be roughly £280 worth.

    I am after £225 delivered.

  7. Well we are back from the Nurburgring. It turned out to be a fairly eventfull trip to say the least!

The cars performed very well. This time they included: 3x 350z, csl, vxt, e36 m3 evo and a s2000.

I set my new best time of 8.23min BTG which I am very happy with :teeth:

My Z could be faster but when I take into account the limited mod budget ive had and the fact the girlfriend uses the car as a daily driver, once again I am impressed with the versatility of the car.

  8. The settings I wanted- not too far from standard were attainable with standard toe and camber adjusters. No extra parts required.

With a 20mm drop, the front camber measured -1.2 deg ( still in Nissan spec). The rear camber was set to -2.0 degrees.

  9. I fitted them myself.

I then took the car to be alligned. It was £59 for front and rear toe. £12.50 per corner for camber.

Only the rear is adjustable for camber.

Try to leave the settings of the rear spring height adjusters and the damper bodies as they are from the factory for now. If you find the car wants lowering from the factory settings, make sure you adjust the spring height and damper body length equally.

  10. I measured the ride height before I fitted my BC kit and dropped each corner by 20mm.

I am happy with that. I dont like my cars too low and scrapping the ground.

The fitting price sounds alittle steep to me but may be the going rate round your way.

  11. My MNR was 8 seconds a lap quicker around cadwell park than my stripped out 321bhp e36 m3 evo.

The power to weight ratio is what makes a car quick around a tight track. But the car still has to be driven in the right way. A 1000 bhp per ton car will still be off the pace if the driver cant drive it properly.

Even with FI and a fancy diff and suspension, I dont see a Z keeping up with a well driven, high power to weight, 7 style car. Well done if you can though

  12. I have passed GT3's, caterhams, lambo's etc in my zed at the Nurburgring or other trackdays. Fact.

In my previous post I said, "well driven 7/ catherham/ MNR etc on track"

Its all about getting the best from your equipment

  13. The Zed isn't a particularly good base for a track car in the first place. Too heavy & too many electronics: It was designed as a road car which is where it excels. Sure, you can make it better on track, but an average Caterham is going to walk all over you for about 50% of the cost.

Driver of said Caterham will also be very wet and very cold when it starts raining, but you get the point.

I used to own a caterham copy- an MNR with a R1 bike engine. I can tell you one of these cars is in a different league to a 350z around a track.

I dont think any 350z owner really thinks they could hustle a well driven 7/ catherham/ MNR etc on track.

All we are doing is sharing knowledge on how to tweak the Z while at the track to make it a more fun, less nannying experience.

I dont go into detailing/ polishing related threads and call them crazy fools!

  14. Cheeky update on this, as I went out for two sessions at Donington this weekend. Im running 255/40/18 on the front and 275/35/19 on the rear, both with matched RE050A tyres (someone tell Ekona, quick ;))

Before anyone says anything my TCS is probably super sensitive due to the non standard radiuses. :)

After 2 corners I was already having problems with the stability control firing the front brakes on me, it was actually causing them to lock and threw the car off line. I managed to drive round it for the most part but it seriously affected my enjoyment and Id argue the stability and safety of the car, bad news.

Got back in and pulled all of the ABS plugs and got the slip light to come up, went back out and the difference was astonishing. I only plugged them back in so the missus could drive it home. :D

Id also add that Ive run spacers on loads of different cars and the Zed was the only one that was adversly affected by it. :)

So you turned off ABS and TCS? You crazy *******! ;)

You may face the wrath of the anti fun police!

  15. Enough bullshit from everyone I think and yes it is possible for young people to afford cars much better than these.

Another member on here had his nearly new zed at 18, and then an r35 gtr @ 21, he is a good friend of mine and has also burst his arse to get the fancy things he wants.

Ummmm. Sorry mate, no-one gets a GTR at 21 without some luck featuring in there. I worked 70+ hours from the age of 18 (when I left college), I cant accept that there would be any way I could afford a £20K car at 18 and then insure it regardless of what I did for a living.

I now own a company that turns over 5m a year and I cant afford a GTR ........ sure, I could sell my house and buy somewhere much smaller, but to do that at 21??

Fair play to you and your mate, always good to see someone grafting for what theyve got, but you cant tell me that anyone, anywhere could have a GTR at 21 if they worked hard, I cant accept that. :)

is he a drug dealer neil?

thats the only way at that age i can think that someone can make enough money to buy a GTR; or working for the family business.

not saying either job isn;t hard work

Neilp is pretty gansta himself!
