  1. I'm reasonably convinced that you can get away with a significantly lower than standard CCA as long as you're not trying to start the engine at -20degC with all ancilliaries running at the same time... Will you post up to let us know how you get on with it? Over winter too? Cheers, Doug
  2. I'm pretty sure the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating is 490 for the OEM battery and wierdly, a genuine Nissan replacement has a CCA rating of 550...?! I think it was somewhere on my350z.com. If you find the source before I do, post it up! Cheers, Doug
  3. Sorry for the thread hijack... But where do you get your mapping done. Many thanks, Doug
  4. So is that the Rev-up or 35th anniversary engine you're referring to? (middle column in this table)
  5. Yo! From what I can gather, one of the main differences between the VQ35DE and VQ35HR is that the HR has a variable exhaust cam as well as the intake, whereas the the DE only has the variable intake... Can anyone comment about how much difference this actually makes in real terms? All thoughts appreciated... Cheers, Doug
  6. Thanks for that info Alex... Much appreciated! From their website, Agra look like exactly the sort of place I'm trying to find... Will Star tackle Haltech 350Z ECU's then? Interesting. I had them plugged as pretty a VAG specialist... Intrigued about your Dastek comment though. I had experience with them a number of years ago and they seemed like a pretty reasonable setup. Can you divulge? By PM perhaps? Thanks again, have an ebeer! Doug
  7. Woohoo... Cheers mate! You have a PM...! Doug
  8. Sorry for the double post, but I've started a new thread asking about machine shops as I though it would be more appropriate in another section: http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=22537 Mods: please feel free to adjust my posts if I'm putting them in the wrong places etc... Cheers, Doug :bye:
  9. Hey folks, Probably a better place to ask the question than in the intro's section... It doesn't have to be in Scotland, but obviously it would be more convenient the closer it is... Any experiences or advice would be much appreciated as it will help me decide a) which route to take the mods and which car to buy in the first place! All help appreciated! Cheers, Doug
  10. Cheers guys... You do realise of course, most of the population of the North of England are honourary Scots anyway... Ding ding! Round 2!
  11. Thanks lads... Heh heh... Funny you should mention ZMANALEX... I'd already had an idea to speak to him as I've been lurking on here for a while, but I thought it better manners to come and introduce myself before pestering individuals! (Funny how you can be lurking so long, you recognise all the names and forget that people have no idea who you are when you finally come to post... ) So ZMAN, if you're out there and you're reading this, please let me know where you get your engine work done! Cheers, Doug
  12. Hi guys, Hopefully by Christmas time, I'll be able to join the exalted ranks of Z owners! So I'm on here to do some pre-purchase research. Principle choice is whether to go for the DE or the HR. I know there's a lot of money involved in the later model, but it would mainly depend on one thing... Can anyone recommend a machine shop in or around Scotland which would be able to cope with boring cylinders, installing sleeves, machining heads and that sort of thing? I've been looking around various places on the net and can't find any recommendations for garages who've worked on Z's. I've got some relatively extensive plans already with various options (some mutually exclusive), but I don't have the necessary contacts for machining etc, and I'm determined not to go into this with my eyes shut. There are a lot of different directions to take when modifying and I have some theories I'd like to put into practice, but obviously there's no point in buying a stroker kit or a particular ECU if there's no-one around who can be trusted to carry out the work to a decent standard... Nice speaking to you all, Doug
