Hi guys, Im posting this as a last resort as Iam really losing heart in my zed.. Hopefully someone somewhere can shed some light on this for me...... The bcm on my JDM Zed failed about 13 weeks ago and the car has been in at Nissan for 12 of these weeks. Firstly they have replaced the bcm unit and re-coded the car, I thought this would be the end of my problems, but this only seemed to be the start of them.... Everytime they programme the nats code into the car, it will start and drive no problem, then they can go back after half an hour or so and the car will still start fine. But after a couple of hours, the car will crank but not start. They then link the car up to the machine, and it is showing as not recognising a key This is really stressing me out..!! The car is fitted with an aftermarket Toad alarm and immobiliser, Im not sure if this is having some sort of effect as it seems to be happening once I have locked and unlocked the car using the toad key fob...... Im just hoping that someone has had similar problem and can shed some light on this, as I'd love to get my car back......

The garage tried swapping a chip in the key over last night and coded it in before they left for the night. The car was still fine this morning, until mid afternoon, then it all of a sudden didnt recognise the key again... Could it be a faulty bcm unit...? I wouldnt have though that as it is storing the fault codes, but its really stressing me out..!! Thanks for your help so far though Lee

Hi Lee, Yes, its a new one from Japan, and it is my local nissan dealer who is coding it. They have coded it a few times now and it works perfectly for a couple of hours then kicks the code out...

Hi Guys, Im posting this in the vague hope that someone may have had this problem before, as Im really starting to lose faith in my zed..... I have a 2003 fairlady zed which I bought from a small garage at the end of March. Had 5 weeks of fairly trouble free motoring, then all of a sudden the car wouldnt start. I had the problem diagnosed as the bcm unit which has since been replaced, but my problem now is that it seems that the key wont keep its code. The Nats code was programmed in last night, and the car has sat all night and most of today, getting checked regularly, all working fine, then all of a sudden it is not recognising the key. It is throwing up a fault code saying that it is not recognising a key.... Has anyone had this problem before or can shed any light of what it could be please...? ZManAlex has been helping me on this one, but I cant get a hold of him today This is the 12th week of the car being off the road, and its really strting to get me down.....

Nice one Stew, your a brave man...... Glad to see you and the car made it round unscathed. Alex took me round Knockhill for the first time on Thursday, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, nothing much was able to keep up with his monster In saying that though, I dont think I have the confidence to take my car round, I feel I would be far too slow when you see the pace of some of the cars out there....

You certainly know how to peddle that car and I must say it was flying The car is a credit to you mate I will be through soon for some more laps, and hopefully remember to get a band next time Oh, and by the way, I think you have convinced the missus to go round for a couple of pax laps next time .....

Damn, dont like I will make it through tonight, would love a whirl in the zed too...... I must say, it looked damn fast, even in the wet..!!

Oh well, just got home and tried resetting the ecu, and it still wont start..!! On closer inspection, I have noticed that when im trying to start the car, the lights are automatically coming on, and the window wipers and electric windows are not working. The car is cranking, but wont seem to fire up. I take it these are classic signs of the BCM..? Im so bloomin annoyed right now

Unfortunately no Chris, It was purchased through an independant garage, but thanks for the offer Will try to reset the ecu tonight, then if that dont work will have to phone the garage..... I take it the BCM is classed as an electrical component....? Also, Does Alex have his own garage in Perth...?

I was looking this morning, and I thought it sounded like the BCM myself. £800+VAT.... Oh god...... I only bought the car 2 months ago and have a 6 month warranty on it, so hopefully it will cover this.... Its Guaranteed to not be covered though.....

Hi Guys, hopefully someone can help me out here, as my wife's zed is really starting to stress me out. It seems to be one thing after another with it..... She has a 52 plate JDM, which has had a few problems recently, another one has occured last night. Car has been running fine until she decided to wash it last night, after she finished washing it, the car wouldnt fire up. I was out the house at this time, so by the time I got home she had more or less flattened the battery trying to start it. I couldnt hear the fuel pump priming, so I checked the fuses in the drivers footwell and there seemed to be some water in there, I then pushed the car in the garage, put the battery on charge and tried to dry the fuses as best as I can.... Now, when I have tried to start the car this morning, I can hear the fuel pump priming, but there is absolutely nothing, it wont even try to fire up. Has anyone had any problems like this before, or can anyone give me any advice on something it could be...? Or does anyone know of any nissan specialists around the Dundee area....? Thanks a lot guys.......

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, I have just finished putting the dash back together but it aint solved my problem unfortunately, Im starting to pull out what hair I have left..... Can anyone please give me any other possible reasons why my speakers have stopped working completely..? I have checked connections at the back of the unit, and checked related fuses, but everything seems to be fine. Can there be any reason why these aint working..? Please help.....

Thanks guys, Ive had a look at the guide and it doesnt seem to bad a job, so I will just give that a go. I cant seem to get the plastic trim around the fascia out, it seems clipped (Bolted?) in somewhere and is just too tight. Therefore I cant get to the tabs for the headunit. Like I say, im hoping a connector has just fallen out the back of the unit, and thats the problem. Would there be any other causes of the sound disappering..? The headunit itself is still working fine.

Would I then be right in saying that even an aftermarket headunit is screwed in behind the dash panels in the same way the standard unit is...? That would explain why I couldnt get the thing to move..... Oh, and cheers to the "Expert" from my local Halfrauds who told me that the facia will just pull straight out, useless git.....

Hi Guys, hopefully some of you can help me with a small problem I have...... In my wifes recently acquired zed (2003 Fairlady) is an Alpine Sat nav/dvd player, she has had the car for about 4 weeks now and everything has been fine, until earlier on today that is.... She was on her way to work and turned one of the heater control dials, and all sound has now gone from the stereo, sat nav,radio etc. I have checked all the simple things like its not muted etc, and have came to the conclusion that a wire must have popped out the back of the headunit. Now lies my problem.... I have changed plenty of head units in my time, but for some reason cannot seem to get this one out. Can someone please give me advice on how to get the stereo out, before frustration really kicks in..? Thanks in advance guys....

Thanks for the fast reply guys. My car is definately an import, it was just the model I was having a problem with. All imports being fairladys is good news for me though, the problem I had was that the insurance company could give me a quote for a fairlady, but told me that if it wasnt a fairlady and a "Normal nissan 350z" import, then they would have to refer it to the underwriters and to expect a hefty quote. I think the insurance company are getting themselves confused to be honest, either that or they dont know what they are talking about.

Hi guys, Im new to the scene here, so if this is a stupid question, then I apologise...... Iam due to take delivery of my wifes 52 plate 350Z in the next week or so, but im having a bit of a problem with insurance, as in they are asking if my 350z is a fairlady or a normal 350z import. I have done an hpi check, and checked the logbook, and there is no mention of fairlady, there is nothing shown in the model box, its only indicated as a nissan. I spoke to sky insurance yesterday and they told me that all import 350z are fairladys, but other insurance companies are questioning this. Can someone please clarify this for me, as its starting to stress me out....
