Hi guys, Im posting this as a last resort as Iam really losing heart in my zed.. Hopefully someone somewhere can shed some light on this for me...... The bcm on my JDM Zed failed about 13 weeks ago and the car has been in at Nissan for 12 of these weeks. Firstly they have replaced the bcm unit and re-coded the car, I thought this would be the end of my problems, but this only seemed to be the start of them.... Everytime they programme the nats code into the car, it will start and drive no problem, then they can go back after half an hour or so and the car will still start fine. But after a couple of hours, the car will crank but not start. They then link the car up to the machine, and it is showing as not recognising a key This is really stressing me out..!! The car is fitted with an aftermarket Toad alarm and immobiliser, Im not sure if this is having some sort of effect as it seems to be happening once I have locked and unlocked the car using the toad key fob...... Im just hoping that someone has had similar problem and can shed some light on this, as I'd love to get my car back......

The garage tried swapping a chip in the key over last night and coded it in before they left for the night. The car was still fine this morning, until mid afternoon, then it all of a sudden didnt recognise the key again... Could it be a faulty bcm unit...? I wouldnt have though that as it is storing the fault codes, but its really stressing me out..!! Thanks for your help so far though Lee

Hi Lee, Yes, its a new one from Japan, and it is my local nissan dealer who is coding it. They have coded it a few times now and it works perfectly for a couple of hours then kicks the code out...

Hi Guys, Im posting this in the vague hope that someone may have had this problem before, as Im really starting to lose faith in my zed..... I have a 2003 fairlady zed which I bought from a small garage at the end of March. Had 5 weeks of fairly trouble free motoring, then all of a sudden the car wouldnt start. I had the problem diagnosed as the bcm unit which has since been replaced, but my problem now is that it seems that the key wont keep its code. The Nats code was programmed in last night, and the car has sat all night and most of today, getting checked regularly, all working fine, then all of a sudden it is not recognising the key. It is throwing up a fault code saying that it is not recognising a key.... Has anyone had this problem before or can shed any light of what it could be please...? ZManAlex has been helping me on this one, but I cant get a hold of him today This is the 12th week of the car being off the road, and its really strting to get me down.....

Nice one Stew, your a brave man...... Glad to see you and the car made it round unscathed. Alex took me round Knockhill for the first time on Thursday, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, nothing much was able to keep up with his monster In saying that though, I dont think I have the confidence to take my car round, I feel I would be far too slow when you see the pace of some of the cars out there....

You certainly know how to peddle that car and I must say it was flying The car is a credit to you mate I will be through soon for some more laps, and hopefully remember to get a band next time Oh, and by the way, I think you have convinced the missus to go round for a couple of pax laps next time .....

Damn, dont like I will make it through tonight, would love a whirl in the zed too...... I must say, it looked damn fast, even in the wet..!!

Oh well, just got home and tried resetting the ecu, and it still wont start..!! On closer inspection, I have noticed that when im trying to start the car, the lights are automatically coming on, and the window wipers and electric windows are not working. The car is cranking, but wont seem to fire up. I take it these are classic signs of the BCM..? Im so bloomin annoyed right now

Thanks for that link Beavis, I hope to god it is a case of a simple ecu reset... Cheers Fiddy, I will try resetting the ECU tonight, if I have no joy then an email will be winging its way to Alex....
