  1. Only really in the last couple of years I've discovered some of the genius of film scores.

Hans Zimmer (BB/Dark Knight), Rob Dougan (Matrix), Eric Serra (Leon, 5th Element) and possibly the king Thomas Newman (American Beauty, Shawshank, Meet Joe Black etc)

If you're in the mood for it they are some of the most powerful stuff you will ever hear. Then again I've always been a little nuts - I've always seen my life like a film so these tunes are perfect!:lol:

  2. That's some seriously bad luck there mate! How about you avoid rent by moving into the Zed?!

But seriously don't panic. I was out of work all last summer after getting laid-off. It turned out to actually help me, making me much more aware of how to save money, how much I was wasting and generally streamlining my life.

I also found out what I could claim for off the council - which turned out to be both Housing Benefit (to help my rent) and Job Seekers Allowance.

My bills were reduced because you don't pay council tax and after cutting back a bit (selling any extra crap on ebay, reducing my bills etc) I could get by ok.

I also rediscovered my mountain bike which not only saved me mucho petrol money but kept me fit. I kept my car all this time - only using it a couple of times a week to keep it running ok.

I eventually got a new job, much better paid than before and thanks to all the money saving and selling I was doing I was living a much more uncluttered happier life than before!

You'll be ok mate - dont worry.

Plus you'll be able to Polish the Zed everyday!

  3. Whereabouts in Cyprus are you?

I was over there a few weeks ago and yep it was hot as hell during the day!

The roads are godawful too once off the main routes. You're probably best without the Zed! Our hire car looked like it had done the Paris - Dakar after a couple of miles.

I did see a lot of hayabusas about though. They must be brave on those roads!

  4. By the way, it looks great in the metal (I was at Gaydon last week so saw all the Astons in the car park)

Oh yes. Have you been in the shared training centre at Gaydon? I over a couple of weeks ago and peeked behind a divider in the main Land Rover showroom bit to find 30 or 40 Astons parked up in storage all sparkly. DBS, DB9, Vantage, everything. :notworthy:B)

Me and the guys there were gobsmacked.

I would have taken a picture but would probably have been fired there and then!

  5. Went out with the lads friday night as my pregnant missus was having a girlie curry nite with her sisters.

Daft lad 'me' went from having a couple of quiet beers in the local boozer to going in to town ending up in a strip club and getting kicked out there at 4am and then ending up at a party at some birds house i didnt even know. :drunk:

Rolled in sheepishly at 8am saturday morning with a sausage and egg mcmuffin. Slept till 6pm and now its 3:30 am and im wide awake.

Oh and the missus aint too happy with me either

How am I gonna smooth this one out ?????

Was she annoyed she didn't get a Sausage and Egg McMuffin too?!

  6. Anytime she is thinking about going for a drive in it you just make up a technical sounding problem with it.

"Ooh sorry, I'd love to let you take out the Zed but the rear differential flux diffuser has just packed up and I'm waiting for parts from Japan"

    Most women will

    a. not have a clue and

    b. Be awed by your manly car knowledge!

   ;)

  7. So the Zed is sold. :byebye:

but as some of you know... I'm off around the world :yahoo: . The date keeps getting put back but here's the semi-booked trip:

I start off flying through Dubai into China, then travel a few hours to the mountains where myself and a couple of other brave (stupid) westerners will be spending a month with the Orange robed types training in Shaolin and other Kung-Fu styles. :boxing:

When I've finished I have about a week free in China. I was thinking of Hong Kong (but I'd love to see X'ian etc)

From HK (or wherever) it's onto Hanoi - Vietnam. I'll be taking a junk boat around Halong bay etc then heading down the coast to see Hue and onto Ho Chi Minh (Saigon).

From Vietnam I'm heading up the Mekong river, floating Markets etc and onto Cambodia to get my Indiana Jones on at Angkor (Which looks incredible - anyone been?). After Cambodia it's onto Bangkok and Thailand. I HAVE to see a Full Moon party here cus they are legendary so I'll be bouncing down to KohphaNgen island to party and do beaches! :drunk:

After Thailand I have a gap, I might fly straight across the Pacific to catch up with my mates Stateside or head down to Singapore etc.

One way or another it's West Coast USA/Canada seeing mates from my last trip. L.A, San Fran, Seattle maybe?

Finally I'll be making my way across the states to Miami (I always have to hit Miami !) and New York, maybe Toronto before heading home.

I'm not just saying all this to show off! I was wondering if anyone has any experiences or must see recommendations for any of these places?

I don't have endless funds or time but I have quite a bit of flexibility at this point so would love to hear peoples thoughts.

  8. perhaps someone could organise a tour of the Design studio at Whitley or G-deck for those who don't have business with JLR ? ;)

How about a run down past Stratford or into the cotswolds? :drive1

Eh. have I missed something? Am I working with a bunch of Zedders and didn't know it?! :scare:

I'm based at Gaydon - are other guys from JLR here too?

  9. I know this is a longshot, but would you consider £8k cash, or 7k cash and a lovely MR2 Turbo?

I think the idea is he hasnt got anywhere to keep the car while hes on holiday so what would he do with another car? ;)

Sorry I've been off for a while. Thanks but I don't really want another car - as said it kinda defeats the point!

8K cash isn't far off but it is very cheap already. If you want to come and have a looky you're more than welcome. Maybe this weekend if it's still available. Drop me a PM

I'm going to be starting in China for a month where I'll be checking out some traditional Kung Fu training (people know I'm into martial arts!)

Sorry for off topic, but I dunno if you've seen the film "Ip Man" with Donnie Yen, i thought it was a good film and Donnie does Wing Chun great justice (I'm sure a martial artist can prolly pick out some technical flaws, but one has to remember that this is martial arts for the screen), his hand speed is brilliant in some scenes. Film was released in Asia in 2008, I think the film is getting a release over here later this year.

I'll have to check that one out. I've never done much Wing Chun but I have a couple of mates that have and it's impressive when done right.

In China I'll be doing more traditional Shaolin stuff. I'm actually bricking it a bit cus it's gonna be seriously hard! Although at least when I come back I'll be able to break iron bars over my head and stuff!

  10. In light of my other topic- viewtopic.php?f=56&t=25388

  11. Some of you may have noticed I've been absent from here for a while! Well as usual life has thrown me a few crazy curveballs and hopefully an amazing opportunity.

Thanks to some old friends I've been offered an incredible round-the-world trip on the cheap! :yahoo:

I'm going to be starting in China for a month where I'll be checking out some traditional Kung Fu training (people know I'm into martial arts!) as well as the usual big cities - Beijing, Hong Kong etc then I'm spending time in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand etc, from there across the Pacific islands making my way eventually across Canada and the USA. :bounce:

Why am I telling you all this? Well as much as it pains me (and it really does) the Zed isn't going to be much use to me in the Jungles of South East Asia! and the cash from it will help me no-end. So it's got to go. :byebye:

This is genuinely one of the most painful experiences ever. I've loved Zeds since I first saw them and getting one I was so chuffed at how stunning it looks, how great it feels to drive and how much performance it has. Although I've had it barely 2 months it's easily my favourite car I've ever owned. It's hard for me to admit but cars come and go - a chance like this to see the world just can't be passed up. I guess sometimes life goes in ways you can't predict!

On a side note this forum and it's members have been awesome so I will try and keep in touch and annoy people with my usual Star Wars references. ;)

  12. It really depends how much time and how anal you want to be about it all.

You don't have to clay it everytime, in fact you don't have to do most of it everytime but a full, thorough wash/clay/wax/seal every now and then will make the quick ones in between much easier and much more effective.

I personally seem to have received that little Autoglym pack (with 6 small bottles of different stuff) for every birthday since I owned a car! Hence I use the Super Resin Polish, Extra gloss sealant etc and it's pretty good stuff if you want to try the different products for under a tenner.
