  1. You're right, the loose ribbon cable only causes left speaker issues when playing CDs.

Sounds like the Bose boot amp is dodgy or the wiring to it. Is the amp servicable, i.e. can you take it apart and check it's getting a signal from the HU?

Could still be something inside the head unit I guess. Haven't seen anyone complaining of total amp failure before!

  2. im thinking that the tape hack may be worth trying...will it work ok on the none bose head unit?

It sounds great and worth trying if you're handy with a soldering iron

I've done the mod on my non-Bose branded head unit. It's 99% identical to the Bose version because they're both made by Clarion! The non-Bose just has an internal amp at the back where the Bose has an external amp. The tape unit that you tap into is identical.

  3. Front speakers are actually decent, rears are poor but you don't want tons of sound coming from behind you anyway.

Limited EQ of the head unit is mainly to blame. Do the "Tape Deck Hack" to add an aux line-in... Most people are blown away by how much better it sounds than CD!

  4. Well my Toyosports looks almost new after 18 months and 2 winters. The sounds gets better and better all the time as well.

I've said on previous threads the fit isn't perfect and you'll probably have to spend £100 for a specialist to fit and tweak it a bit. If you want an exhaust that fits perfectly and has a warranty you've got to spend double.

  5. Nexen beating brands such as Falken, Yokohama and Toyo, and a disappointing result for both Vredestein and Avon, in 22nd and 33rd respectively

But forum "experts" tell us Vredestein are far superior to cheap brands like Falken, Hankook, Nokian, Kumho...

  6. Neuton are a brand of YHI International, an Asian distributor of Yokohama, Pirelli, Enkei, OZ. They also supplied wheels to the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team. The tyres are almost certainly made by Yokohama in Indonesia.

I love how many above automatically trashed them as a budget brand... On the other hand Vredestein are praised to the skies when they're owned by Indian budget tyre maker Apollo.

  7. Latest list on the Bury site: http://www.bury.com/cms/fileadmin/downloads/compatibility_lists/EN/Adapter-BT_Compatibility_list_EN.pdf

Here are some recent phones on the list you can actually still buy...

    Apple iPhone 4/4S

    Blackberry 9300/9360/9700/9780/9800/9860/9900

    HTC Desire S/Evo 3D/Incredible S/Sensation

    LG Optimus 2X

Nokia C2/C3/C6/E5/E7/X7 (All Symbian-based, not Windows-based Lumia models)

    Samsung Galaxy Ace/Galaxy SII

    Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc/X8/X10

Unlikely to have problems with Android/iOS/Blackberry but no Windows Phone 7 devices are listed and owners have reported issues.

  8. I think there's an underlying problem in some 350'z enginieering that can make them suffer from this.

Basically the 350Z has no cold air ducting to the front discs from either the front bumper or from underneath. Odd decision because it's a heavy car and even a Nissan Almera has ducting to the front discs. Maybe have been aerodynamic reasons.

A couple of stops from motorway speeds are all it takes to get the discs and fluid piping hot.

  9. Will probably get worse over time as new phones are using the latest versions of Bluetooth while the adaptor dates back to 2002/2003. Some sort of third-party hands-free (Parrot?) is probably the only solution.

Windows Phone 7 is not a big seller (yet) so there's greater chance of having issues that won't be fixed.

  10. Personally id have thought that as technology improved over the years that newer diesel engines would have been more efficient and therefore get better mpg, not worse!

The 1.5 diesel is an old Renault unit dating back to 2001 ;) I thought I read recently it was being replaced but I guess not.

  11. In 2009 at least, there were 3 levels of warranty with the cover and claim limit dropping off with age and mileage. Even the top level for 3-5 year old cars excluded a ton of factory items (battery, clutch, exhaust, wheels...). Worth getting one thrown in when you buy from a main dealer (saved me the price of a new window motor) but not worth paying extra for, especially on a 350.

Im pretty sure the Nissan extended warranty is £70 a month, i had the renewal come through a few weeks back.

£840 a year and the claim limit might only be £1k... Why bother?

  12. Win7 took me 20mins to install  (having it on USB stick makes it soooo much quicker)

*nix variants are great if you like to dabble in things or want something very simple for web browsing, but dont think they are yet up there with Windows in terms of plug and play are they? Havent played with them for years, might download some live CDs (or whatever the USB stick term is for them now) and have a play.

Well it certainly felt like 2 hours after installing Office as well and that was from a USB stick! Generally Linux sets up new hardware silently in a few seconds... Windows turns plugging in just a mouse or USB stick into a pantomime of pop-ups.

Don't get me wrong, Windows 7 is the best version yet but the old problems remain... Speed/Stability drops over time, random issues only solved by a reboot, Rootkits, etc...

My solution is to have a work-only Windows laptop that's kept as clean and simple as possible, while a Linux nettop handles surfing, video, torrents, etc...

  13. Rich you can download Ubuntu for free and legal and put it on disc or usb stick and make it bootable so your windows set up is intact and you can try it out.

+1. Linux has improved considerablly in the last few years thanks to Ubuntu. Runs fast on a 5 year old machine even booting off a USB stick (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/). Also installs in 10 minutes rather than the 2 hours that Windows 7 takes.

Most hardware works out of the box, although the odd sound/wi-fi card and webcam might require tinkering or not work at all.

Perfect for a web browsing machine (no more spyware or viruses) but commercial software is lacking (Office, Photoshop, etc) and free alternatives are still pretty rough.
