  1. Most 350's are still losing £2k of value a year which is the biggest cost.

Still bollox paying as much as £475 a year for a car you might use once a week, that's over £9 each time you drive it.

Might as well scrap road tax and increase fuel duty... Far fairer and linked to the amount you actually pollute.

  2. I'm running these on stock alloys and they're a bit soft for the standard 45 aspect ratio. They need higher pressures than Bridgestones (~38psi) and even then the fronts can get a bit wobbly under the weight.

Traction control rarely sees any action now and they have a slow/predictable break-away in the wet... Better than tyres that send you into a hedge without warning at 10mph faster!

Ride is smoother/quieter and wear is looking good as well, should last 20k miles.

  3. The VQ engine is a dead duck and being replaced by Merc engines... Massively cleaner V6s with barely half the CO2 output.

It depends how well the Infiniti G series is doing in the US and what they do with that. The 350/370 only exist off the back of that platform.

  4. The 1st series of Friends is actually very good but the writing took a nose dive once it became a hit.

Seinfeld and The Larry Sanders Show are the kings of 90s US comedy but in the UK they were shown after midnight on BBC2

  5. I know what you mean. mine is the same. not awful just not what I would expect from a modern six cylinder engine.

The pre-2006 DE engine dates back to 1994 and was never intended for high-revving sports cars... Torque drops like a stone above 5.5k rpm. Later engines are better but they can't hide the original design/purpose.

  6. As an aside, most of the problems from playing tapes are a result of the sound being recorded onto the tape, and then the deck heads picking the sound up off the tape - whereas adapters cut out the tape middle man so to speak, so they're actually a lot better.

Not really. Old Nakamichi tape decks are capable of incredible sound even with cheap tapes but good heads cost a fortune. In-car decks and tape adapters have cheapo heads that can't deliver bass or high-frequencies without distorting. That's why they'll always struggle to match even FM.

The aux line-in hack bypasses the head and pipes sound straight into the amp, hence it sounds miles better. I can crank the EQ and volume on my MP3 player to almost maximum without distortion.

  7. I did the aux line-in hack with a 99p cable and bought an old Sandisk MP3 player for £5 :p

Sound through cheap tape heads will never be as good and pumping up the EQ will likely cause overload/distortion.

An interesting concept for old/classic cars where you have no other option.

  8. Tell me about it, having a nightmare with the bigger engined stuff because of this sort of thing.

The 370Z kept the filthy old VQ engine that should have been pensioned off years ago and puts out ~250g/km CO2.

Mercedes latest V6s (which the next Z is supposed to be using) put out ~160g/km which means £165 road tax (first year and ongoing).

  9. As already said, a Volvo main dealer can't put a high mileage 8 year old Nissan on the forecourt so it'll go straight to auction. Hence he's offered well below trade so you'll either:

    1. Be so disgusted you sell privately and save him the effort

    2. Go for it out of laziness, in which case he still makes a grand off it at auction

  10. Oh no, a massively under-rated car! Most magazines rated the handling as second only to the 306 GTI-6.

Out of the 2,400 sold, 800 are still on the road despite being 12-16 years old... Although 220 were scrapped 2010-2011.

My brother sold my old GTi on eBay very quickly. Went to someone on the Almera forum.
