  1. Thanks Steve, I got aero sorted long ago. Bgw, front splitter and front canards but will do a proper splitter like the one abbey did for you. Could consider flat underfloor if I end up stripping the bottom and other stuff like side exhaust etc. all comes down to cash.

I have just made a big purchase so I have to count the pennies but I'm meeting with my raceshop to plan how we'd stage the work and if I can get decent costing and staged payment I may go for it and build the car over months.

Have you got recent pics of your baby?

  2. Bennet: if theres a few of us up for it I have some contacts in plastic factory so could easily get a batch routed out but Id need some glass to get a template...... Lexan isnt expensive :) are you worried about the black border? Im not personally...

What are these patent front fenders?!

If youre at 1380 with fuel and driver I will ptobably get under my goal as i dont have sc or anything to worry about :D

    Are you saying I'm fat!!!!!

Not really fussed I just want it to fit ok. The black borders are nice but not a deal breaker. I could send my glass out but that will end in tears. If you are coming my way with the van I can give you both rear glass and quarters.

Aftermarket fenders. I got one from eBay after my Ring kiss on the driver side. Cost about £70 but got it for £50. Fits ok with tweaking but you need to transfer the inner part from the OEM onto it. Easy. I just drooled or two rivets and put the back on. It's is paper thin steel and weighs nothing. I was concerned but when it's all bolted up its solid. I wish the rear quarter was removable. Shame I didn't weigh it but OEM is very heavy. Might even be more than 3 times heavier. Note it doesn't come with the side repeater slot but that's easy to cut out.

Test fit pic. Still in primer.

eBay link. Not the exact seller but similar. Think they are made in Taiwan or China.

  3. Any other ideas to loose weight without breaking the bank?

    Exercise and less McDonalds. :stir::lol:

    lol I suffer this issue.

The most weight saving is as you say

    Tar

    Doors

    Boot

    Seats

Then you can start removing interior, aircon (both unit and belts and pipes)

some light weight wheels work well too - then i think most time left will be driver and power :)

Ignore Haydn! He is just malnourished and envious !

I'm already fully stripped interior a year ago and have seats and sporting the 18" Rays.

I'm just about were you are except for cage and CF door and boot. (I've got a vented CF bonnet) hence why I asked about your cars weight just to see where I'm going and if I should bite the bullet and get that under body stripped too.

I forget I'll be putting some weight on re installs the supercharger kit but I'll take the AC off. Did it the first time but could std the heat drive the car on the road but it's going to be trailer to the track so it can go on eBay!

  4. Thanks for all the feedback so far lads I'm surprised of some much interest and contribution. Keep it coming. I'll do my best to response or throw more questions out there and certainly begin to record weights to help others who want to go this route.

@fake ben: I'd be interested in the non thermoformed lexan for the rear hatch and quarter Windows provided you cut it and finish it. You know my address!!! I saw this option with the US guys to save money but I wasn't going to mess with it as I'm very impatient with stuff like that.

  5. Only issue for me with lexan side windows is security. My zed does still see about 1k miles a year on the road and sliders in side windows could be a security issue? Rear quarters and tailgate glass no issues there.

I have managed to get the side glass to seal quite well even with the doors gutted but I'm not so sure about lexan? Its not a major issue but i doubt they will be water tight.

difficult to steal a car with no steering wheel though your right it is still a risk.

Lexan is fairly easy to maintain but it does get scratched, if you need help with the windows let me know, the curved aspect of the glass is a pain. Also wet carbon on the doors and the rear hatch is well worth it. not so much the bonnet and the wings tho as you say. Great to see you going down this road m8 :)

Hey Steve so good of you to chime in! How are things your end? Still running the old girl? I way always going this route but it was a staged progression.

Any help would be appreciated. Pm any details. Yeah I saw the margard treated ones but that's pricey. I don't have sponsors you know

I'll really like to get CF doors and hatch but put of by the price. I think de-skinning the hatch will save weight and so is the door. There about 10-15 kg you can take off each door!

What was your zeds final weight? I'm down at 1380kg with just under a quarter tank of fuel and driver. Cage will change that but I'm removing the rear strut brace for a CDS tube and the subwoofer panel strict to offset some of the weight. All will punch large holes in the interior skin where possible and remove extra seam sealant. The only major weight is all the tar under the car body. I wish I could do it but labour of stripping is so expensive. If I had the space I'd do the full strip, send the car in for the cage and custom work and then off for full chemical or shot blasting strip, rust coating/primer and paint.

The patent front fenders are 3/4 lighter than OEM so I will get one for the passenger side to match the DS.

Any other ideas to loose weight without breaking the bank?

  6. I didn't want to say anything before, but now that a sale has been made to someone who has a full roll cage... if you fit these to a car without a roll cage, aren't you removing a crumple zone?

BTW, What are the other 6 struts ZMan mentions? I think there's 3 underneath, front and rear suspension top struts plus something else?

No my friend the crumple zone is at the front chassis leg. If you look at it with your front bumper and radiator support removed you will see the engineered crumple.

See GT spec list here. The roadster will definately benefit.

    How your car coming along?

  7. Correct Dan. Just windows, quarter Windows and rear hatch window. I'm not bothered with impact rigidity as I'm having a full FIA spec cage.

thanks for the assurances too. I may just go with the colour(Grey) one for a bit of glare protection.

I'm loosing all the front rad support and gubbins to a lightweight tubular frame to hang off the rad, intercooler and oil cooler and front splitter. Also it allow me to run a custom shorter 3" vortech intercooler set up and make the front bumper removable with 4 quick clips.

What I'd really love to do is a full strip of the entire underbody but I don't have the garage to DIY and save cost. Need to speak with Darren or Trigg

  8. Finally my zed is going in for its final stage of transformation into a track only car and I'm hell bent on saving as much weight as I can where possible and reasonably. I refuse to buy CF doors or rear hatch as wet CF is not much lighter than OEM aluminum and dry CF is ludicrously expensive. In fact even wet CF is bloody pricey. I'l de skin the hatch and gut the door full including cutting of the heavy transverse crash bar.

Here is the best results of my uk search to share with those here that are on a similar journey. Fake ben Taylor, Djtimo just to name a few. These guys supply Nismo UK and JRM so should be quality.

I think I'll get the windows first before braving by rear hatch.

I'm also checking for prices in the US and if it makes sense to order everything in one go and multiple orders then will put up a GB of 3-5pips seeing this is not for everyone.

If any one can share any experience with maintaining lexan please share. I'm concerned about scratching but wondering if the hard coating is worth it. I'm thinking tint film may be more protective and cheaper.

  9. Ewen, Nice to know you have this contacts. I emailed Yokiko back and forth a few times as I was looking for a true front and rear coilover Siper racing set up with EDFC active and it was very tedium going back and forth. She finally told me she could get me a used custom set like that from Japan but never followed up with prices etc.

I would be going with custom OEM style KW 2-way competition setup after I get all the corner weights when the cage and custom job is completed.

However I would still consider a custom Tein super racing as I loved the EDFC and must be even better with the active/GPS. Could you get me some quotes etc. The KW are surpringly not as expensive as you'd think( just above the clubsports) and they provide life technical support.

Hope you are getting my last order sorted👀

  10. Get the Tein Monosport which is the replacement. The Spring rates for the Uk/Europe market are less aggressive but you can opt for higher if you buy from Tein directly. I take it you track you car. If it's just DD/fast road then the std offering is perfect.

  11. That^^^^^^

I don't know why some pips look down on the OE disc. They are made with superior steel than most of the fancy rubbish with groves, slots or cross drilled bandied around. Paired with good pads for your appilcation +/- better fluid and ss lines they will do the job.

Pagid also makes OE spec disc and these are similarly priced in ECP.

  12. Gutted about this news mate. You really did look after her and don't think it's anything to do with you. Almost all built VQ failures seem to be bearing related and I read tons and tons and could come up with the best answer so let my builder decide.

An engine damper is a good investment and definitely a new oil pump. The Revup oil pump is an adequate upgrade so no need to spend more on the cossie pump. I hope for you it's just new bearings, machine work and new rings and gasket and job done. I will sound out as much advice about bearing clearances before the rebuild.

I think an engine swap is a bigger risk and the grass seems greener on the other side. Good luck mate.

  13. It's time to part this it as I'm swapping my OEM mirrors forF1/GP racing mirrors. I think they were £45 new and so will take £35 delivered.

The hardware is complete and will pm the fitting instruction from flyboy or look on here for a fitting guide.
