benjy88 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 So.... over recent months I've started to accumulate a lot of aftermarket bits and pieces for my car, including samco hoses, HFCs, and lots more... Unfortunately I am pretty busy (workwise) and generally don't have much time to fit them. So I'm now at work thinking, it's a bit quiet today, I might pop the new Carbon Fibre engine bay cover on the old orange Datsun. But NO I forgot the damn strut brace is in the way... And now I'm annoyed, and it goes back on the pile of bits waiting to be fitted. I'm not asking for any advice. I'm just pi$$ed off lol. Does anyone else have this trouble (big pile of parts, no time to fit them) ? Quote
glrnet Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 You need to change your signature mate. "So much to fit, so little time" 1 Quote
GMballistic Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Benjy it's not easy but I managed to remove and refit my engine cover with the brace still in situ. The two nuts at the front are easy and the bolt on the drivers side is accessible so it's really only the one on the passengers side that will cause you any grief. I used a long 10mm ring spanner which I was able to get at the bolt with & slowly remove it. Hopefully soon I'm going to be getting a CF engine cover for my Zed and I'm not planning on removing the brace to fit it, ...no way jose. 1 Quote
benjy88 Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 I like your thinking Smurf... Ballistic - Unfortunately, I have a plenum spacer on, so it's a WEE bit tight... Quote
GMballistic Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I like your thinking Smurf... Ballistic - Unfortunately, I have a plenum spacer on, so it's a WEE bit tight... So do I. I just used this... Took a while, turning it out and I had to manipulate the bolt to get it out but worked a treat. I did it when I painted my plenum in situ and yes I like making things difficult for myself sometimes. benjy88 Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 How.... HOW!!!!! I could barely get the bloody Drivers' side one out from under the strut! You, Sir, are an evil genius. Quote
GMballistic Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) How.... HOW!!!!! I could barely get the bloody Drivers' side one out from under the strut! You, Sir, are an evil genius. Wound them out a bit with the ring spanner then used the tips of my fingers like mini mole grips to unwind them the rest of the way out. If you have fingers like sausages though you are screwed I'm afraid. Edited October 26, 2014 by GMballistic Quote
benjy88 Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 It gets worse. I've just gone out to my car to have another look - to find that some FCUKING W@NKER has scratched my passenger-side door.... What the hell is wrong with people. So upset. Quote

Sorry to read that, ...wtf is wrong with some people. Is it deep or do you think some Megs Scratch X or similar will be able to polish it out? Quote
benjy88 Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 Nope, proper deep, right through the paintwork... and dented it. About 4 inches worth of damage. Fuming doesn't describe it... Quote
