Faulty Oil Temp Gauge?

I have never had an oil temp gauge in a car before so please excuse my ignorance. I would expect it to start off on 0 and then climb as the oil heats up.

Mine goes straight to 3/4 on the dial when I first start her up and then slowly comes down to 1/3 on the dial and pulses up to mid way when I accelerate.

After about 10 mins of driving it stays around the half way / 3/4 mark.

???

The 70 has an oil temp gauge instead of pressure. Not sure why they swapped it out.

I read that manufacturers said that the pressure gauges were causing unwarranted concerns from customers that couldn't read them correctly and the oil temp is simpler for the customer to read
