is thus normal? - clutch pressed for a inch with engaging?

Hi,

 

I can very freely press my clutch pedal down about an inch before it actually presses the clutch mechanism. The clutch appears to work fine but I just wonder if this is normal or something that needs attention?

Very common, I think it's the slave cylinder going. Hopefully someone more certain will pop on in a second to inform us
