350z Tapping Noise

Hello everyone, got some bad news. My Zed is dead.

Well it is at the moment. I broke down with a nasty tapping engine. :band:

Got it towed back to mine as there wasnt anything open at the time.

I have since had it towed to Japex in Kings Langley.

It is probably a couple of broken valve guides and possibly a couple of lifters.

Ross has already told me it is quite an extensive job but he wont be able to

take the head off till thursday.

Has anyone else had this problem and was it lack of oil that could have caused it?

I have had it serviced every 9000 miles without fail and have been a bit paranoid about oil

as its a 2006 and all. I feel I have tried to keep it topped up but am now worried that if I get it fixed

will it just go again?

Please help

Hello there. I've had the car for 3 years now.

The first 2.5 years I have been higher grade only.

I have to admit this year with the fuel so high I have put 95 in quite a few times.

Do you think that could do it? I read that so many people use 95

on here.

If its the 2006 model wouldnt it be more to do with the oval cylinders and high oil usage rather than 95ron a few times.

Exactly. The 95 ron shouldnt be a big problem. I have been keeping an eye on oil, or so I thought knowing it was 2006 and doing extensive reading on the subject before buying it.

Maybe it just dipped that bit too low that one time or something.

Did it sound like all the valves were bouncing around or just one or two?

Just thinking - if it was oil related, would it not be likely that you would hear a fair bit of 'failure' going on i.e. multiple valves etc suffering oil starvation wear... in comparison to if one faulty component has given way etc?

Ross and Stuart are good guys. Hopefully they will have it diagnosed quickly with a bunch of options/routes to take.

It is definitely a broken valve guide as Ross sent me a picture of the guide.

I haven't heard anything back since that. It does state in the garages handbook

That it's about an 18 hour job to take all those bits apart.

Prob about £1800 so far if that is all that's wrong with it!

The wait is killing me. It's been tat the garage 10 days already
