jumping350 Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Hi all, My tyre went flat yesterday thought i had a nail in it,took it to local place they said tyre is fine your rim is corroding ive got Rota GTRs apart from light kerbing...from previous owner the wheels look spot on no signs of anything that slighlty alarmed me but guy said its treatable happpens to all wheels and theres no issue with it How do the rims corrode on the inside then and not the outside?? and how bad is it??just wondering Quote
ben@RARE RIMS Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 If you have a polished lip on the wheel, it can happen if the lacquer gets chipped. It's very rare to happen on a Rota wheel that doesn't have a polished lip - that would indicate probable damage from tyre fitting at some point. Corrosion usually has to be quite bad to have a tyre go down! Quote
docwra Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Yeah, that sounds a bit dubious to me ........ Quote
jumping350 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 thats what i thought been on for a year and had no problems with any of the tyres till that day i dont believe they are polished dont look it there is kerbing on that wheel but its on the outer face and no dents or chunks missing and some sort of black gunk on there now after they put tyre back on and reinflated looks like they have done something.# its up now and been that way since monday so maybe just a con from garage to get £13 out of me?? ben@RARE RIMS Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Could be. Could also be the cold - what size wheel/tyre do you have? I had a stretched falken go down on my car while parked in the ice last year Quote
jumping350 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 i got 235/40/18 on the fronts they are supersteels i was thinking the cold might of had something to do with it and might have been on uneven surface? Quote
jumping350 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 front 9" ET 35 rears 10" ET 30 reason i put both down could you also reccomend what size spacers i would require to make it sit flush...errr Quote
ben@RARE RIMS Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 If you've got Rota GTRs, there's no way you've got those sizes 18x8.5 18x9.5 19x9 19x10 Are pretty much the options for the 350Z. Got any pics? Quote
jumping350 Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 Ah thats what i was told they were, they must be what you stated handy to know il jot that down pic below Quote
ben@RARE RIMS Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 They'll be 8.5 front and 9.5 rear if they're 18s looking at that pic If you have any more issues with the corrosion get a picture of it while they're sorting it - it'd be interesting to see - as it's not an issue we've had before! Quote
jumping350 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 i will do no prob the front right is coming off next week so il take a look and get some pics, what size spacers do you reccomend i get?? Quote
ben@RARE RIMS Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 How do you mean which size spacers do you need? What is your aim? Quote
jumping350 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 to get a bit more and a wider stance look maybe just the rear then??i dont know ive never put spacers on any of my cars before Quote
ben@RARE RIMS Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 It'll just be as much spacer as you think you need to make it look as you want They push the wheels out by their width, maybe measure from where the wheels are now to where you want them, and that is the amount of mm spacer you need Quote
