Do these give any performance benefits or are they purely for cosmetic purposes?

Hmm I highly doubt they would make a difference to the OEM box, they may give the tiniest smidge of a performance increase to an aftermarket cone filter as they suffer heat soak on the zed. Performance you would notice... the answers no.
