power steering fluid

my power steering fluid seems a touch low, what should i be putting in there to top it up with? i know a mechanic down the pub and he said brake fluid?? really?

I use Nissan AT-Matic D Fluid which is just a posh name or Auto Transmission Fluid.

 

Compatible with Dexron 111
