Hey all

only had the car for a week and oil has started to drip from the front of the engine, i have some pics, aint the best but hopefully some of you will be able to tell me roughly what the problem is

i checked the iol PSI and at idle it sits around 60-70 and the rev sits at 500-1000

there is oil around the fill cap not alot but it looks as though it could be leaking, also me mate who has a good understanding of vehicles says the garage may have filled it up to much and the pressure is pushing it out?

i checked the dip stick and it is to the second notch, i have only done 100mile since i had it and it was serviced by the garage i bought it from.

Pic are not very helpful but in anycase you should keep and eye on all the gauges and fluids(coolant, oil, powersteering) every day and book a check with the garage so they can see if it was not just spilled oil when it was serviced or and actual leak.

you should clean all the oil you can see so if it comes back it will suggest spill is more likely as the zed is not not to leak oil commonly

If it is overfilling that is as bad as underfilling :surrender: did you check the dipstick on a cold engine on level terrain and after a dipping/wipping the stick 1-2 to be accurate? if the level is above the full mark then overfilling could be the issue and i will still take it back

Thanks for the quick reply mate,

after further inspection, and me being a mong and not looking at it, the seal seems to be ripped!, hopefully that is the problem, ill take it to the garage to check but if it just the seal were can i get a new one from?

There is you problem mate  when the engine is runing at temp the oil temp and pressures will leak through that easy espicially with the it filled to the brim as it is :p

Should not cost too much from the stealers(Nissan) and you should get the garage to pay for it ;)

just been out to double check the oil readings after leaving it over night and they are still comming up as over full, which means it aint a massive oil leak, i checked under the car and the patch was small, so if it was a serious oil leak i guess it would have been all over, i have parked the beast in an area were there are no oil marks and gonna leave it for the day and check on it at night!, if there is no oil leaks it would be safe to say it is deffs the seal on the dip stick.

when checking around the whole the dipstick is inserted i noticed that the piece of metal which looks like a funnel of some sort is bent and that it keeps catching on the seal from the dipstick when it is pulled out.

dont suppose anyone would know why it is doing that and how to bend it back without taking the filter box out!?

also when checking i noticed the coolant level was low, considering i have only had it out for 100mile i would of thought it would be high?

thanks again for ur replies guys!
