dan4 Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Seems to be a lot of carbon wrapping of Z parts goin on at present but I have the chance to buy a carbon bonnet for the Rex but it has seen a hard life. Id like to know whether it could be wrapped so it looks good as new and a rough cost of it also.... Quote
Harman350z Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Wow, looks like it has seen better days. Contact RGVA on here, they do good wrapping. Quote
srobrien Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 If its just lacquer damage it will clean up with some wet and dry and a machine polisher Quote
yokomo Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 If its just lacquer damage it will clean up with some wet and dry and a machine polisher definatly , have a look on my350z (darn it why i do have to keep ref them!) there's a small guide on there or get a body shop to . bascially as long as the top layer of weave isnt damaged to badly you can sand it down and then re resin it , sand and laquer ! sketch Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 i know its lighter than the original but there is no way i would wrap real carbon fibre in fake, it can be flatted down and re laqured if the place is really good, i had mine done but the laqure kept misting up all the time, im sure there is a special polish you can buy to take care of it after its been redone tho Quote
dan4 Posted March 22, 2010 Author Posted March 22, 2010 I see what you are saying by bringing up the shine again but there are several repair marks that will not be removed by simply polishing Quote
yokomo Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 you dont just polish it , you sanded it down till your past the messed up layer of resin and almost at the weave then put a fresh layer of resin over the top. then sand that shiney and clear coat it. see this thread http://my350z.com/forum/exterior-and-in ... rts-5.html about half way down , bonnet looks forked and is like new once hes finished. Chris`I Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 As long as its not down to the actual weave, you should be able to get someone to flat it back as the others have said and re-gelcoat it and then laquer it for extra protection Quote
KJ. Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hi Dan, Providing the surface is still nice and smooth we could cover it in carbon vinyl for £165 inc VAT. Best Regards, Kieran Quote
