I was washing the wheels of the car today and when going over the sidewall of the tyre i notices a 1/2 inch slice, thinking that maybe it had rubbed against something i scrubbed it a little and noticed it went ALOT deeper. The hole probably goes about 1 inch deep, so im guessing someone has taken a knife to it  However the tyre is still at the right presure and isnt losing any air, what im questioning is do you think its best to get another tyre? Im not sure how its managed to go that deep without damaging it, what i dont want is the tyre to get warm and then possibly cause a blowout!

Anyone had this before?

I would never risk it personally tbh. It is now a weak point in the tyre so if you were to hit a pothole or something, that will be the point of least resistance and it could all end badly if it is that deep.

A photo would help but as I see it, I would not feel safe with a tyrewall that stands just a few mm from total disaster. Have it looked upon by an expert asap.

+1 get down to a tyre specialist asap

Fast cornering will put strain on any of the remaining layers. Not a good time for rapid deflation of a tyre.

Slow and straight until its replaced I'm afraid.

Even if a tyre shop said it's OK I'd change it for peace of mind anyway.

You'll always have it niggling at the back of your mind and end up pootling about for fear of a dreaded POP :scare:

Don't even think twice about it :scare:

Any side wall dammage is serious and renders a tyre ilegal too ;)

You will have to get replacements :surrender:

I had similar about a month ago and there was still 6mm of thread on the tyre
