Gearbox Oil Question

Recommended Posts

I've (hopefully) just bought a new gearbox from eBay for £200. Bargain.

I have 2 questions which I probably should have asked someone before getting my wallet out.

1. It sounds to me like it's from a Jap import. My car isn't an import. Will it fit alright?

2. The guy who doesn't seem to know a whole lot about Zeds said he was recommended by a 'reputable' gearbox specialist to put 10/40 engine oil in. I've not heard of anything like that before. Is he confused, or is his reputable garage not so reputable?

Cheers guys.

1. Should be no issues there.

2. He/the garage are talking rubbish, the 350Z box should use a proper 75W-85 GL4 oil for gearboxes.

Best Regards,

Gaz

Confused and not so reputable :scare:

Use SAE 75W-85 API GL4 +

Assuming that it is a 6 speed manual

Ah, good. So long as the 'reputable' person wasn't saying to him "put 10/40 in and he'll never hear that half the cogs are missing" I'll be fine then.

I was quite shocked. I just hate buying things from eBay I've not had many good experiences from that site in the last how ever many years it's been going. And I'm the one who gets bad feedback because some goof buys a car, looks round it himself, buys it, drives it home and complains that it needs new tyres soon. Ah! :bang:

I despair.

Please everyone, fingers crossed I've not just blown £200...

Any guides on here for changing a 'box or is it fairly straight forward? :surrender:
