Rentech Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Hi, Not an owner yet but went to view a car last night. Was suprised to see the alloys had been balanced with the weights that clip onto the rim of the wheel. After many years of alloys that used the stick-on, internal type of weight I was wondering if this was the normal. On previous cars I've owned these clip on weights seemed to be a prime location for corrosion to start. When I eventually (hopefully) get my 350Z would you advise using the stick on weights, after fitting tyres, or does everyone use the standard clips ons? Quote
Andy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 With alloys, you should always get stick on ideally. The hammer on weights are a lot cheaper which is why people use them but historically I have only ever used them on steel rims with hubcaps or van wheels etc. Quote
Renegade Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I have just taken an alloy for refurb. It had stick on fitted to the front. It had 2 hammer ons on the back where they were not visible. Quote
sunset350z Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 If you use hammer on weights on the rim face then it will damage the paint work and cause corrosion to set in, and void any warranty Quote
H5 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 And the Rays really don't need any help in the corrosion department! Quote
