Passenger upper dash scuffs

I've somehow managed to scuff the upper section of the passenger dashboard. Is there a way of getting rid of these scuffs or am I looking at replacing the dash board piece? I've read somewhere that if you gently use a hairdryer you can rub the scratches away has anybody tried this?
