Nissan Juke CVT gearbox failure. Any experience?

A friend has a 2011 juke 1.6 auto and it's making quite a racket. She's been told it's the CVT failing and cost will be thousands. It's supposedly a problem that Nissan USA recognise and act appropriately with repair however Nissan uk are apparently standing by the standard response that it's not a known issue and they will supply a new gearbox for a princely £8,000 - making the car a write off. It's currently got full history (not all Nissan though) and only 30 something k miles on the clock.

A quick scan of the net shows it's clearly a very well documented issue and there are stories of Cars with little more than delivery miles have been known to go pop. Nissan continue to close their eyes unless it's under warranty.

Has anyone heard of this issue or known the best way of tackling it?

Hi Jay kay. yes i heard of this. A mate of a mate has the Juke and had gear problems. Can't recall without chatting, but think he had gear box replaced after not that many miles. "Worst car he ever had". So yes it is a known problem and probably should be a recall.
