Duff synchromesh

Someone mentioned posting some of the common warranty issues, so here's my first one. Synchromesh on 6th gear needs replacing. Symptoms? Nearly everytime you select 6th it will 'graunch'. Got mine done under warranty.

Good result. This is pretty widely known now at dealerships and generally they will assign a top technician or whatever handle (fancy title) they have to test drive the car. Based on that report and assuming the symptoms are repeatable - warranty kicks in, no problem.

 

It has to be noted that this situation has only arisen because of sites here and in the US promoting these 'problems'

I too had this and they replaced some bits in the box....did not tell me exactly what but did the trick.

It has been reported in the US that using a Synthetic Gear Oil can help in the early stages; however once you start grinding that metal ...........

I have had that intermittently, but seems ok now! haven't let it "grind" tbh, as when I felt the gear not going in, I've never really released the clutch, thus avoiding the grinding (apart from once! lol)

 

Will change the gearbox oil to synthetic soon enough, and maybe if it gets worse I'll try the warranty route.
