Clutch pedal over centre thingy

Does anyone know the function of the overcentre spring thing fitted to the clutch pedal?

I've been having the pedal stick down occasionally and am thinking of removing it.

Your slave or master cylinder is more than likely on the fritz, not the spring. Very common issue, change them both before you get stuck.

Have also had my clutch pedal slow to rise as a result of the clutch fluid being old and boiling when sitting in slow traffic.

Nope, that's the slave/master issue. It won't boil just sitting in traffic, it just seems like that's the cause. It's because the seal is on its way out, and the constant use in traffic exacerbates the wear.

 

Get them both changed ASAP.
