Installing a new head unit

In the process of installing a new head unit. All connected up i think. When i turn the ignition on the unit comes on but i havent connected this earth cable to anywhere (shown below) do i need to?

Some units require it and some don't it seems.

I've a pioneer and mine is fine with out it connected

Its up and running but i have no sound.... This is so frustrsting.

Do i need the cable on the right hand side? The unit is powering up fine. Theres just no sound.

Yeah I had same problem send me a few pics? Have you spliced into the blue cable at all ? Wait till buster is around he's an absolute legend when it comes to stuff like this

Do you have an amplifier fitted as well?

you need to join the blue wire to the blue / white wire by splicing it together .

All im changing is the head unit. Its a gt so has the bose system

join it to the blue wire.....

cut the end off the blue/white wire ,cut the blue wire and join all 3 together.......hay presto.....sound

i d also earth the green wire to the chassie

Yes working, thank you everyone! Youre a star buster i havent earthed the green cable though.

If you can use an eyelet to Earth the black cable to your front right screw holding the gear stick. I did this today and stopped my kenwood system hissing. Really useful guide here and references the earthing in one of the steps.

Ok everything is working fine, but i have no steering wheel controls! I thought the idea of the loom i bought was to keep them?? Buster....?

make sure it located in the correct port on the unit.......?

Is the black box for the steering controls? Because theres a connecter one end that doesnt go anywhere

you should have a fly lead with a plug one end to fit the black box and the other end a jack plug that locates into the h/unit.just double check its in the correct locations in the h/unit.
