  1. Agreed on the R26 ;)

Or for something a bit more economical and sticking with the Megane theme, maybe a 'normal' Renaultsport model. If you fancy moving to the 'Dark Side' Evo magazine rates the Diesel Renaultsport Megane they've had on their Fast fleet.

Otherwise, a nearly new Golf GTi is a good option, the Scirocco is still a bit out of your price range unless you wait for 6 months.

For something a bit different I'd be very tempted by the Volvo C30 T5 with the 5 cylinder engine from the Focus RS.....

  2. I'll echo the thoughts on German or Japanese, reliability should be better than Italian or french - having said that an Alfa 145/146/155/156 could be had for the money and will handle/sound great while it's working ;) You're nearly into high mile/iffy GTV's too.

    I'd go for a Golf though - and get a GTi, just because you're only spending 500 notes doesn't mean you have to drive something that won't handle. Just don't get a MK3, they're pants unless it's a VR6 ;

    He are some MKII's...

I highly recommend Audi coupe's too, I used to own one and they're bulletproof, the 20V engine's the one to have if you can find one. Handling's OK if not great as they're a bit heavy.

    Hope that helps

  3. "Prices for the 2006 350Z which is orderable now will start at £26,300. That’s £800 more than the sell out 2005 version but new Z fans will be getting £1700 worth of extra spec including 18-inch RAYS lightweight alloy wheels (previously a £1000 option), bi-xenon headlights, and another 20PS of heart stirring power.

    How ghey is that

  4. Wow, he's got a bee in his bonnet (not the cause of the accident apparently) :)

Understandable given the way Audi / Lamborghini has treated him.

His page would be more objective for his cause though if it focused on accidents which pointed towards steering failure and listed other supposed imcompetencies/failures in a different section.

Lambo are obviously reluctant to accept liabilty, although you have to think it would be less damaging for them if they did.

    Hope he gets his justice.

There must be a few Murcialago drivers ouit there wondering if their steering is going to do an impromptu right turn .....

  5. No doubt they'll get away with it lightly. Scrotums like these really get my goat. What a lame way to live, always on the look-out for something for nothing.

What a spacktard, how could you hope to accurately rip off a signature you've never seen?

At least the rims are safe B)

  6. a3 3.2 quattro although hardly any quicker than the 2.0lt T does if you choose the flappy paddles includes launch control which works really well on it ;)

+1 - the extra weight of the 3.2 near as damn it negates any increase in power. Better to get the 2l and get it Revo'd ;)

True, but you can't beat the sound of a Vee ;)

Best to drive all the options......

On a different tangent for something more oversteery how about a BMW 1 Series Sport? 1 Series are a bit more common these days so should blend in.

  7. Hmmmmm, many things to go for. If you want to buy then an s4 (old style) would do the job, as mentioned 2.7 bi-turbo so can shift and four wheel drive too. Very stealthy.

You could see if any A6 4.2 quattros are available, I don't think they are too ostentatious...

Either that or Subaru Legacy. They are ace cars (try one) and go like stink in the right guise!

    Wot he said ;)

Are you looking for a hatch or bigger?

I'd say S4 all the way (but be prepared to change the chrome mirrors), or maybe an E39 535/540i if you want some oversteer. No one does understated like Audi.

S3, R32 or your suggested Clio's for hatches, although the MkV GTi may be more understated.

From Audi the 3.2 A3 Quattro would fit the bill, preferably with DSG.

By the way, I think the Q car tags originates from war ships disguised as local fishing boats to avoid attention :)

  8. Had a day (actually about 12 minutes!) in an R8 a couple of weekends ago. Superb car and the instructor was pretty relaxed (and a 350Z fan :) ). That was at Prestwold Hall near Loughborough. It was a Virgin 'experience' and cost 100 notes. Not sure about deals though. I would say that if you can stretch to driving 3 or 4 cars on the day it'll be more worthwhile and possibly better value for money. Maybe AA or RAC have discounts?

  9. If your sister is more bothered about a decent drive than image, these are great options.....

Panda 100hp, bit over budget tho:

    Swift Sport:

I second the Ibiza recommendation - has she considered an oil burner?

This one has high mileage but Derv's are tough and take big miles easily.

    Hope this helps :)

  10. Do you have to be in the trade to go to auctions?

No, you don't. Just need to register before you bid and you're away. Carried away sometimes ;)

There's usually a surprising amount of nice metal that goes through, it's not unusual to see Astons, Porsches etc. When I bought my car a year ago at auction a 2 year old 5 series went though for £12K B)

Of course you have to accept that the history is pretty unknown, the best bets are ex lease cars which have usually had all services etc on the button

  11. I Like the overall shape, I think it has a bit of shooting brake about it.

Don't like the 'L' shaped lights front or back.

Love the back end generally - I agree with the 928 comment. I like the centred fog light too. Like the rear quarterlights, a bit Lotusish.

    Those rims are cool B)

  12. I like torquey diesels (there, I said it  ), apart from the smell and sound ;)

    My 2p's worth:

BMW 120d M-Sport or 3 series, preferably the 330cd which has the M-Sport bits on it.

Any diesel from the VAG group should keep you happy as long as it's one of the bigger output ones (170bhp I think.)

Chipping turbo diesels gives great results too.

My money would be on one of the Beemers :drive1

  13. There's a 3ds file here...

    http://artist-3d.com/free_3d_models/dnm ... ount=count

The zip file is called '85-nissan-fairlady' but it looks like a 350Z to me :)

I just downloaded it but I don't have Studio at work or even full AutoCAD so couldn't check it.

    I also found this 350Z Sketch-up model....

    http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ ... 2f4c47ee12

I tried to save it as a different filetype but it doesn't look like you can. Sketch-up's free though and you might be able to get the model looking half decent within it's limitations.

    Hope it helps :D
