  1. thanks for all the feedback guys - and Sarnie if that's your chick I think I should meet her - anyway, I now know it's a P3 service due and I think I'll see what the price is from a dealer and then decide if it's worth it. Is there anything special on a P3 service? do they use special engine oils or anything or is it all rather basic stuff?
  2. hello zed people - advice needed again my 2004 Zed needs a service, not sure which one, it'll be P something I suppose, probably only its second or third service EVER because it's only done 20k miles now, but what with credit crunchies and no monies I was wondering if I shouldn't just get my local garage chaps (who are very good peeps) to service it rather than pay gazillions to a main dealer? My local dealer (Bolton) also tell me they can service it, but not do warranty repairs, 'cos they just lost the franchise - and that RENAULT yes RENAULT frenchy mechanics are now the main dealers or summat....wot?!!? although I am out of warranty I was rather hoping to get my halfshafts replaced cos it still goes clonky clonky even though they were rotated & greased blah blah blah which WE ALL KNEW would never work didn't we ? am I likely to get this done even though my warranty is finito? oh God...so much easier just driving the Griff.
  3. HOW MUCH??!!!!!!!!! Just got my renewal form from Nissan Extended Warranty (who I note is actually Car Care Plan Ltd t/a.....)and they want £699 for a years warranty (car will be 5yrs old later this year but has only done 20k miles) Thats DOUBLE what you paid CS???? anyone else been quoted this ginormous price? can it possibly be worth it?

  5. thanks for info guys, and i think by the time I get to 100 posts i'll probably be even less hopeful of Keeley turning up
  6. it came with the Nissan Extended Warranty from the dealer when I got it, it's a Sept 04 car with 20k miles now. Can I just extend another year and is it worth it? i note on my avatar that I am still a Z Hopeful erm....what exactly am I hopeful of now? (other than Keeley Hazell turning up in hotpants to washe the Zed of course)
  7. yes it was a cold frosty morning, just got the car out the garage and ten minutes later was zooming up the M62 and then hoppity skippity all through Lily Allen saying rood words about diamonds and stuff. very annoying. back to the Griff then
  8. do they all do that? was not brilliant road surface but it is a motorway..
  9. hello zeddies, been a while since I posted - the Z hasn't been out much, too busy hooning around in the Griffith! anyway......am i the only one who has decided that the clutch travel/bite/clonk when you let it up too fast is all a bit horrid? is there a way to improve it? (no comments about replacing the operator please
  10. thanks guys - regarding longevity I guess if it starts to re-appear then it's back to the dealer for new shafts/bobbins/spigots/laydangles or whatever needs replacing, all under warranty of course which, the dealer told me, would be no problem because it uses new parts so is covered! doh!
  11. Finally got the zed into my local main dealer in Bolton where a nice bloke called Jim rotated both half shafts 180deg and filed them down, greased them up, tapped them 3 times and made a wish etc. as per Nissan recommendations. And....the clicking noise seeeeeems to have gone. Having said that, there was a bit of a kerfuffle about who pays as apparently my Nissan warranty only covers jobs requiring parts, not 'adjustments' such as rotating half shafts!! Dealer did the decent thing and did not charge me (!) - all seems a bit odd considering this is a design/manufacturer fault? Anyway, will the noise stay 'gone' or has anyone found this fix only a temporary one?
  12. as the man says, there are many options and prices vary but I went for the Nismo because it's an OEM item (kind of..well it's a Nissan part so I don't feel I'm modifying the car outrageously) and it sounds good if you want a nice exhaust note rather than LOOOOOOUD BOOM BOOM BOOM YEEEEEEOOOOOWWWWWWWW etc. for which there are other options. It is also a complete kit right up to the cats and is very easy to fit (even comes with all new bolts/gaskets etc so it's all you need) and it takes about 30mins to fit if you have a 4-post lift and know how to fit exhausts. I got my mate to do mine because he runs a tyre shop and he said it was the easiest, best made 'after-market' system he's ever fitted. got ine from big phil at ESR. TVR still has the edge though....
  13. Thanks BigPhil - got it fitted today, only took 20mins as you said. and blimey what a difference....looks the biz and sounds absolutely spot on. My zed now has soul......and my Griffith is sulking a bit as the zed gets one step closer to pole position in my garage.. - thanks to all who recommended I get one - am chuffed to bits.
  14. thanks for info - went to see Jim at Lythgoe and he seems good. He said that swapping over the drive shafts & greasing usually cures the noise (which he said was annoying but not dangerous etc) but if not then they would replace them. i mentioned the occasionally 'jittery' clutch bite in first and he said that it was a common problem on older cars...and requires a new clutch & flywheel to fix now where did I park that TVR....
  15. had the Z three days and yes....I've got clicky axle syndrome. No, my TVR has never broken down in 5 years (sorry) So, i gather from previous posts I have a common Z fault - my local main dealer (Lythgoe Bolton) has said it does two things: - first they rotate the drive shafts 180degrees and grease - if this doesn't fix they fit new shaft/cv thingies sound about right? any comments? anyone know Lythgoe? I spoke to chap called Jim in't workshop
  16. yes got it from Sturgess - would be good to know who its first owner was if anyone knows the car? (Gunmetal/Alezan '54 GT with reg ending WYY) Yes TVR different beast really, and some need more TLC than others , but I have to say that the zed is very close in terms of feel although the Griffith is a bit more brutal
  17. at long last, having bought it ages ago from the dealer, I have picked up my '54 Coupe and had my first proper drive from Leicester to Manchester. and....... chuffed to bits. My first impressions are good to say the least. And it has some fairly tough competition in my little stable, including a fully sorted TVR Griffith which is the 'tightest' car I've ever driven in terms of handling, steering precision, and grunt. Given that the Z has been designed for broader appeal and for more general road use I have to say it's goddam close in terms of driver appeal, and overall 'tightness' - not a common motoring term but I think you guys will get what I mean. So, I'd have to agree that the 350Z is possibly every bit as good as everyone says it is. I was trying to find faults, things that could be improved, but struggled! (ok maybe a bit more noise...cue Nismo) One small thing....the clutch seems a bit jittery and even juddery pulling away in first...is that common? or is my clutch bu**ered!
  18. by the way lomoto Ive bin watching your avatar for 16 hours now and she still hasn't dropped them, will she ever?
  19. not many 'against' then....great! Big Phil will give you a ring soon to book it in!
  20. picking up my '54 Zed soon and am contemplating getting it Nismo'd from the off - but before I jump in, I'm sure there are pro's and con's compared to leaving the car bog standard - so please vote now; Nismo or not? (and why) thanks!
  21. thanks boys - especially for the non-pc comments on girlfriends & marriage - so glad I'm in the right crowd here and now for another question....does a Nismo exhaust cause any insurance issues?
  22. thanks everyone....and here is a (rather boring) pic of my zed sat at the dealer.
  23. ...in my favour she has always commented how cool Zs look, and she llikes a good thrash in a sports car... oh by the way, I notice some of you chaps with coupes have 'tonneau' listed as an add-on. forgive my zignorance but aren't they for roadsters? what are they?
  24. tested them both again and went for the younger model. so all I have to do is collect it, get it to big phil for a nismo, and work out how the heck to tell fiancee that the wedding might have to be delayed... still, what's a few weeks of angry woman compared to a '54 GT in gunmetal with alezan leather eh? well ok it might be more than a few weeks...thanks to all for help & advice and I pleased to be getting my first zed very soon.
