My Mustang will be paid off around May next year and i'm torn as to what to get next.
I've left my Mustang on the drive and have been driving my wife's old e90 BMW 320d for most of the year while she's been wfh as I don't particularly enjoy driving the 'Stang to work. I have a 15 mile commute down some crappy country lanes, which are single track in 4 or 5 places. The Mustang is too big and too nice to subject to that drive, plus the frustration of not being able to stretch its legs gets on my tits.
Soooo i'm torn as to what to get next, and I've got up to an additional £30k to spend (including some borrowing).
I love having a nice car so i'm happy to keep the Mustang and get something else... the current front runner is a 981 Cayman (2.7 non-S model, so that i can drive it a bit harder within the legal limits). I'm thinking it'll be smaller and more suitable for the lanes (or i might just be lying to myself!) Alternatively I could get a 2014-ish 3 series or C Class and then offset the boredom by getting a classic Mustang too. Or I could sell my Mustang and have around £60k to spend, and get something a little more nuts like an R8 or a 991 911 and a 3 series daily...
i was also considering an F-Type but i suspect it'll be too big like the Mustang.
My realistic dream car is the Mercedes AMG GT which you can pick up for high £50k's, but they're still depreciating heavily so i'll leave it another 2 or 3 years before i start looking at them.
What would you guys do?
Here's the 'Stang as it stands today. (BMW in the garage is my track car, which i'm also looking to swap next year).

I cant speak from 350z experience but i've had both on my Mustang. It came with the Pirelli P Zero's from new and they were an embarrassment - I think the zero stands for zero cold or wet grip. They lasted under 4.5k miles from new until they were at the legal limit, and they nearly killed me when pulling onto a dual carriageway from a slip road, and accelerating in 3rd - i ended up fishtailing across both carriageways a couple of times.
I swapped them for MPS4s part-worns the following week, which had 5.5mm tread on them, and they lasted 9k miles. Loads more grip (but break away when required) and much improved wet and cold performance.
No contest.

How will this affect used prices ? Is it time to sell IC vehicles or should we keep the good stuff in case used prices rise ?
I would imagine this will make any halfway interesting ICE cars from the late 20's appreciate very nicely - as long as there isnt a heavy penalty for ownership such as ludicrous road tax etc.

Yeah dead common. Just double-declutch on gear change to avoid it. Annoying at first but becomes muscle memory before too long.
Molyslip may help but didn't on mine back in the day.

Couple of new mods to report on my Mustang...
First up, i removed the stripes some time back... I think it looks better without them.
Secondly, i picked up a set of SVE R350 19" alloys with MPSS rears and MPS4s fronts. They dont seem to make MPS4Ss in 305/35/19 yet... had to add some blue wheel nuts to complement the look.
Finally I added the front splitter today... it was a bumper off job and more of a ballache than i was expecting, but all sorted now and i'm really pleased with the look.
Next on the to-do list is a black front badge...

Just me...?
I actually tried this for the first time today, and it was pretty disappointing. I pulled the green abrasive sponge off following this picture, but it doesnt let much through. I might be able to modify it for next time though... in theory the concept's a winner.

Please stay on this forum and replace this thread with your Skyline build! Your pictures are the best.

I never put the resolution in this thread.
I had a Pirelli sale rep work with me and he offered a discount if I bought a front pair of Pirelli Zero's, he then replaced the rears for free with the same model of tyre. I went with it and the handling was absolutely fine after that. Although I could tell the handling was not as good as the original Michelin Pilot Super Sport. The main thing was that all the wobble in the handling instantly f**ked off.
A right school boy error getting two different tyre brands on the front and back
Did you ever try it with the matching fronts and dodgy rears in order to determine if it was a manufacturing fault on the rears, or did you go straight to matching fronts and new rears?

Top one is the auto dip feature when in reverse on your wing mirrors. Bottom one immobiliser.

I know a little worried me and Marzman will have to stuff old rags in the back of our Stang's, eventually they will roll those cameras out when they realise how much they can make.
Id be buggered.

little update:
Had my battery tested - reader came up that it was only giving out 375 so ordered a Bosch S4 026 - Replaced the battery - still no main beam
Took the drivers side wheel off, went in through the arch, changed the side light - nice and simple, checked the ballast/connecter, seemed in tip tip condition, no moisture, no dirt, it looked like new. Took the bulb out, looked used obviously but no real signs of damage, replaced with a new 600K bulb. switched the lights on and.... nothing. (side light worked fine).
Have a work thing so only had time to do the one side so far.
Anyone have any other thoughts on what could be the issue.
Relays changed
Battery changed
Bulb Changed
What's next?
In terms of parts, what should i be looking for in ballasts and igniters? Could it be something as simple as a fuse? (novice when it comes to auto-electrics so wouldn't know what to check to be honest).
Sorry it wasnt the battery.
Have you confirmed with a multimeter that the ballasts are getting power?

Yep, we do.

Poverty spec Chris? I don't think so? You modded it to it's teeth didn't you?

I have to say a lot had cool Zed related plates too.
Do you still have the Stang?
Yep still got the Stang. Barely driving it though - i've only done about 1500 miles this year. My wife's WFH so i've been driving her car, which is my old 2005 BMW 320d. I actually enjoy driving it more than the Mustang strangely. Plus the Mustang looks amazing on the driveway when i get home from work.

If my memory is correct I remember a pic of you in your upgraded Zed on the carousel at The Ring floating around once upon a time too
Yep, well remembered Andy. My favourite pic of any of my cars.

Car looks good in that colour.

Ah the memories. My first poverty spec silver zed was in most of those pics.

I had 2 Zeds covering over 5 years of ownership, and briefly owned a RX8 as a track toy (only did 1 day in it before moving it on).
I much preferred the power delivery of the 350z. as Ekona said, there is far more torque which makes it much easier to live with. I didnt enjoy having to drive the arse of the rex to get anything out of it. The 350z is much more of a GT cruiser.

Hi all
350 rev up 06. Head lights have suddenly stopped working, side lights fine but no main beam.
Car was sat for a week while I was away. Started fine, battery volt gauge is normal.
On first drive I noticed they would come On intermittently while driving in the dark which was a right nightmare for the 15 min drive home.
This morning only one was on and now this evening both are out.
Any thoughts?
Could possibly be the battery on its way out, as you said it was stood for a week. I know you said voltage looks normal but maybe pop a battery charger on and see how much charge you've got.
When my battery was in its final throws, the headlights were coming on with the lights switched off, and i couldnt get them to switch off at all until i disconnected the battery! I dont know what causes that, i'm guessing some sort of odd voltage issue makes it spaz out.

I dont believe the status of the 370 replacement will have an impact on used Nismo residuals.
I think you can safely forecast your cars value based on the price of 2016 or 17 cars now - i.e. its still going to be worth circa £20k via private sale by the time you come to change your car early next year when your term ends (iirc!)

Looking good, welcome.
What next after Mustang?

Just had a google... looks like there's a UK release pencilled in, but they'll be £81k+ (versus £45k equivalent in the US )
