1. I've just found this...looks like it could work! MILLIPUT EPOXY PUTTY MODELLING SCULP REPAIR BLACK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380128407950 Plan to clingfilm the area, then put a good blob of putty on, then clingfilm over the top, and then (the most important bit) press a flat metal plate onto it that is a similar size to the control knob to make sure the top side is nice a flat! It's either going to work really easily or be a complete nightmare...LOL! Mark.
2. Right, please open the attached photo below...this control knob works in the same way as the iPod click wheel (it's fantastic!) BUT I want to position it where the red circle is in the picture AND I don't want to use screws to do this. At the position where I want to mount there is a slight curve which means the sticky pad that came with the control knob will only stick on about 25% because the surface isn't completely flat. A friend recommended I put some clingfilm over the area (to protect it) and put some kind of moulding putty/paste in that position to form a mould. After a while it will become hard and can then be filed/sanded down to the correct size and shape. The great thing about this idea is that it will have the exact curve I need and i can make the top flat (to mount the control knob after). I hope this makes sense to you...it's hard to explain! Anyway, just wondered if anyone could recommend some type of moulding putty/paste, liquid plastic, etc for this specific job...? Alternatively, if you have another idea then please let me know. I think I've considered all mounting placement options and this position is, to me, by far the most convenient when driving. MANY thanks, Mark.
3. Oh and I've used Bilberry wheel cleaner on them but it doesn't seem strong enough to remove the caked-on brake dust on the back of the wheel. Can any of you recommend some really potent wheel cleaner that I can use as a one-off (only on the backs of the wheels) to remove that build-up of brake dust? Thanks!
4. I've just contacted my local WickedWheels guy (who did the reconditioning a year ago) and have sent him photos of the problem. He said he'll drop by my house when he's in the area in about a week or so to take a closer look and advise further. I'm going to do my best to get him to recondition them again (properly this time!) free-of-charge. By the way, is it normal for these reconditioning companies not to recondition the entire wheel?...seems strange to me! Mark.
5. Guys, As some of you already know I recently bought some LMGT4 wheels off 'zmanalex'. I'm now looking to sell my original 18" GT4 wheels. However... ...I had the wheels reconditioned about a year ago and the company told me at the time that they wouldn't recondition the entire depth of the alloy wheel but, once fitted, you wouldn't know otherwise (this sounded strange to me but apparently it was normal practice...is it though?). After they finished the job they all looked fantastic (once fitted) so I was happy. Anyway, I've noticed since Christmas that some sort of corrosion has taken place and is visible when the wheels are fitted (as you'll see in the photos)...I'm guessing this has happened on the border of where they stopped the reconditioning treatment. Should this have happened? If not, I'll try my best to get them to re-do them. The tyres are Toyo T1R and all have LOADS of tread left as they're all quite new. I'm looking to sell all 4 and obviously want to get the best price for them. Please also take into account that there is some curbing on a couple of the wheels too. Question is, do I just clean them all up as best I can and sell them or do I do my best to get them in tip-top condition before selling? What would you do? MANY thanks! Mark. 6. Thanks guys! I have put sealant on them and will make sure I keep them clean and sealed as much as possible (and more than I have done with any wheel to-date!). I've read on several threads that they can corrode easier than other wheels (not sure why) which is really annoying but we'll see how it goes...
7. I recently bought some 19" LMGT4 wheels and Falken tyres off 'zmanalex'. Apparrently he had them for a few months but rarely used them as they were his "weekend wheels"! When they arrived (boxed individually) they were in fantastic, as new, condition and I have to say that he was a really nice guy to deal with. I can really recommend him if you're ever thinking about buying anything from him in the future I told Alex that I'd post some photos once they're fitted (and nice and clean!) so here they are. I'm lovin' the new look and think the slightly increased size (both diameter and width) makes a real difference
8. Just replied in one of my other threads. See the following link for details... http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=23016&p=337563#p337563
9. Thanks for the lengthy reply I've gone ahead and ordered a 1x10" strut bar sub box from the US eBay seller 'zenclosures', mainly because communication with them has been excellent to-date. Like you, I was quoted $99 for delivery to the UK which is fair enough. However, I noticed that the eBay listing had the "Make Offer" option enabled so I asked him what he would accept and managed to get the enclosure for $85 instead of $100! He also said that he would offer that price to anyone else on this forum So, with import tax, etc I think the total cost will be around £150...result! In terms of an amp, there was a Genesis Series 3 Four Channel amp (like the one selling at the moment) on eBay a few days ago and I managed to negotiate a deal with the seller whereby he would end the listing (there were no bids at the time) early for an all-in delivered price of £300. I received the amplifier this morning and the seller had also thrown in some nice cabling too. Will be ordering the Genesis Audiophile 10" sub and Alpine Imprint processor (PXA-H100) from incarexpress.co.uk later today and plan to have everything fitted in a couple of weeks, once the sub box has arrived from the US. Mark.
10. Hi guys, 'zmanalex' recently supplied me with some LMGT4 wheels in absolute mint condition and I'm REALLY happy with how they look on the car However, the nuts needed (which I also got off him) are what I would call slimline 17mm nuts, i.e. the head of the nut is simply the 17mm hex (anything bigger would damage the wheels when fitted). Part of the deal was that I would find myself some locking wheel nuts for these wheels (ideally in black to match the others) and once fitted I would send him back 4 nuts that he's loaned me. I'm having real trouble finding anything that comes close but I guess I'm not looking in the right places! Not only that but I'm not sure what spec nuts I need apart from the 17mm hex size, i.e. thread size, etc. Can anyone point me in the direct of some locking nuts that will work with these wheels? Black isn't totally necessary but would be nice so they match the others. Just seen these, although they're M12 x 1.5 (not 1.25 as I believe I need), would they work? They seem slimline looking to me too. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140313272586 MANY thanks, Mark.
11. Guys, I've just put a new headunit and speakers in my car and during that process the existing Bose headunit, Bose amp, and front component speakers were taken out. Would you say it's best to eBay some/all of these items and also post a link to the 'trading post' area of this forum? Out of interest, does anyone know what I should realistically get for these items? Do you think an auction or a 'Buy It Now' (with 'near offer' added) listing would work best? Oh, and lastly, during the new install the phone cradle base was taken out (which I never used) to make more space for storing my iPod, etc. When I bought the car (2nd hand) this base was there so I'm wondering whether this was an optional extra or whether it's something that is installed at the factory on all zeds. I didn't buy the extra bit that is specific to the phone you want to use with it so it's literally just the base I'm talking about selling. Is it worth anything? Many thanks, Mark.
12. Trouble is, from what I can see, there's no sub enclosure like that available in the UK. I need one that fits under the strut bar so I can still fit golf clubs and trolley in the boot! (I do not want to use the stock location directly behind the seat). I'm sure that creating a custom enclosure for that location from scratch will be 4+ hours work and @ around £50 an hour at the specialist ICE installer I use that'll mean £200 minimum, probably more. I'll get quotes for the DHL and Fedex options 'martinmac' suggested. Thanks guys! Mark.
13. Guys, Have any of you had any experience buying reasonably big things from the states and getting them sent to the UK? I'm looking to find the cheapest/best courier company to do this so that I can buy a custom subwoofer enclosure off eBay US. Nissan 350z Custom Subwoofer Sub Box Enclosure 1x10" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250315936350 Any help, advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Mark.
14. Right, I've just found the Genesis Audiophile 25.01 10" Subwoofer which would not only match my Genesis component fronts but their specifications state that they are designed to work in a sealed enclosure with 0.7 cu. ft. volume. OK, so the custom strut bar enclosure I'm looking to get is 0.81 cu. ft. but surely that small difference won't matter.....? http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=GENA2501 Now I need to look at what 4 channel amp to buy (to power both the Genesis fronts and this sub). Any recommendations chaps (without me spending stupid money)? Cheers, Mark.
15. I've just had a new headunit (Alpine CDA-105Ri), proper iPod interface (Harmon Kardon Drive & Play 2), and component fronts (Genesis AudioPhile 16.03) installed which is a MASSIVE improvement but the next stage is a 4 channel amp to power the fronts properly and a sub. Has anyone used the following custom subwoofer enclosure that fits under the rear strut bar/brace? If so, did you order it on eBay US (how much was the p&p?) or is there another way of getting it from a UK source? Nissan 350z Custom Subwoofer Sub Box Enclosure 1x10" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250315936350 or Nissan 350z Custom Subwoofer Sub Box Enclosure 2x10" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260307040731 I am also wondering whether the specs (see below), specifically depth and the .81 cu. ft volume are enough for a 2 x 10" install (JL Audio or Genesis subs). If not, is it really adequate for a single 10" sub? Mounting depth - 6 7/8 in. (based on 6" magnet) Mounting diameter - 9 1/8 in. Total volume - .81 cu. ft. Volume per chamber - .81 cu. ft. Chambers - 1 (mono) Width - 38 in. Height - 11 1/8 in. Bottom depth - 11 1/2 in. Top Depth - 6 1/2 in. Oh, and any recommendation on JL Audio vs Genesis 10" subs? My component fronts are Genesis and sound fantastic but I know JL are liked by people on here. Same question applies for the amp! MANY thanks! Mark.
16. Will do! One question though...once layers of sealant are applied, would it then be appropriate to use the Meguiars NXT All Metal Polish OR would I be better cleaning and polishing the wheels and then applying the sealant? Oh, and if I get one or two more stubborn marks then what do you suggest I use to remove them?...I read on another thread that using tar remover will work but, to me, that sounds a bit harsh and a bad idea. Sorry for all the (stupid) questions but I want to make sure I do it right!
17. Well I'm the sort of person that always likes to look after things as best I can. I'll most definitely be using these wheels all year round and if that means I have to get them reconditioned at some point then that's what I'll do. I've finally placed an order with cleanyourcar.co.uk as they seemed to stock most things, had good prices, and their delivery charge wasn't bad either. Everyone...thanks for your help!
18. In answer to 'clarkie34', I only just bought my LMGT4 wheels off another member and I did it on the basis that I would sell my current 18" wheels that came as standard on my GT4 (to drastically minimise the upgrade cost). I really can't afford to keep the originals and maintain 2 sets of wheels/tyres and certainly don't have any room to store a set (I have a small house with no garage!). Thanks for all your opinions and advice. I've just consolidated all the info and have the following list: To Buy 1) Bilberry Wheel Cleaner (5L) : £25.50 (eBay inc. delivery) 2) Poorboys Wheel Sealant : £15.10 (eBay inc. delivery) 3) Meguiars NXT All Metal Polish 4) Meguiars Endurance High Gloss Tyre Shine Gel : £7.68 (eBay inc. delivery) AND Meguiars Applicator Pad : £5.39 (eBay inc. delivery) 5) EZ Detail brush : £20.57 (www.nedetailing.co.uk inc. delivery) My god, all this cleaning stuff is adding up to a fair bit but I guess you get what you pay for! What order should I use the above items and how often? I assume I first clean the wheels, then use the metal polish (occasionally?), then the wheel sealant, and then the tyre shine. What would you use to apply the metal polish?...a J-cloth? Lastly, what would you recommend to dry the wheels nicely after washing them? An old tea-towel or is there something else that will do a much better/easier job and last a while? Thanks guys, Mark.
19. I can't believe 2 people have advised not to use my new LMGT4 wheels in the winter...surely if I clean them reguarly during the winter they'll be ok? It seems crazy and expensive to have 2 sets of 19" wheels and tyres, not to mention where the hell I'd store them. OK, so diluted Bilberry to clean, then Autoglym Wheel Sealant to protect them, then Meguiars Endurance High Gloss Tyre Shine Gel Does that sound about right? Is there anything I can use to "polish" them to ensure they continue to shine/sparkle like new? LOL Thanks, Mark.
20. Guys, I've just got hold of a set of LMGT4 wheels and realise that these are somewhat different to normal alloys in that the edge is polished metal (not painted). I want to keep these wheels (and tyres) looking in tip-top condition without using abrasive wheel cleaners, etc so what do you recommend? Is there anything I can buy that I can put/spray on them to make dirt and brake dust come off much easier? What would you use to clean them? Bucket of warm water with fairy liquid? What about more stubborn brake dust marks? Once clean, is there anything I can/should use to give them that extra shine? And lastly, what would you say is best to use for tyre shine? The spray tyre shines I've used from Halfrauds in the past completely lose their effect after a day or two and it gets expensive if you want to keep those tyres looking shiny black! Is there another and better alternative? (that isn't going to keep eating into my money). I went to a car wash place ages ago where they dipped a brush in a bucket and swept it over the tyres...was probably something stupid like vegetable oil! LOL MANY thanks, Mark.
21. They're mine I've made a deal with 'zmanalex' and am buying his 19" LMGT4's (with Falken tyres). He tells me they're in absolute mint condition as they're 3 months old and were a weekend wheel that rarely got used...he obviously has too many wheels! Thanks Alex Can't wait to put 'em on!
22. Thanks guys, really useful info! I've just PMed 'zmanalex' Mark.
23. Does anyone know how to remove the existing 'Nissan' centre wheel badges? I like the idea of buying the Nismo alternatives mentioned at the top of this thread but first need to make sure the existing ones can easily be taken off without a problem! Thanks, Mark.
24. All, I have a Kuro Black GT4 and I've always thought the 18" wheels look small (and the tyre looks quite thick). I love the look of the LMGT4 wheels and assume they would fit without any modifications required...? I've searched this forum but cannot find the fitment details for LMGT4 wheels. Can anyone tell me this...width front/back, PCD, offset, etc, etc...? What fitment would the front/back tyres need to be as well? (so I can work out how much they're gonna cost me in addition!). All the numbers associated with wheel/tyre fitments confuse the hell out of me so sorry if these sound like dumb questions! Lastly, where's the best (cheapest!) place to buy them? MANY thanks, Mark.
25. FYI... Stage 1 of the ICE install will be an Alpine CDA-105Ri head unit (I'm a big fan of the classic Alpine look/interface), steering wheel control interface, Harmon Kardon Drive & Play 2 (much better than the iPod interfaces in head units!), JL Audio VR Components, and lots of dynamat in the doors! All being well that'll be installed done within the next week or two by The Sound Gallery in High Wycombe (recommended by another member on here that did a BIG install). Stage 2 will be a JL Audio sub and an amplifier or two to power it and the components. Will also add the Alpine PXA-H100 Imprint processor and the Alpine Bluetooth Interface (for full phone integration). I'll need to save up a bit for stage 2! Mark.
