  1. I'm still slightly unsure about threadsizes UK to JDM hopefully i can get the chance to check that at the weekend, if anyone coming to the Wales drive has an oem gearknob off a UK model that they have taken off and have lying around and would like to bring it along i'd be glad off the chance to check it. I can't see why they should be different but maybe my car is unique! :teeth:

Mines in the loft somewhere, I will donate it to a good cause if I can find it in the loft in my car bits box

I found my original one if you want it to test it? You could keep it if you want to give me a discount on testing a new one ;) However I think the thread will be the same with all of them

That would be great if i can just borrow it for a minute on Sunday to test on my car, if it fits then hopefully it should mean that all the threads are the same between UK and JDM models.

  2. Very impressive :teeth: can you do one with the gear shift patten on the top with the 350z down the side in the cloudy aluminium finish like the niso shape ones pm me with a price cheers

Spooky , I just sent William a PM about 2 mins ago with that exact spec' ! ;)

Created a gear pattern image now and the laser test went quite well, so this shouldn't be a problem to put on the top of the gearknob.

  3. I know the guys that do custom laser cut computer cases did try laser cutting a picture, which looked ok.

Dunno if the same can be done on a curved surface tho.

Would be pretty cool like on a plaque B)

I have this zed pic that i can easily tweak back to 'normality'

  6. Either steel or Alu would be cool with me

Could you do a more cloudy one rather than polished? Like this

    sm_AluTi_179.jpg

yes that's a similar finish to my first model which was in aluminium, sort of a satinised sheen.

  7. Excellent. Any chances you will start selling these?

    +1 :)

Yes i can, i have an order for one, i'll try to replicate this style in aluminium next and see how good a polish i can get on that, this stainless steel takes much longer to work with so would cost a fair bit. I'll have it with me at Wales on Sunday if you want a closer look :teeth:

  8. Well after making a small error and buying a slightly too hard grade of stainless steel for using on a lathe  and after wearing out a fair number of tools and breaking two tap and die sets (apologies to my dad! ) the stainless steel gearknob was finally finished! A short blast under the Laser and here it is..

  9. You are about to make a few quid me thinks...

+1, hope your bringing some examples to wales

I'll get a few of the keyrings done and bring them along to Wales, if anyone definitely wants one for then can you PM me then i get an idea of numbers to bring, price is £10 each, it has the 350Z on one side and the Z on the other. (can be different if you want) After Wales i'll sort out a for sale ad for post orders.

  10. You could laser the Zed logo onto your hand so you can be a hardcore zed fan. That would look AWSOME!

**Discalimer: Please to not laser things on to your hand.

:scare::lol: Sadly it won't let me fire the laser with the cabinet door open(damn safety nonsense ;) )

  11. That is most definately awesome. I'm guessing you use AutoCad for the Plt files?

Using a little program called traceart to convert from raster to vector, i've tried a few plt producing programs but the laser software seems to like traceart files best (fussy little thing)

  12. whats that ^ on bud ?, looks B)

Its just a scrap bit of metal (think its a bracket for rack mounting pc equipment actually), as its painted the laser burns the paint off nicely which gives quite a good contrast.

  13. What about etching something on my shiney backbox? ;)

Unfortunately the laser has a cabinet around it (laser radiation emissions blah blah safety etc ;) )which is quite small so it i'm quite restricted on what i can fit in there to engrave.

Latest trial, one for the Tommy k fans :teeth:

  14. :dummy:Frickin Z keyrings please!!!

Looking for some decent keyring blanks atm, will let you know if i find anything suitable :)

Wondered if I sent you a ALUMINIUM RICHBROOK TAX DISC HOLDER could you engrave the back of it?

    Jerry :bounce:

    you have PM :teeth:

  15. This is some amazing and great work bud, you gonna offer anything up to anyone ?

Well I'm planning on bringing a few samples with me to the Wales run on Sunday, if anyone has any special requests though then feel free to post here or PM me :)

  16. is that an upside down dog bowl in the last pic

very nice mate...im off to see what i can get lasered

    frikin sharks with laser beams......sorry

 its one of those magnetic trays for holding nuts and bolts when working on the car, stops me losing all the useful bits when i'm dismantling stuff!

/goes to find something to burn sharks into... :teeth:

  17. Excellent, you could have yourself a sneaky little side business there......just don't let the boss catch you

    R

 yeah I'm sure people are wondering why I've started having an interest in the Laser! Maybe i should burn a load in time for the Wales drive out! Anyone for a 350Z torch or Magnetic Zed tray? :teeth:

  18. they look great B)

How does it work, do you have to create an outlined image? I could be very interested in some stuff doing for my company. pm sent

Creating the image file is the most work tbh, its a .plt format and the software controlling the laser is extremely fussy about what file it will work with and what software can of created it! I'll pm more details in a mo. :D

  19. Managed to sneak some time on the Laser Engraver we have at work, I'm working on a new gearknob at the mo which will be getting engraved but until then I've been burning a few other things!:
