  1. Question about the 3i - as it doesn't have the service console - how could i go about copying a VM from another machine? I have found the easiest way to do this is just copy the VM across to the VMFS filesystem, browse to it and then add it.

Also - is it possible to copy OS Install ISOs to storage on the box with 3i?

Also where is the RSS feed - i can't see it anywhere?

    Hey Rob,

The cos is replaced by a new console, something locked down called Busybox. You can see VMFS from there. You can enable SSH on it to access remotely as well as from the console, but you should really have ISOs on a shared filesystem not on the server itself - we are trying, or should I say achieved, to make an ESX server truly stateless.

You can use an ESXi box just like an ESX3 box, but no agents/programs in the COS (cos it's gone, fnar fnar).

As for the RSS feed - if you use FF3 checkout the right hand side of your address bar when at http://www.vmware.com - or check out the bottom right corner ... click away and ye shall find!

    :)

  2. Hey Rob, 3i has no service console, which is the only difference between that and 3.5. In 3i it is replaced by a lighweight VM called busybox, and other "world" processes are moved into vmkernel.

You are right that 3i was made to be preinstalled but there is a downloadable version about to be put on vmware.com, watch out for the announcement.

And we do sell all the add ons for vMotion, HA etc. I think Paul, our new CEO, will be shaking things up as you would expect a new CEO to do with a fresh pair of eyes and up for the fight with M$.

If you RSS our vmware.com site you'll get the notification...

  3. For the computer techies on here... VMware Server has been available for ages to run virtual machines for free... but now we are releasing ESX 3i for free... which is the real bare metal hypervisor... CEO announced it yesterday, and proper announcement including where to get it, will be end of week.

Also, if you want to buy Workstation or Fusion, I can get it for you at a discount rate... if anyone is interested I'll check out the latest rates...

    :tumbleweed:

  4. Thanks dude! You are above the ranks of the great unwashed who say "for f***s sake, couldn't you have gone faster?!" - when they have never done it...

I have had a good few beers with Citreon Saxa owners and Porsche GT3RS owners who go far faster than me but share the same great stories....

GO THERE! and take your other half, as it's the most beautiful place, not far from Cologne (Koln) etc

Or go with your mates and have a right laugh...

  5. aye, we saw a few accidents - thing is, if it's busy with nutters, then the general crazy factor increases and everyone starts racing which means respect for each other and the ring drops which means someone gets hurt.

    I would drive harder if

    (a) there was no-one else on it, esp. the ring taxis and the viper!

    (B) I knew how to drive better, ie. how to handle the skidders

© I knew the car better, ie. I wish it had firmer suspension

    (d) I knew the ring better, ie. is it a left or a right over that hill as I approach at 100mph?

As I'm none of these, I stand by my laps... if I was Jeremy Clarkson in a random Jag I would shag the hell out of it... bit different when it's your own... that's why there's lots of "ring hire" cars - but have you seen the excess? 6K?

    Urgh!

  6. 3 times. The secret is taking it easy, for me. I have a video of my lap here

http://www.vimeo.com/1356019 - click the HD button to turn it off....

I drive like an excited old lady, but I always get my car back home in one piece :-)

My dad commented on me "being undertaken by a mini" - when I pointed out I was *overtaken* by a mini (on the left) and that it isn't a bloody race!

Anyone who hasn't been on the ring and talks about lap times is, well, how shall I say it....

  8. anybody know the guy who owns a kuro coupe with the plate YVES?

I saw him going round the track and he was on the same train back as me.

There was another kuro coupe which was a 56 plate and was giving it great beans, well done that man. I have pictures of your car if you want to step forward.

Pictures will be uploaded as soon as I find that damn USB cable...

  9. Just got back from the Nurburgring - what an awesome trip! Photos on their way.

    Saw another Kuro "YYVES..."

Saw another Kuro which I think finished "KNP" a 56 plate maybe, was doing lots of laps and screeching and howling - great job! I have photos of your corners over Adenau bridge...

I also saw a white Z in the overspill field, I think it was MX08... but the Bitburger and Kolsch destroyed a lot of brain / memory cells...

    Cheers!

    Steve

  10. It's me third time, so prep has involved a service + replace two rear tyres with some fresh Michelin PS2s (400 quid, ouch!).

We stay quite far from the track in Bad Munstereiffel... which means we have an awesome drive through the forests / mountains to get to/from the track - probably the best bit!

I still cack myself when I go through the gates, but just remember to keep to the right to let people past, indicate to let them, because about half of the cars will be faster, and half will be slower. Don't overtake on bends. But the best advice for a noob is this: if you see spectators, slow down, because they are at a point where accidents happen! The more spectators, the more risk, so don't show off otherwise you'll be in the wall and everyone will be laughing at ya!

Watch out for the Viper and the White M5 Ring Taxis - get out of the way of them they are fooking awesome. If you are lucky, you'll be behind one for a bit and see them drift round corners whilst talking to all the passengers - who all look green with motion sickness!

Also, you'll be surprised by the amount of northern monkeys like me giving it "ey oop" and "fookin ell".

  11. i am @ 36K miles and it's still pretty good... have to hold hand up and say I was complaining about it the other day... then sheepishly noticed that the little light for aircon wasn't on... i keep A/C on all the time, btw.
