I found that flattening a 2" long by 3/4" diameter piece of soft rubber tube and sticking it between the centre of the dash and the windscreen has worked wonders.

Only problem now is that it makes the rattle from the circular door vents more noticeable

No problems with oil consumption here on MY07 after 5000 miles. A couple of 1/2 litre top-ups in the first couple of thousand miles and then nothing. I wouldn't worry about the red line (7500 on the MY07 btw) as you are past max power and torque well before then anyway. Don't forget this isn't a low torque S2000 or other 2 litre fizz bomb but a real V6

It'll go to a loser (Hamilton or Robinson) 'cos we Brits like a plucky loser.

True, but the rattling from the poor fit and finish will drive you mad in the end! Not quite colour changing, but the hotel I stayed in recently in Singapore had electro-chromatic (?) coated glass that goes from clear to tinted to frosted at the touch of a switch. Now how about that on a car? Limo tint to clear at the touch of a switch. Just don't hit the frosted button on the windscreen
