    Battery size

Biggest one you can fit in is an 068 size, but you must check the dimensions as each maker varies and some 068 are too long. I've just moved up to a Bosch S4 026 from EuroCarParts £62.34 Nov 2013. It's 70Ah and 630CCA. 254mm x 173mm at the base. 218mm to top of the posts. It will fit a UK/EU battery tray = 261mm x 178mm inside the lipped edge. If you have a JDM battery tray with the two blocks getting in the way, either swap it for a salvaged UK version as they don't have these 2 stupid blocks (about £20 off ebay) or chop the blocks out of it. I used terminal reducer caps £12 on top of my battery posts, needed to be hand-drilled to secure into the large UK terminal posts of the battery. These caps are extremely hard to find nowerdays. They step the battery posts down to the thinner Jap size. But they raise the height 10mm on top of the battery terminals. With the Bosch S4 026 it is a nice fit and the black plastic cover lid will still fit over the whole lot without too much hassle. Whatever battery make you chose for this method, 222mm to the top of the posts is the highest you can safely go, (if you then allow +10mm for caps on top = 232mm in total) or else it'll foul the black cover lid and also the bonnet won't like it! Bin those 330CCA thin JDM batteries! They won't crank during very cold spells. Had a MotorQuip Powercharge Premium ref VBZ48 BBMS no.154 430CCA 45Ah. Got rid. Poor winter starts. Both of those suggestions by tanya are too weedy. You need to be going as a minimum 550 CCA SAE and 52Ah or more and those figure came from Nissan American TSBs. I've used a FISCH 068 550CCA SAE 70Ah for the past 4 years, and now onto the Bosch 630CCA 70Ah which is even better starting. But these were UK batteries with reducer caps UK-to-Jap size. See if your local motor factors can get them. They sit over the round terminal posts.
  2. I use a FISCH F068 with 550CCA and 70Ah from these guys http://www.countybatteryservices.co.uk/delivery Also fitted thinner terminal post adapters over the battery posts, but ask the company if they can build a battery for you with the JDM sizes instead. The Nissan USA literature states 550CCA as standard. I once had one of those 330CCA thin batteries fitted and that was a big mistake during winter months. Go big!
  3. If you pull that switch out and turn it 180 degrees, then you can actually see the light comes on... unless it's also foggy inside the car too ;-)
  4. Don't forget with having an import, that the battery terminals will not be the same size as UK/EU batteries. They have thinner posts. I had to fit post reducers over the battery terminals to step down to fit it to the Jap +ve & -ve clamps. You could change the leads but it is a bit of a faff with the +ve. Watch out for the CCA rating on the replacement battery, as some of the EU batteries are narrower to fit the zed's battery box and terminal posts, and therfore can have a lower CCA than the one you are getting rid of - you'll have a job starting in winter! I use a FISCH F068 with 550CCA and 70Ah from these guys http://www.countybatteryservices.co.uk/delivery and you may be able to get JDM thinner terminal posts fitted when they build it if you ask them. Back to the ECU: I've not had any warning lights ever, but this auto electrics place in Derby did manage to kill off my JDM ECU when they were fitting the security devices, and it wouldn't start back up, though they sent the ECU away somewhere and fixed the problem after a week (a couple of years back): http://www.mobilesolutions.uk.com/services They might give you their contact, whoever the other company was.
  5. P1 time... Sunwin Derby are now run by Bristol Street Motors, and with that comes the Gateshead "bukitin" call centre on 08433 080751. Over the backend of last week the Derby branch phonelines were severed by workmen, resulting in zero calls back. I have been given no less than three prices from Bristol Street Motors for a P1: £149 for the Bristol Street Hi-Performance Car rate (subject to any additional manufacturer's requirements on top); £135 £189.95 (less £52.80 if I supply my own oil) as of today 10th Dec 2012 Make of this what you will. If I could only speak with an actual service desk guys in the branch I would be a lot happier. Not like the old days of Co-op Sunwin. I don't like having my calls pushed up to Gateshead when I'm trying to contact the Derby branch. The first "Bukitin" call centre guy didn't even know what a 350z was "Our car service receptionists have expert knowledge and can offer advice on car servicing and repairs."
