  1. The 350z is group 18E which means that insurance premiums are generally attractive compared to comparable cars (many of which are in group 20). As always, the advice is to shop around. You can obtain a reasonable coverage of the UK insurers by going to http://www.confused.com Noticeable by their absence are Directline, Privilege, Admiral, esure, First Alternative and Tesco. These will usually quote on the 350z (esure and First Alternative sometimes and sometimes don?t) and may be very competitive.
  2. Servicing is divided in 3 main categories, alternated this way, every 9000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first: P1 P2 P1 P3 P1 etc. P1 (not much more than an oil change) cost varies in different parts of the Country NW for example is ~ ?100 supplying your own oil. P2 intermediate service, aim to pay in the NW ~?115 if you supply your own oil P3 Major service, the most expensive of the cycle. Aim to pay ?250/?300 As a rule, always ring all dealers in your area and play them against each other to get the best price!
  3. Opinions on tyres will always differ. Some people who have changed from the standard Bridgestone RE040s seem to have gone for Pirelli P-Zero Rossos. Some say these are very good, others say that their sidewalls are too soft for the car causing strange handling effects. Toyo T1S (the T1R is now available) are well-regarded in the US where they are considered a premium brand. They are available in the standard sizes and can be found at good prices in the UK. I personally have them on my aftermarket wheels and love them, compared to the OEM ones.
  4. Speakers with the Bose system are low impedance types. Straight replacement for other brands of speakers will not work. Speakers for the non-Bose unit can be replaced.
  5. Any non Nissan-approved accessory which then causes a fault, may cause a warranty claim for that fault to be denied. In theory, Nissan would need to show your accessory caused the problem (so a failure of a suspension part for example should still be covered if you have a different air intake fitted, but others may be more of a grey area). This answer is only provided as guidance and does not represent legal advice. Check your service and warranty booklet for specifics and refer to your dealer if unsure.
  6. Prices are generally favourable. Shipping charges can be significant however (and vary quite a bit between different stores for different items). Customs duty needs to be taken into consideration as well as VAT. Not easy to predict how much you get charged, but allow for an extra 25% on top of everything. Look out for group buys on this forum which can save on shipping costs.
  7. There are a few available: Ebay is worth a look Richbrook make an aluminium aerial which can be fitted Inovenda Shorty aluminium aerials will generally affect radio performance negatively. Honda aerials (e.g. from the Civic, CRV and S2000) are black rubber type which are a direct fit (screw-in), are shorter and give reasonable radio performance for most owners.
  8. Courtesy Nissan in Texas USA .. http://courtesyparts.com/ Or CTD in Germany ................. http://ctd-germany.com/ (CTD is a reseller of Courtesy badges). Funkystyling in the UK.
  9. Depends whether you like the look of them. They are slightly lighter than stock wheels which in theory provides ride and performance benefits. But this is probably negligible.
  10. The phone kit has some problems with interference for certain phone models (principally the Nokia 6310i). Nissan have now recognized a fix pioneered by 350zuk.com forum member Peter and will carry this out if you have a problem with your kit. It is generally successful. Some people have found that the phone kit does not work well for them (it won?t respond correctly to voice commands or reception is not acceptable), whilst others are happy. The kit requires you to programme each number you want to dial. It will not use your existing voice commands on your phone. If you do need to use your phone in your car the phone kit may provide a very convenient solution because of the steering wheel controls and because it is already mostly installed.
  11. There are lots of opinions on this subject and it depends on the type of use you?ll make of the car. In general, unless you?re getting a deal on accessories with the car, remember that you can buy any of the dealer accessories later on when you have lived with the car a while. Shop around for the best prices on accessories (you don?t need to buy them from your dealer) including with independents such as Mr.F on the Z Club forum. The majority or owners think that a paint protection film should be fitted to the front of the car (i.e. bumper, wing ends at a minimum and possibly bonnet and mirrors) before you collect from the dealer to avoid chips and dings from stones to which the car seems to be fairly susceptible. Paint protection film is available from Armourfend and Paintshield (among others)
  12. The run-in period is 1200 miles. The owner?s manual contains details of Nissan?s recommendations, although you may get other opinions elsewhere as well about how easy to go on your engine during running in. Personally I've done my run-in period mostly below 4000RPMs with the occasional burst to 5-5500RPM. Seems to have worked fine on my Z.
  13. The z is an easy car to drive normally. It has a heavy feel to all major controls (steering, clutch and gearchange) compared to an average saloon or hatchback. The 350z is a powerful (and torquey) rear-wheel drive car. The rear of the car will step out if you apply to much power (particularly say exiting a tight roundabout in the wet). For most people this will be part of the appeal of the car. It is well-behaved for a rear drive car and includes modern safety systems (traction control and stability programme) for when you want them. There are things which you can get away with in a front or four-wheel drive car which will cause you problems if tried in a rear-drive car. It is always worth considering advanced driver training (particularly when buying your first powerful rear drive car). You?ll almost certainly enjoy the training, enjoy the car more and feel more confident that you can drive it safely. These organisations offer advanced driver training. No recommendations are implied. You may wish to consider asking about whether a session in your car at a private facility is available so that you can explore the limits safely.
  14. The GT pack includes: -Cruise control -Leather, heated seats with partial electric movement -Upgraded Bose stereo with subwoofer. These options are not available separately. Opinions are mixed about the Bose stereo. Some think its a decent-sounding powerful system (compared to most OEM) but that you could easily improve with aftermarket fitments. The base car standard stereo is more upgradeable than the Bose because Bose use low impedance speakers.
  15. Hi all, most of you will know me but I thought I'd start this section off by introducing myself and my car! Name's Valerio and have owned a 350Z since May 2004. I was orginally conviced not to modify it, but after 18 months of ownership it now looks like this: I ave made quite a few mods to my car, and enjoyed doing the mechanical ones myself as much as I could (plenum, CAI, colour coding etc). Others required the help of fellow Z owners (or ex-Z owners) for the bodykit or garages with ramp facilites for the exhaust and hi-flow cats. Anyway enough of this, you can see more pics of my car following the link on my sig... Valerio
