  1. Myself and a colleague from work including partners have arranged a European trip in August, which will start by landing in Rotterdam heading north for 2 days in Amsterdam, 2 days at the Nurburgring , then heading south to Mont Blanc staying for 2 days then up the mountain take a few pics of the glacier and then head south through the tunnel, into Italy, back across the boarder via the Great St Bernard Pass, then off to Paris for 2 days and finally back up to Rotterdam for the boat back to Harwich. If there's any chance or arranging a meet at the Nurburgring for the 24th August 2010 that would be superb. Just a thought?
  2. Thanks Lexx, I have found this out, to my disgust! I have my ARC induction kit waiting application and as such need to source the exhaust. Once done it's down for a re-map. Quite looking forward to it - although with the delayed meet, I'll just have to wait a little longer. Nitrous will be next which will be fitted roughly around April time after the exhaust and air kit
  3. I am more than happy to relay comments back to you, although the meet has been moved to March 21st, so there's a bit of a delay, and I was dead excited to hear and see some potential exhausts for my motor. I guess I have to wait a little longer, although if your NE visit pay's off, let me know in return. I'm looking for BHP gains, without excessive noise/rasp, and of course must look the Bee's Knee's! I have seen some exhausts that top £1000, so if needs be then I will invest, although I'd prefer to pay a lot less. Let me know how you get on.
  4. I am also looking into a new exhaust purchase. I have scheduled to join up on a meet that is occuring in the Midlands area on the 28th Feb. I'd like to have a listen to the various examples and get some idea of price and looks actually fitted. I am like yourself MLC35, the original exhaust has a nice sound, and I also don't want to shout down the road as I accelerate. I have scoured the internet and there are some good looking exhaust's, although I'd also like to gain a few extra bhp at the same time, without sounding to heavy.
  5. The pricing factor of the quote is related to your postcode. I have a 56 plate insured for £16k with 5 years no claims aged 36. This I am paying £820 per annum. To note: my parents owned a Ford Mondeo they moved two streets from one postcode to the next, and their insurance went up nearly £200!! I owned quite some time ago a Ford Focus in London with a TW postcode and this was £450 per annum, after moving to Birmingham it went up to £550. Therefore your status (i.e. Job/employment), age, convictions and claims including your postcode will also govern your insurance quote. For instance if you are in the Media, your insurance is likely to be higher than somebody who's an accountant. Also if you are office based the quotes for an Administrator will be higher than for a middle to high manager. Furthermore, your excess can also help to reduce your quote. To be honest insurance is a con anyway!
  6. I have the 296bhp 56 plate.... With regard to mechanics I have already visited this place http://www.westonperformance.com/ they are very local to me and after checking out their workshop and customer service all seems well. The only problem is that I use the car every day, so when it's in a garage it causes me problems. In fact when the NOS is being applied I will be without the car for 3-4 days! In terms of modifications to take on the NOS - I have asked they budget for everything - including the window switch and various other essential (keep the engine safe) peripherals. Quite looking forward to it....
  7. Super instructions, although I don't really want to mess with 16k of car only for me to drop a screw or a bolt down those large holes in the top of the engine Joking aside, I would prefer to have a qualified mechanic undertake the work, as I don't really have the tools to undertake the work. To be honest I have been thinking further and it would be a good time to update a number of engine components, whilst having the plenum worked on. So I guess this thread could stretch into another subject on the basis of what next for upgrading the internals? I've set aside a budge of £1500 for the NOS. ARC induction is on it's way, Exhaust to review and budget, and then maybe some internals, uprated cam shaft or something?
  8. Sorry for the late post, thanks for your tips. After speaking with WON they were very helpful, I asked for my requirements, two of which are important - Power and Safety, or is it Safety and Power? Either way I don't want to blow the engine, although at the same time I am looking for some considerable increases to blow away the competitition. I am yet to purchase, due to house moving - although I am in the realms of purchasing a nice ARC induction kit courtesy of JDM Performance. So I guess the bug has started. I will keep you posted and thanks for your comments.
  9. New to Plenum Spacers (after huge amounts of reading on Google) I also would like to understand the fitting requirements. If I purchase and wave the spacer at my local garage he's going to laugh. This therefore requires fitting by a specialist?! What indicative costs could I expect for the fitting of a Plenum Spacer?
  10. I was also at Santa Pod during the Jap Show. Great to watch, although was highly tempted to have a run or two, although like you say it's the waiting around that doesn't appeal to me. I believe it's best to attend a RWYB day as they are generally quieter than show type days. I also believe a meet at Santa Pod should be scheduled, a great day out and a laugh at the same time. I personally don't think I will be setting super great times as I am yet to modify, although hoping for some Nos in January of next year. That way I can leave my spare wheel and general car matters in the car without looking too slow! (Unless of course things get competative!)
  11. Well, I've spoken with Wizards of Nos and they have quoted for a fully fitted system, with window switch and progressive contoller, including all setup for £1500. So plans are to install in the new year, as Nov5 and Dec25 are normally expensive periods of the year for me. A great shame that I don't have endless amounts of excess wedge available to really have a good time. If I did force my extra cash into the car I am sure without hesitation my other half would put a "for sale" sign up on the house . Leaving me a very unhappy chappy. Although at least I'd have a super quick car . With regard to the insurance, I think I will also speak with my insurers to see what they say, and tips to mention the Nos is for track days sounds a pretty good idea. I could also say that the equipment is taken out whilst general driving.
  12. I know they are a little on the chav side. Although what other options are there? Name me a great car, with comfort, i.e. Leather, SatNav, cruise etc, that has a turbo and can be reasonably priced? I can't think of anything? The Zed gives me all the above, although no turbo without shelling out fortunes. Maybe I am just greedy and that 297bhp should be enough, and it's not enough! Although a lot of the power is lost due to the weight of the car. A friend of mine is currently dirving a Civic Type R on a 02 plate. His car is 50 stone lighter than mine, and he's keeping up with me! I need to shake him off good and proper!
  13. Hmmm looks like engine modifications/strengthening are also going to be expensive. I think I am going to go for the 75-100hp increase from the Nitrous (with the progressive controller etc) and hope that nothing goes bang from my very heavy right foot. I can't justify spending £10k on the car, I think next time upon purchasing a car I'll get one with a turbo already installed, i.e. Mits or Scooby? Not that the looks are anywhere near a good as the Nissan, neither is the comfort anything to write home about. I guess if I want a reasonably easy upgrade of an engine to source a car already turbo'd. A great shame, although if I ever windfall any large cash amounts in the next 3 years then I'll definetly go for the full modifications. Thanks all for your comments.
  14. Zed'ers, thanks, great information, especially the informative threads posted by Zedrush. I believe that I will go ahead with the modifications, although will now seriously consider increasing the budget to accomodate strengthening the internals. Has anyone on this forum gone through the internal modification route? What sort of costs are involved? I had a quick browse and found some forged pistons at £799, what further modifications are required on top of this to assist with power over 400bhp? I must admit, I will without a shadow of doubt go for the progressive controller and window switch, I really don't want to suffer any engine issues. Has anyone any further comments de-cating the exhaust, as mentioned, I was advised to have a "hand built" solution which would benefit over any aftermarket product? Again thanks for all your comments, very helpful. Cheers
  15. Hi, to all those techy Z owners or mechanics out there. I am a fairly new owner and I have owned my 2006 (300bhp) Zed for about 3 months now. I was massively happy with the power when I purchased it, although now feel that some additional power gains are required. I have already been to a specialist garage who look after serious modifications and I was quoted £10k for a turbo, which I believe included additional engine modifications to take on the turbo. Since a recent visit to the Jap Show at Santa Pod, I was intrigued to see the vast number of cars using Nitrous. My initial thoughts towards Nitrous were cautious, as I understand great care and attention is required for the install and for the setup/maintenance to ensure detonation is avoided. I have reviewed the Wizards of Nos website who have a system which bolts on to manage the flow and power of Nos required, right down to a 10th of a second, which sounds impressive. Using Nitrous I see as a massive cost saving against the turbo, although I still have doubts. What is your opinion of applying Nitrous for street use, with occasional quarter mile runs now and again (not for serious competition). My questions are: Will I kill the car! (important question) Is there a preferred system for the Nissan? Is it wise to install a management system / and which type to avoid detonation? What other engine modifications should I consider to work alongside Nitrous? I have already set my first milestone at getting the air intake and de-cat exhaust sorted. I was recommended to have a custom built de-cat solution at a cost of £450. I was advised that some distributors claim to have de-cat systems, although they are not totally 100% de-cat?? Advice on which systems would be helpful. Budget for modifications is £3,000, which I am sure is plenty, although I would like to change the SatNav screen for a normal monitor, so that I can then install a DVD player, or E-pc, Netbook for some funky nitrous software/engine management display/information data? I would be happy to claw 450bhp with my budget, although I am sure your comments will clarify if this is at all possible. Cheers
