    Hello Neil,

Not sure on the state of the car yet as it won't be delivered for about a week.

Funny enough the first mini both are r56 n14s. The first one was the tensioner that went so needed fully stripping down due to the chain going and broke a oil jet. The second a piston went through the block so got a new engine so as I knew nothing about the engine I stripped that down also.

But once the Z is here regular videos will be on YouTube.

Have you a link to your rebuild.

Yeah, the R56 chain tensioner went through a few updates as contamination would block it's oil feed and loosen the chain.

As far as i can see, there's a few you tube vids of people removing & striping down the 350Z engine and there's also the workshop manual. I know there's also one are two other members who've done but i haven't found their posts yet, but will share if i do.

Anyway, here's a link to my post. There's not much in it as i've just started, but i won't be removing the engine due to garage space, I'm just starting from the top and working my way down, taking pics and documenting every stage,

  2. Hey, I've also just bought a project 2006 350z and started stripping down the engine (engine knock issue). I'm documenting mine in my rebuild post.

What work are you doing to yours? Engine rebuild or body or both?

    Anyway, good luck either way.

I also did a mini cooper s rebuild a few years back. It was the R56 engine, infamous for chain death rattle which I thought was all it needed replacing, but ended up needing a new block! Anyway, it was a cracking motor once I rebuilt it, happy days....

You are correct about engine types.   The HR engine is completely different to the DE and DE rev-up and came out in 2007.   An HR engined car has the bonnet bulge.   AFAIK, to get a car from DE rev-up to HR is impossible.

    HTH :)

    Thanks 🙂

    Hey Coz,

Could you tell me more about this 'rev-up' kit please?

I'm stripping down my 2006 Z which was advertised as a rev-up, which I assumed was some form of special edition, but the HR (high rev engine) was standard.

Does this mean rev-up and HR engines are different and Ill need an super expensive rebuild kit

    Thanks, Neil

Wish I knew how to edit my previous post....

After a bit of Google research I think there were 3 engine types DE, DE rev-up and HR,

So am I right in thinking my 2006 is a DE rev up and that's the super expensive kit I need?

    Hi James,

We have gasket kits available here: https://www.torqen.uk/nissan/350z/engine/gaskets/9039-350z-de-ishino-stone-oem-engine-rebuild-gasket-kit-jfs-00641.html

If I remember correctly, one or two of the gaskets are slightly different to the standard DE so you may need to order those seperately. Nissan do a Rev-up kit but it'll be super expensive compared to the Ishino one.

The thing is that I am looking for a rust free and stock condition one. I know better to wait until I find a good example but why I like this car is current owner have this car for the last 13 years, it’s low mileage an no accident history. Based on the owner said the car doesn’t have any problem on mechanic parts, also exterior and interior parts.

About the price, when I compare with the other de engines on the market (facebook and other websites) this one is attractive for me.

What is the average price of the same car? Near mileage and de engine?

Planning to check this one tomorrow?

'current owner has had car for last 13 years'

I just bought a project one a few weeks back and my wife pointed out it's had 15 owners!

Any idea what type of oil is in the car? Hope you get it sorted anyway.

Thanks. I've no idea of the oil but it's done 150k miles so needs a full refurb so i'll be putting new rings, bearings etc and hopefully have it galloping on all it's horses again 😀

 You’re 60 pages too late for that debate, it’s been in production for a while now mate

    Haha, no way.

I'm new to these cars hence my post. I thought I was being a smart arse.

I'll definitely do a bit more research before posting next time 🙂

  9. With Lotus going all electric and Nissan confirming it will be by 2030 it would be interesting to see what type of engine it will have. Will 400z stand for a normally aspirated 4L V6 or a smaller turbo'd 400bhp engine or even a 400kw electric motor?

  10. Hey everyone. I'm a newbie from Southam and recently bought this 350z as a Winter project to fix the suspected engine knocking.

I've done a few engine rebuilds in the past but I'm really looking forward to this one.

I suppose, first thing's first. I need a workshop manual.

I've seen Haynes manuals in Ebay and was wondering if they're any good or should i just go for the proper Nissan manual?

  11. Hi, I'm Neil, 45 and live near Leamington in the Midlands. I've been a bit fan of Nissan's since working at the Sunderland plant many years ago.

I enjoy working on project cars, especially engine rebuilds. My previous cars have been an xr3i, Pulsar GTIr tuned to 320bhp, R56 Copper S and last year was a focus ST.

I've been after a 350z project car for ages but they never come up.

Anyway, I came across this in eBay, maybe it's one of your cars.

Just wondering what you think of worth now and once it's rebuilt?
