  1. Hi all

Putting this in here as I'm assuming its the brakes but after some expert knowledge as i'm not too clued up on mechanics bar some basics plus i don't have immediate access to ramps and a dry space to work in.

Anyway, for a few weeks I've had a squeaking noise from the rear of the car on start up when i put the car in reverse or forward gear. It comes and goes but today particularly caught my attention as it's louder than normal.

Recent MOT threw up pitted and scored front discs as an advisory but the noise distinctively comes from the rear. Plenty left on the brake pads also.

    • Nearside Front Inner Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
    • Offside Front Inner Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))

Video taken this morning in reverse and 1st gear via the link below:

    Would appreciate your thoughts

    Thanks

    Mike

  2. it was actually £100 due to to the additional electrical work to tighten up the metal but £100 i was happy to spend to get it looking back to normal. Added bonus was the car also flew through the MOT on Friday :).

I'll take a few pics of the panel when we finally get some sunshine down here in gloomy Swansea

  3. got the car back yesterday, dent is gone, paint work is intact (it was all transfer from the other vehicle) he did need to use some sort of electric treatment to tighten up the metal due to how sharp the dent was.

Dent has gone and the door is looking smooooth.

  4. Made some calls, had some estimates and found a local company which was recommended by a few of the larger bodyshops in the area so car booked in for this morning and dropped off.

Guy said it was quite a sharp dent but optimistic it can be repaired. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks for the responses.

  5. Thanks for the advice

Yeah, i'm not going to rush into it, i would obviously like to get the repair complete quickly but for a poor job its not worth it. One response so far, just for dent removal would be £70 but they can't guarantee the scratch would buff out and they wouldn't do the paint work. I've not tried to 'clean' up the scratch yet.

I've also not taken a door card off before, is the panel easily accessible when removed?

  6. indeed, so annoyed as now its the only thing i see when i look at the passenger side and even if i buffed the scratch out, the dent still spoils the panel . I've contacted a bunch of these dent specialists to get some estimates etc, just hoping now for a cost effective solution

  7. Hey all

Annoyingly yesterday i cam back to the car to find some inconsiderate ****er had opened their door into mine. May have been the wind etc but hey ho, i now have an unsightly looking ding smack bang in the middle of the passenger door panel.

Does anyone in South Wales have any recommendations? I've sent away for quotes from chips away and dent-tox based locally. While we are here, does anyone have any experience of getting a dent removed? Fairly straightforward panel to work on / get to? etc

I'm expecting a repair bill of approx. £100. Pics below including one i marked where the scratch is

    Cheers

    Mike

  8. Just checked mine and it goes back to 2009 on an 06 Plate.

There is a disclaimer that it holds records for Cars that had tests carried out in England, Scotland and Wales - potentially a NI owner previously?

Barring that i have no idea. As far as I am aware, my car has never resided in N.I

  9. looks to me that the previous owner has stuffed that loft insulation in the boot to reduce the noise. I don't have it on mine and i've recently stripped the boot to rectify leaking vents and there was no sign of insulation.

Worth removing that stuff and checking for leaks or if it is wet at all with the awful weather we have been having

  10. Hi Alex

    Thanks for confirming, greatly appreciated.

I've actually got a pal who works for one of these companies,  and can get me both for sub 400, the only reason i'm using them really but thanks for letting me know you have them also if it goes tits up

    Thanks again

    Mike
