    Nothing wrong with the auto, as the box is pretty bullet proof, and none of the usual clutch problems. I find Jap imports are usually better cars as there is no salt on roads and the "mot" is much more involved than ours.

    The downside is you sometimes don't get any Jap service history.

    Thanks you for your advice.. It's good to know other people's experiences that's how we all learn.

    I am pretty handy with a spanner... in the past I've done  a few jobs timing belts head gasket. Engine swaps. Etc. To that bit is good.

    I thought Jap imports  were to be avoided. Cos there could be issue with insurance and such... am I wrong?

    Aren't Autos quite a bit slower than manuals? (Genuine question.)

    My advice is to not go for a cheap 350z unless you can work on them confidently by yourself or with friends in the trade. Make sure that you can get a good look under it at the W brace and rear crossmember stays (kidney shaped) to check for rust. I paid £4250 for mine nearly 2 years ago (80000 miles) and it failed its first MOT due to rust 5 months after I bought it (car was sitting low on HSD coilovers so I couldn't get a good look under the car when buying it). Luckily they were all bolt on parts, but still set me back £400. Along with that the rear brakes needed changing (pads, disks and handbrake shoes) which set me back around £250 for the parts, but I changed them myself. My Banana arms need doing too so that's going to be around £250 fitted by myself, I've also done the front and rear drop links at £100. It's not only the big things with the Z too, there are a lot of small niggly bits that need sorting (unless you're not too OCD). All of the parts mentioned were not in my plans at all for the car as I wanted to spend money on the aesthetics rather than mechanics. Sorry for the slight thread hijack, but I wanted to share my personal experience with you so that you don't waste your money on a poor example.

    I just bought mine at the end of last year, just over 100k on it and paid over £4k for mine, and the next service isn't going to be cheap so will be about £5000 in total (excluding tax and insurance) so would say its all about the condition, yes you can get cheaper cars but more than likely need a lot of work, as said previously might be worth saving a bit more getting an example thats not going to need as much spent on it.

    Mileage wasn't a concern for me at all as engine always well maintained, its when its not got full history, not been ran on super unleaded dodgy repairs that would put me off.  But as said its a 15 year old car there can always be issues.

    What vers did u opt for? What was the mileage and what was the condition like

  4. Thank you for the feedback... tbh I know these are expensive cars to run...  i knew that the 3k budget was on the low side ... i guess could go to 5k but that would be the max... I wanted to hold some back in case the car i bought had some issues. But I guess lower the price higher the risk of it being a lemon.

    Ok question wat are ur thoughts on reliability of a manual vs automatic... I would pref manual. But what are ur thought...

  5. Hi All...

    Well I am looking to get a fun car... something to drive on the weekend... so after much looking thinking etc I have settled on trying to buy a 350z... it looks sexy... reading up on them they seem to be a good reliable car that are fun to drive... and fits into my budget of around 3k. I would like to get a stock manual GT version. Not too fussed if it's a coupe or roadster.

    My question is would I get a decent car for that price... I have seen some but the mileage on them tends to be above 100k+. Part of me think that's not too high. but the another bit of thinks I could be inviting trouble. What are your thoughts...

    Also I'd appreciate it if you can give me a heads up of any on sale or coming up for sale in and around London...though tbh if the price is right I would travel further a field.

    The Datsun 240Z was the first Japanese sports car to be commercially successful internationally. It was the demonstration that Japan could build a fast, reliable and enjoyable car to drive and that Japan had become serious competition for European and American vehicles.

    This car is an UK original, RHD original Datsun 240z. Its 1 of about 125 in the UK with about 50% of them being declared SORN.

    The car was originally silver (see pictures for original condition) and was in need of restoration. I bought the car from a gentleman in the 240z club (Z Club) and continued to drive the car for 6-8 weeks, before deciding to take it off the road and complete a shell up restoration. This was a much longer process than original anticipated, taking a little over 3 years and sadly during that time circumstances changed quite drastically, hence the car being up for sale.

    The restoration is completely documented with over 250 photos. The car has been completely stripped down, media blasted to reveal ALL the rust and everything was repaired, rewired, everything.

    The car itself:-

     * 2.4 Straight 6 Petrol Engine 150bhp
     * 5 Speed Manual Transmission from a 280ZX
     * Brand new Mishimoto radiator
     * All new window rubbers
     * All new rubbers and bushings
     * Hilux brakes
     * Flared arches
     * 17" black Rota wheels to fill the arches with brand new tyres
     * New black fender mirrors
     * New black bumpers
     * New black front spoiler
     * Front strut brace
     * Rear strut brace
     * Clear front indicators
     * Clear side indicators
     * New front windscreen
     * Brand new headlamps

    The exterior is painted to a very high quality in Nissan GTR red!

    Unfortunately due to the change in circumstances the car cannot be completed, however it is roadlegal and has a valid/current MOT.

    The bad points:-

     * the interior needs some work to complete the restoration (the seats need a refurb and the dash has a missing component)
     * the doorcards need attention
     * the front suspension has not settled to the correct height after being rebuilt (it sits high at the front)

    I am sure I have forgotten stuff on the car, there was no expense spared on this restoration! The car is currently in storage in Horsham and the price is £25,000

    Yea i was lucky as i had a 200sx with blown turbo that i swapped with the supra. It was a n/a auto with s broken 2nd gear so the autobox only had 1st 3rd and 4th lol. It didnt like the welded diff. Haha.  My intentions was to go back to a 200sx but this zed came up which I decided to go for.   Love the car already but im not liking all the faults im finding nor the dash lights that i still need to find out.   Abs, EML, airbag, trac, and another i cant remember. I believe 3 of the lights are all on because it a drift motor so welded diff etc.  The wml possibly because its straight through single exit exhaust (no lambda spacers) and airbag light because of passanger seat

    I m glad u liking the car... i guess the question is would u go back to the SX or the supper.

    Btw i guess the lights are possibly due to welded diff... i

    After 6 months of Z ownership I thought I should say hello to all of you.  With the Sun shining I thought I'd bunk off work, give her a good polishing and then head off down the road, window down listening to the Arc, happy days.  Hope to catch up with some of you at the local meet.

    Hey man.  Honestly........the supra being auto.    I cannot stand autospastic boxes.  With the prices on manual conversions going up and ppl also adding supra tax on parts i was never going to b able to afford converting to manual so forced me to sell the supra. I wasnt even considering a 350z untill it came up for swaps

    I am now in the same bout as u were. Supra's were one of the cars I was thinking of moving to form s13sx. But all the ones in my price range were  autos... which is why the 350 look more appleing. You happy u pulled the trigger??

  11. Hi all...

    NEW to the forum im looking to making the move to the  Z nation so to speak. In my past life I have owned several 200SX's.  But now looking for something  different.  I've looked at at others e.g rx8, Celica etc  but keep coming back to Nissan. So here I am looking to understanding the 350z world before taking the plunge...

    So would welcome any buying advice or just advice general 350 advice.
