    £297 x 36 = £10,692, plus deposit is £11,192 you are spending.

    £10,992 loss in depreciation.

Add them up and thats £21k your loosing over 3 years.  Sure some of that is depreciation, which most cars will have, albeit at varying rates. The rest is interest on the loan etc, but either way, its still £20k over 3 years.

As I said, each to their own, if your happy with that then fair enough, but id be either looking at a cheaper way of getting the cash, or buying something which wouldnt depreciate as much etc.

Thanks for the replies. Ah, I see what you’re doing now. Yes, agreed, however; I didn’t think about it that way. Even the used car at a few years old will still depreciate at an alarming rate so (I worked out more so as I was given such a large discount on the new one it absorbed most of the depreciation) In this case I won’t look at the loss that way but I did ask the question to what people think and their views on the deal.

    Thanks, appreciate the replies.

Everyone is different, but from my perspective, your numbers are saying you will be loosing £20,392 over 3 years?

Doesnt sound very appealing to me.

How do you make that out? I’ll have paid £297 x 36 = 10,692 Plus my deposit so a total of 11,192.

Then a ballloon of 13,800 bringing the total paid to £24,992. I’ll then own a car worth circa £14k and only a few years old. If I subtract that 14k from the 24,992 I’d have lost £10,992. And like everything, it will continue to depreciate, like most other cars

  3. Hey

so I recently sold my 2008 350z HR a few months back as it was a pile of ......

gearbox crunches and slipping clutch two weeks after buying and showing zmanalex. Anyway, so ... onto the 370z and now very warey of buying used again.

I am at a cross roads and looking for help. I dont have any debt (minus mortgage) and have a fair bit of disposable of around £1,600 a month to play with. So I thought ... I’ll save or get a loan and buy a 370z used but from a dealership and ensure I get a proper warranty etc for peace of mind ....BUT they’re around the £20k mark and a couple years old.

Here is the twist, a NEW one is £29,200k however Nissan are throwing £4K deposit at me and the dealer has knocked of a further £2k so this makes it a £23k car ... only a touch more than used and also get all of the new car leave of mind, tax and warranties. This is for the base model which now comes with rev match, exedy clutch for 2018. The monthlies are coming in at £297 with £500 deposit from myself and over 3 years. 3.49% APR and residual value of £13,800 odds.

Anyones thought? I really want it but panicking about going back into “debt” as such but it does look like a great deal.

Ps. I also have 8 months over emergency savings in the bank to cover mortgage and car payment. I’ve always tried to pay cash for everything so this is my main barrier.

  4. So, over a grand down in a couple of weeks of owenership and now the car is juddering when taking off. Every in 2nd it 3rd at low rpm (1500-2k) it bounces when lightly pressing the accelerator. I’ve never had that before. Almost feels like I’m killing the clutch when taking off despite being carful. Just feels really rough.

Many guy says flywheel and it clutch is slipping but fine under heavy load when giving it WOT. Hill starts also replicate the symptom.

Mum seriously thinking about selling the car. Costing so much cash and potentially much more.

Possibly drive belts if it's a bit of a squeal? My belts were slightly slack, even though they were nearly new when I got the car, so tightened them slightly and the squeal went away!

Check the belts for cracks or signs of wear, if you have no record of the belts being changed, it might be worth considering and get into contact with one of the traders on here!

    Thanks.

My latest service noted the ancillary drive belt was slightly discoloured but fine other than that. Don’t think there are other belts?

  6. So, I’ve noticed a very faint squeak from the engine area but only when cold and ticking over. Doesn’t get louder with increasing RPM.

Driven it for 10 minutes to get it hot and the squeak is now gone.

Many ideas what it might be?

  7. So, I openly admit I’m not overly clued up and not very hands on (I’m a software developer, that’s a hardware job)

Anyway, I have my replacement wing mirror unit, all ready to go and my Tesco socket set, life’s good so far and I’m feeling confident. I proceed to remove the black door trim for the mirror controls first. 4 attempts later, and a totally scratched bit of plastic, it’s finally off. Next, I attempt to undo the remaining bolts and discover the bolts are about 100ft inside the door and need a socket extension (which I had to go buy). I get them out and pull off the door trim from the bottom. All pop out apart from one which snapped off (there’s always one). So I’m like “I can deal with that”. The door trim now on the ground, I can undo the 3 bolts holding on the mirror. Out they come and swap in for the new mirror. The new mirror now won’t sit flush like the old one did. A f*****g hour later I find that it’s the bolts inside the mirror that were sitting right and fixed them after comparing. Door trim back on and snapped another pop clip but back on and all bolts back in. Then then door sounds like @*!# when I close it, I see another bolt on the car mat I had missed. So window control panel back off, this time it wasn’t so easy and ended up snapping the b*****d in half ... FML.

Got the bolt back in but this time wouldn’t find thread, just turning. Whole door trim back off but this time the top bolt wouldn’t come out. Yanked it out with pliers (as I’m cross now). Fixed the alignment and door trim back on (3 hours in) and dark now, shivering and freezing with a manky torch between my teeth. Keys in the ignortion and go to adjust my electric mirror ... nothing! .... NOTHING! Door handle trim off again (snapped this time now as well as I’d about turned Into the hulk with rage ). Taken about 30 minutes to get the stupid wire connector undone. And have a look about. Redone it all and door trim back on. Mirror working but now door sounding like @*!# when closing.

I’ve given up. Lessons learned .... pay a garage

funny thing is, I could do the whole thing now in about 20 minutes.

now need some new door trims .... ZMANALEX .... lol.

Sounds like it’s gonna be a good day. Shame the car isn’t operational just now and Falkirk is a bit of a distance to go

I'm good with that. Say the Saturday afternoon or Sunday?

For Sunday 26th (to try and fit others in): I’m not all sure who’s going? I suggested the Kelpies at Falkirk, however; I don’t think that’s a good fit from what I’m feeling. The Silverburn Centre is even further out.

For those of us still wanting to go, can we all reply with our locations again please and I’ll try to find something that’s a fair distance?

Treated well from new using good fuel and serviced as recommended, how many miles would you say was about right for the first engine tear down and refresh? I currently have an excellent early version with 83,000 miles with no issues but have been offered another car with 130,000 with fsh for just £2,800. It's never had any engine work and needs new discs and pads all round but it's the motor i was thinking about with regard to it's mileage. Thanks.

I believe that Nissan engineers were instructed to build this motor to last 200,000 miles. I wouldn’t worry about millages with these cars. It of course depends on several factors, including how it was driven and has it been properly maintained and oiled.

So I can change this thing without the clutch etc needing done and how much is that roughly?? lol (feel the panic in my typing.. love discovering new things:dry::lol:)

Lol I wouldn’t worry about it (I’m not, and I love to worry).

Drive it and if it goes then do it. I don’t think the clutch has to come out though

  11. Nice. How about we do that then? Following weekend and meet at the Nando’s there? Assuming there’s a place to park up?

Everyone else who was originally going good with that? This way, potentially get more people attending.

A great place it could go would be just as you pull out of the car park and head onto the Ring especially if it happened to the Zed in front of me - which it did to Andy

However after we pushed him off the road and completed our laps we topped up his fluid and he managed to drive it all the way back to the south coast including getting on and off the train for the chunnel

and the repair wasn't that bad.

Additionally Andy now holds the record for the least number of gear changes for a trip between the  Ring and Bournemouth

Things happen worrying won't stop them do try and have fun

@leonk  Tsk Tsk - always check the oil

Made me laugh about the gear changes lol.

As all have said in the numerous replies, don't worry about 'little' things that come with a reasonably high performance car; servicing, tyres brakes... a constant thing.  I've spent (due to my annual mileage) around £22K over 5 years running my HR and then (including the recent W brace and end bracket) a further £3K in repairs, replacements over those 5 years.  I also now worry about the oil gallery gaskets, tbh I only found out about it a year or so ago I think, having done lots of research but that one eluded me it seems! As long as your sitting at 60mph,6th gear, 60psi approx...starts from cold 120ish your all good and I just need to keep an eye on it as I don't have the cash to fork out for it just now (some say 6-8 hours to do it some say 4...meh).

My clutch is also fine over 100K miles and its been through 5 years of drag racing (once a year, numerous times, but I kept the launchs neat not just dumping the thing). So I have that too where you would do the flywheel... so two big expensive things that could be looming! Although I've heard someone on here at 150K on the original clutch! Can't mind who it was.

Oh and speaking of new things... what the heck is the deal with the concentric slave thing??? I've not heard that one before! (see always picking stuff up from forum and I've been on it for years lol)

Enjoy it and just keep it maintained, if something happens just deal with it, its always gonna be better than financing or purchasing a new thing. Thats how I look at it... £800 odds repair to keep it going for ages or years of finance again lol (I'll do that when I'm considering the Q60 redsport... if I don't hate the steering and noise too much)

Thanks fella. Yeh the concentric slave on the clutch apparently can go at any point. ZMANALEX confirmed this too when we met and I picked up some stuff. There is no warning, the clutch pedal just goes straight to the floor. A recovery job. They’re plastic in stock form, so only a matter of time. But when mine goes I might as well get the clutch and fly done.

enjoying it so far. I still laugh at everyone that races up behind me, usually 17 year old lads in their 1.2 eco flex Corsa with their girlfriend (probably sister) in the car:lol:

Aye I'm up for a meet aswell. Had a front end smash at driftland on Tuesday but should have it fixed by next weekend. If someone would be kind enough to pm me when it's arranged as I'm not on here much that would be awesome :) remember the old nandos meets? They were epic!

Cool. Nando’s sounds good too, which one was that? I’m happy to meet there if everyone else is? Let’s get something sorted and stick with this coming Sunday?

  15. Should have went the HR route :stir:

I've had my DE Z for 2 months now and so far it's had every problem on the list happen to it. I tend to just turn the stereo up now so I can't hear any problems but even that isn't very loud now :D .

  16. These replies have totally put my mind at ease. I’ll stop thinking “what if” and start enjoying my car.

My previous car was an e89 Z4 and was fantastic but the fuel pump was on its way out, dealership warranty covered. So, this is my first buy not from a dealership and not protected with a fancy warranty. So, was feeling a little nervous but enjoy learning more about the car.

  17. Thanks for the replies. I’ve spent £1,000 so far in a week of ownership

    service £360 (incl spark plugs)

    rear tyres: 260

    rear bearing 355

i know it needs all round brake rotors too, but I’m doing those myself.

Yeh, not expecting it to be perfect but just worry over the big things happening. Maybe it will fade the more time I spend with the car.

  18. So, I’m the new owner of a 2008 HR with 56k miles. All history up to date and nothing to suggest looking problems. I just worry I’m going to have the concentric slave cylinder problem, is oil galley gasket problem, or transmission problems and I’m going to end up forking our loads of cash and being depressed lol.

Why cant I just enjoy the car? I do nothing but imagine the worst and read all of these horror stories.

Its making me think “should I just cut my losses and sell it now before it starts?”

I know the HR unit is prone to this dreaded oil leak or concentric slave issue.

I’ve also heard people say these things are built like tanks, why do I focus on the negative?

  19. So, there is slight play on the rear passenger wheel. I was told the bearing is out.

Two garages (local guys) said it’s a huge job as the suspension needs to come out, then the whole rear alignment needs to be done. I was told 4 hours labour and a total cost of £400.

I spoken to ZMANALEX (who strikes me as an extremely knowledgeable chap) who shown a much simpler procedure of disconnecting the drive shaft to get to the hub fixing and then remove it this way, no off with the suspension or any realignments.

Where the heck did they get such a ludicrous figure?

it sounds straight forward but would prefer pics or video. Anyone suggest one?
